Design of a Low-Vibration Micro-Stepping Controller for Pan-Tilt Camera (팬.틸트 카메라의 저 진동 마이크로스텝핑 제어기 설계)

  • Speed, accuracy and smoothness are the important properties of pan-tilt camera. In the case of a high ratio zoom lens system, low vibration characteristic is a crucial point in driving pan-tilt mechanism. In this paper, a novel micro-stepping controller with a function of reducing vibration was designed using field programmable gate arrays (FPGA) technology for high zoom ratio pan-tilt camera. The proposed variable reference current (VRC) control scheme reduces vibration decently and optimizing coil current in order to prevent the step motor from occurring missing steps. By employing VRC control scheme, the vibration in low speed could be significantly minimized. The proposed controller can also make very high speed of 378kpps micro-step driving, and increase maximum acceleration in motion profiles.

  • The running-in behaviour of the metal carbon coating (WC/C) was evaluated with regard to its applicability as wear-resistant coating for key components in engines. Reciprocating wear tests under lubricated condition employing an oscillating friction wear tester were performed to investigate the tribological behaviors of the coatings in ambient environment. Confocal microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were used to observe worn surfaces and the wear scars on the steel balls. Elemental composition of the coating and worn surfaces were characterized using Auger electron spectroscopy. The friction behavior of WC/C coating was comparable to common carbon-based coatings. Thin tribofilm was formed on the worn surface of the steel ball due to material transfer and tribochemical reaction whereas there was no evidence of tribofilm generation on the coating surface. indicating the chemical innertness of WC/C coating.

  • Cognitive radio (CR) technology is to maximize the spectrum utilization by allocating the unused spectrums to the unlicensed users. This technology enables the sharing of channels among secondary (unlicensed) and primary (licensed) users on a non-interference basis after sensing the vacant channel and as a result, it is possible to harness wireless frequency more efficiently. To enhance the accuracy of sensing, RDSS was suggested. It is a fusion mechanism based on the reputation of sensing nodes and WSPRT (weighted sequential probability ratio test). However, in RDSS, the execution number of WSPRT could increase according to the order of inputted sensing values, and the fast defense against the forged values is difficult. In this paper, we propose a transaction signing-based authentication scheme for secure distributed spectrum sensing to response the forged values. The validity of proposed scheme is provided by BAN logic.

  • Tenecin fragments are antimicrobial and antifungal peptide from Tenebrio molitor with highly positive charged amino acid residues. To elucidate their membrane selectivity and molecular mechanism, various forms of tenecin fragments were synthesized, and their interaction with acidic phospholipid, Gram (+), fungal and human erythrocyte membrane were investigated by ANTS/DPX leakage, membrane binding and fusion assay. ESCRT, autophagy, and frontotemporal dementia

  • Many age-dependent neurodegenerative diseases are associated with the accumulation of abnormally folded proteins within neurons. One of the major proteolytic pathways in the cell is the autophagy pathway, which targets cytoplasmic contents and organelles to the lysosomes for bulk degradation under various physiological and stressful conditions. Although the importance of autophagy in cellular physiology is well appreciated, its precise roles in neurodegeneration remain largely unclear. Recent studies indicate that components of the endosomal sorting complex required for transport (ESCRT) are important in the autophagy pathway. Reduced activity of some ESCRT subunits leads to the accumulation of autophagosomes and failure to clear intracellular protein aggregates. Interestingly, rare mutations in CHMP2B, an ESCRT-III subunit, are associated with frontotemporal dementia linked to chromosome 3 (FTD3). Mutant CHMP2B proteins seem to disrupt the fusion of autophagosomes and lysosomes in cell culture models. These findings suggest a potential mechanism for the pathogenesis of FTD3 and possibly other neurodegenerative diseases as well.

  • In this paper, we propsoe a new method of th ecommunication system for cooperative behaviors and works in collective autonomous mobile robots. A communication function among the collective robots is essential to intelligent cooperative works. In genral, global communication is effective for small number of robots. However when the number of robot goes on increasing, this becomes difficult to be realized because of limited communication capacity and increasing amount of information to handle. And also the problems such as communciation interfeence and improper message transmission occur. So we propose local communication system based on infrared sensor to realize the cooperative behavior among robots as the solution of above problem. It is possible to prevent overflow of information and exchange of complex information by fusion sign board model which transmits the information to unspecified robots and message passing model which communicate a specific robot. And we formularize optimal communication range by analysis of information propagation mechanism from the proposed comunication system. At last we verify the effectiveness of the proposed communication system from example of cooperative works.

The coordinated regulation of mitochondrial structure and function by Drp1 for mitochondrial quality surveillance

  • Mitochondrial morphology is known to be continuously changing via fusion and fission, but it is unclear what the biological importance of this energy-consuming process is and how it develops. Several data have suggested that mitochondrial fission executed by Drp1 is necessary to select out a damaged spot from the interconnected mitochondrial network, but the precise mechanism for the recognition and isolation of a damaged sub-mitochondrial region during mitochondrial fission is yet unclear. Recently, Cho et al. found that the mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) is transiently reduced by the physical interaction of Drp1 and mitochondrial Zinc transporter, Zip1, at the fission site prior to the typical mitochondrial division, and we found that this event is essential for a mitochondrial quality surveillance. In this review, Cho et al. discuss the role of a mitochondrial fission in the mitochondrial quality surveillance system.

A case report of "minor" trauma leading to a major disability: whiplash-associated dysphagia, dysphonia, and dysgeusia

  • "Whiplash"-type injuries are commonly encountered and often cause neck pain, neck stiffness, and headaches. However, these injuries can have rare and poorly recognized complications, such as the development of a prevertebral hematoma leading to acute respiratory failure in the emergency department, followed by severe, life-threatening dysphagia and recurrent aspirations. In the patient described herein, a whiplash injury was accompanied by vocal cord paralysis and dysphonia (vagus nerve), dysgeusia (glossopharyngeal nerve, vagus nerve), and upper esophageal spasm (cricopharyngeal muscle, vagus nerve). It is unlikely that this was a complication of cervical fusion surgery. Instead, a combined stretch-induced lower cranial nerve injury, possibly on the exit of these nerves through the jugular foramen, seems to be a likely, but underappreciated mechanism occurring in rare instances of whiplash injuries.

  • The federated learning can be utilized in conjunction with the blockchain technology to provide good privacy protection and reward distribution mechanism in the field of intelligent IOT in edge computing scenarios. Nonetheless, the synchronous federated learning ignores the waiting delay due to the heterogeneity of edge devices (different computing power, communication bandwidth, and dataset size). Moreover, the potential of smart contracts was not fully explored to do some flexible design. This paper investigates the fusion application based on the FLchain, which is the combination of asynchronous federated learning and blockchain, discusses the communication optimization, and explores the feasible design of smart contract to solve some problems.

Performance Improvement of IPMC(Ionic Polymer Metal Composites) for a Flapping Actuator

  • In this paper, a trade-off design and fabrication of IPMC(Ionic Polymer Metal Composites) as an actuator for a flapping device have been described. Experiments for the internal solvent loss of IPMCs have been conducted for various combinations of cation and solvent in order to find out the best combination of cation and solvent for minimal solvent loss and higher actuation force. From the experiments, it was found that IPMCs with heavy water as their solvent could operate longer. Relations between length/thickness and tip force of IPMCs were also quantitatively identified for the actuator design from the tip force measurement of 200, 400, 640, and $800{\mu}m$ thick IPMCs. All IPMCs thicker than $200{\mu}m$ were processed by casting $Nafion^{TM}$ solution. The shorter and thicker IPMCs tended to generate higher actuation force but lower actuation displacement. To improve surface conductivity and to minimize solvent evaporation due to electrically heated electrodes, gold was sputtered on both surfaces of the cast IPMCs by the Physical Vapor Deposition(PVD) process. For amplification of a short IPMC's small actuation displacement to a large flapping motion, a rack-and-pinion type hinge was used in the flapping device. An insect wing was attached to the IPMC flapping mechanism for its flapping test. In this test, the wing flapping device using the $800{\mu}m$ thick IPMC. could create around $10^{\circ}{\sim}85^{\circ}$ flapping angles and $0.5{\sim}15Hz$ flapping frequencies by applying $3{\sim|}4V$.
