  • This paper propose a new design of fuzzy neural networks based on hard partition to generate the rules of the networks. For this we use hard c-means (HCM) clustering algorithm. The premise part of the rules of the proposed networks is realized with the aid of the hard partition of input space generated by HCM clustering algorithm. The consequence part of the rule is represented by polynomial functions. And the coefficients of the polynomial functions are learned by BP algorithm. The number of the hard partition of input space equals the number of clusters and the individual partitioned spaces indicate the rules of the networks. Due to these characteristics, we may alleviate the problem of the curse of dimensionality. The proposed networks are evaluated with the use of numerical experimentation.

  • A new design methology is proposed to identify the structure and parameters of fuzzy model using PNN and a fuzzy inference method. The PNN is the extended structure of the GMDH(Group Method of Data Handling), and uses several types of polynomials such as linear, quadratic and cubic besides the biquadratic polynomial used in the GMDH. The FPNN(Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks) algorithm uses PNN(Polynomial Neural networks) structure and a fuzzy inference method. In the fuzzy inference method, the simplified and regression polynomial inference methods are used. Here a regression polynomial inference is based on consequence of fuzzy rules with a polynomial equations such as linear, quadratic and cubic equation. Each node of the FPNN is defined as fuzzy rules and its structure is a kind of neuro-fuzzy architecture. In this paper, we will consider a model that combines the advantage of both FPNN and PNN. Also we use the training and testing data set to obtain a balance between the approximation and generalization of process model. Several numerical examples are used to evaluate the performance of the our proposed model.

  • In this study, we introduce the adaptive Polynomial Neuro-Fuzzy Networks(PNFN) architecture generated from the fusion of fuzzy inference system and PNN algorithm. The PNFN dwells on the ideas of fuzzy rule-based computing and neural networks. Fuzzy inference system is applied in the 1st layer of PNFN and PNN algorithm is employed in the 2nd layer or higher. From these the multilayer structure of the PNFN is constructed. In order words, in the Fuzzy Inference System(FIS) used in the nodes of the 1st layer of PNFN, either the simplified or regression polynomial inference method is utilized. And as the premise part of the rules, both triangular and Gaussian like membership function are studied. In the 2nd layer or higher, PNN based on GMDH and regression polynomial is generated in a dynamic way, unlike in the case of the popular multilayer perceptron structure. That is, the PNN is an analytic technique for identifying nonlinear relationships between system's inputs and outputs and is a flexible network structure constructed through the successive generation of layers from nodes represented in partial descriptions of I/O relatio of data. The experiment part of the study involves representative time series such as Box-Jenkins gas furnace data used across various neurofuzzy systems and a comparative analysis is included as well.

  • In this study, we introduce a new design methodology of a granular-oriented self-organizing polynomial neural networks (GoSOPNNs) that is based on multi-layer perceptron with Context-based Polynomial Neurons (CPNs) or Polynomial Neurons (PNs). In contrast to the typical architectures encountered in polynomial neural networks (PNN), our main objective is to develop a methodological design strategy of GoSOPNNs as follows : (a) The 1st layer of the proposed network consists of Context-based Polynomial Neuron (CPN). In here, CPN is fully reflective of the structure encountered in numeric data which are granulated with the aid of Context-based Fuzzy C-Means (C-FCM) clustering method. The context-based clustering supporting the design of information granules is completed in the space of the input data while the build of the clusters is guided by a collection of some predefined fuzzy sets (so-called contexts) defined in the output space. (b) The proposed design procedure being applied at each layer of GoSOPNN leads to the selection of preferred nodes of the network (CPNs or PNs) whose local characteristics (such as the number of contexts, the number of clusters, a collection of the specific subset of input variables, and the order of the polynomial) can be easily adjusted. These options contribute to the flexibility as well as simplicity and compactness of the resulting architecture of the network. For the evaluation of performance of the proposed GoSOPNN network, we describe a detailed characteristic of the proposed model using a well-known learning machine data(Automobile Miles Per Gallon Data, Boston Housing Data, Medical Image System Data).

  • In this paper, we propose the Self-Organizing Networks(SON) based on competitive Fuzzy Polynomial Neuron(FPN) for the optimal design of nonlinear process system. The SON architectures consist of layers with activation nodes based on fuzzy inference rules. Here each activation node is presented as FPN which includes either the simplified or regression Polynomial fuzzy inference rules. The proposed SON is a network resulting from the fusion of the Polynomial Neural Networks(PNN) and a fuzzy inference system. The conclusion part of the rules, especially the regression polynomial uses several types of high-order polynomials such as liner, quadratic and modified quadratic. As the premise part of the rules, both triangular and Gaussian-like membership functions are studied. Chaotic time series data used to evaluate the performance of our proposed model.

  • The study is concerned with an approach to the design of a new category of fuzzy neural networks. The proposed Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks(FPNN) with hybrid multi-layer inference architecture is based on fuzzy neural networks(FNN) and polynomial neural networks(PNN) for model identification of complex and nonlinear systems. The one and the other are considered as premise and consequence part of FPNN respectively. We introduce two kinds of FPNN architectures, namely the generic and advanced types depending on the connection points (nodes) of the layer of FNN. Owing to the specific features of two combined architectures, it is possible to consider the nonlinear characteristics of process and to get output performance with superb predictive ability. The availability and feasibility of the FPNN is discussed and illustrated with the aid of two representative numerical examples. The results show that the proposed FPNN can produce the model with higher accuracy and predictive ability than any other method presented previously.

  • In this paper, we introduce a new topology of Radial Basis Function-based Polynomial Neural Networks (RPNN) that is based on a genetically optimized multi-layer perceptron with Radial Polynomial Neurons (RPNs). This study offers a comprehensive design methodology involving mechanisms of optimization algorithms, especially Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) clustering method and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithms. In contrast to the typical architectures encountered in Polynomial Neural Networks (PNNs), our main objective is to develop a design strategy of RPNNs as follows : (a) The architecture of the proposed network consists of Radial Polynomial Neurons (RPNs). In here, the RPN is fully reflective of the structure encountered in numeric data which are granulated with the aid of Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) clustering method. The RPN dwells on the concepts of a collection of radial basis function and the function-based nonlinear (polynomial) processing. (b) The PSO-based design procedure being applied at each layer of RPNN leads to the selection of preferred nodes of the network (RPNs) whose local characteristics (such as the number of input variables, a collection of the specific subset of input variables, the order of the polynomial, and the number of clusters as well as a fuzzification coefficient in the FCM clustering) can be easily adjusted. The performance of the RPNN is quantified through the experimentation where we use a number of modeling benchmarks - NOx emission process data of gas turbine power plant and learning machine data(Automobile Miles Per Gallon Data) already experimented with in fuzzy or neurofuzzy modeling. A comparative analysis reveals that the proposed RPNN exhibits higher accuracy and superb predictive capability in comparison to some previous models available in the literature.

  • In the past couple of years, there has been increasing interest in the fusion of neural networks and fuzzy logic. Most of the existing fused models have been proposed to implement different types of fuzzy reasoning mechanisms and inevitably they suffer from the dimensionality problem when dealing with complex real-world problem. To overcome the problem, we propose the self-organizing networks with activation nodes based on fuzzy inference and polynomial function. The proposed model consists of two parts, one is fuzzy nodes which each node is operated as a small fuzzy system with fuzzy implication rules, and its fuzzy system operates with Gaussian or triangular MF in Premise part and constant or regression polynomials in consequence part. the other is polynomial nodes which several types of high-order polynomials such as linear, quadratic, and cubic form are used and are connected as various kinds of multi-variable inputs. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, time series data for gas furnace process has been applied.
