General hospitals in Korea have increased more in size since 2000, and as not only medical service but the quality of the environment also got important, the considerable changes have appeared revolving around the lobbies. This study is a basic research to find a direction of a plan for general hospital lobbies in response to the demands that change. It was examined the current condition of lobbies so as to derive the idea of types of lobbies and of functional elements, and based on the research, it was compared and analyzed in terms of the spatial configuration to draw the characteristics by type. The result of the research is as follows. (1) The lobbies were explored after being classified into four types; the plan(central type/street type) and the elevation(eclectic type/double-story type). (2) The hall and corridor were ranked high in order of importance in the whole spatial configuration, and it has been utilized in various ways. (3) Also, each type differed with the others in its main functional area, regarding traffic line efficiency and spatial intelligibility.
Objectives: Food literacy (FL) can be an important concept that embodies the nutritional capabilities of individuals. The purpose of this study was to introduce the definition and core elements of FL from previous literature, to summarize measurement tools and intervention programs with FL, and to suggest the direction of future research and programs to integrate the concept of FL. Methods: The literature review was conducted through PubMed and Google Scholar databases by combining the search term 'food literacy' with 'definition', 'measurement', 'questionnaire', 'intervention', and 'program'. Among the 94 papers primarily reviewed 31 manuscripts that suited the purpose of the study were used for analyses. Results: There is no consensus on the definition of FL that encompasses the multidimensional aspects of the concept. The definitions of FL were slightly different depending on the authors, and the interpretation of the core elements also varied. Based on the review, we propose a framework of FL that is in line with the current discussion among international researchers. This focuses on the core elements adapted from health literacy, namely functional, interactive, and critical FL. Specifically, we suggest some detailed elements for interactive and critical FL, which were often the subject of divergent views among researchers in previous literature. We found that most of the tools in the reviewed literature provided information on validity and reliability and were developed for a specific target population. Also, most of the tools were focused on functional FL. Similarly, most of the interventions targeted functional FL. Conclusions: This study reviewed the definition and core elements of FL, available measurement tools, and intervention programs using validated tools. We propose the development of tools with sound reliability and validity that encompass the three core elements of FL for different age groups. This will help to understand whether improving food literacy can translate into better nutritional intake and health status among individuals and communities.
The objective of this study is to analyze the characteristic of a functional design for a commercial outdoor brand jacket based on 3 types of functions : windproof, waterproof, and cold proof. To analyze the design and fabric characteristics of outdoor jackets by function, 903 men's and women's outdoor jacket images were selected from the catalogues during S/S 2009 - F/W 2011 of the 6 brands: The North Face, Columbia Sports Wear, Kolon Sports, K2, Arcteryx and Mont-Bell. These brands were selected based on their high market share and brand awareness of the outdoor brands in Korea. In this study, design elements analysis was conducted as following 8 elements: hood/collar height/central front flap/waistline/pocket location/ventilation for the body part/sleeve patterns/cuff for the sleeve part. Fabrics were analyzed by the frequency of fabric types used in the 3 jacket types. According to the result derived from the analysis of the six brands of outdoor wear jacket design trends by year, detachable hood and a co-use of velcro and elastic bands have been mainly designed for all of windproof, waterproof, and cold proof jacket to all in order to respond quickly to changes in the external environment. For reinforced storage function on trekking, the number of pockets has been gradually growing, and a function was being developed to connect an electronic device to a pocket. The method, result, and collateral observations relevant to each of these phases are described. Outdoor jacket design characteristics were investigated for outdoor brands, which can provide data to suggest more accurate functional design, and satisfy functional design needs. In this regard, this research was significant in the sense that it suggested preliminary data to reconsider competitiveness of the brand products.
The effects of sensing materials, coating methods, diluent gases, and temperature have been studied in detail to make a quartz crystal microbalance based adsorption sensor system for detecting gases. In particular, sensor elements for detecting $NO_2$ and $SO_2$, that are known as major air pollutants, have been prepared by coating two different polymers, polypyrrole and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene). The sensor elements prepared in this work have high sensitivity and selectivity for $NO_2$ and $SO_2$ at ppm level concentrations. It was proven that the sensing characteristics and response rate of the sensing elements are highly dependent on the coating method and the loading mass of sensing materials.
The Internet of Things market, a technology that connects the Internet to various things, is growing day by day. Besides, various smart home services using IoT and AI (Artificial Intelligence) are being launched in homes. Related to this, existing smart home-related studies focus primarily on ICT technology, not on what service improvements should be made in customer positions. In this study, we will use smart home application customer review data to classify functional and design elements of smart home usability value and examine the ways customers think of service improvement. For this, LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics" Smart Home application, the main provider of Smart Home in Korea, customer reviews were crawled to conduct a comparative analysis between them. In this study, the review of IoT home-applications was analyzed to find service improvement insights from customer perspective, and related analysis of text mining, social network analysis and Doc2vec was used to efficiently analyze data equivalent to about 16,000 user reviews. Through this research, we hope that related companies effectively seek ways to improve smart home services that reflect customer needs and are expected to help them establish competitive strategies by identifying weaknesses and strengths among competitors.
Recently, as people have more interest in health, and some change takes place in their lifestyles, a demand for environment-friendly residential space is also increasing. Research on the introduction of natural elements is mostly conducted for humans to pursue a more pleasant and comfortable life in residential space since it has one of the closest relation with humans. Therefore, it is such an important assignment at present when environmental problems are considered significant. Based on such a necessity, this study analyzed the introduction types and characteristics of natural elements in residential space by considering essential and psychological aspects more than previous researches on residential space with practical and functional aspects. As natural elements, this study put limits on plants and water that are used a lot in the interior space, and by dividing introduction types into recomposition of courtyard space, spatial partition and decorative elements, this study carried out a case analysis of residential space structures recently completed in Japan. As a basic research on space planning that is desperately required by change in the residential life paradigm and on the basis of understanding about nature, it is expected that the results of this study will be used as design basic data useful when establishing plans of introducing natural elements for residential space in the future.
Beginning from the recognition of FtsZ as a bacterial tubulin homolog in the early 1990s, many bacterial cytoskeletal elements have been identified, including homologs to the major eukaryotic cytoskeletal elements (tubulin, actin, and intermediate filament) and the elements unique in prokaryotes (ParA/MinD family and bactofilins). The discovery and functional characterization of the bacterial cytoskeleton have revolutionized our understanding of bacterial cells, revealing their elaborate and dynamic subcellular organization. As in eukaryotic systems, the bacterial cytoskeleton participates in cell division, cell morphogenesis, DNA segregation, and other important cellular processes. However, in accordance with the vast difference between bacterial and eukaryotic cells, many bacterial cytoskeletal proteins play distinct roles from their eukaryotic counterparts; for example, control of cell wall synthesis for cell division and morphogenesis. This review is aimed at providing an overview of the bacterial cytoskeleton, and discussing the roles and assembly dynamics of bacterial cytoskeletal proteins in more detail in relation to their most widely conserved functions, DNA segregation and coordination of cell wall synthesis.
Until recently, since the Human Genome Project, the general view has been that the majority of the human genome is composed of junk DNA and has little or no selective advantage to the organism. Now we know that this conclusion is an oversimplification. In April 2003, the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) launched an international research consortium called Encyclopedia of DNA Elements (ENCODE) to uncover non-coding functional elements in the human genome. The result of this project has identified a set of new DNA regulatory elements, based on novel relationships among chromatin accessibility, histone modifications, nucleosome positioning, DNA methylation, transcription, and the occupancy of sequence-specific factors. The project gives us new insights into the organization and regulation of the human genome and epigenome. Here, we sought to summarize particular aspects of the ENCODE project and highlight the features and data that have recently been released. At the end of this review, we have summarized a case study we conducted using the ENCODE epigenome data.
This thesis proposes a new heuristic algorithm of integrated allocation and binding for high level synthesis. The proposed algorithm simultaneously allocates binds functional units, interconnections and registers by considering interdependency between operations and storage elements in each control step, in order to share registers and interconnections connected to functional units, as much as possible. This thesis shows the effectiveness of the algorithm by comparing the results of out experiments with those of existing system.
