A Study on the Theoretical Analysis and Optimal Design Conditions for the $\alpha$ type Stirling Engine ($\alpha$형 스터링 엔진의 최적 설계 조건)

  • A stirling engine is a mechanism used to convert heat to power and operates on a closed regenerative thermodynamic cycle with compression and expansion of the working fluid at different temperature. The performance of a stilting cycle machine is a function of six independent parameters, namely; (1) speed N(r.p.m), (2) pressure of the working fluid p(Pa), (3) ratio of the temperature in the compression and expansion space ${\tau}(=T_C/T_E)$ , (4) ratio of the swept volumes in these two spaces K, (5) phase angle $\alpha$ and (6) dead volume ratio X. This paper describes the procedure and presents the results of computations carried out to establish the optimum combinations of these six parameters for maximum engine output for the machine acting as a prime mover, over a combined temperature range from $300^{\circ}K$ to $1000^{\circ}K$ and dead volume ratio X ranging from 0.1 to 2.0. The output of a stilting cycle machine can be expressed in terms of nondimensional power in several different ways. Four methods were studied in detail, the parameters optimized and design charts and engine power charts prepared. The results of this paper may be useful as a guide to the likely effects on the performance of some of the important design parameters and regenerator design.

Circulating Current Harmonics Suppression for Modular Multilevel Converters Based on Repetitive Control

  • Modular multilevel converters (MMCs) have emerged as the most promising topology for high and medium voltage applications for the coming years. However, one particular negative characteristic of MMCs is the existence of circulating current, which contains a dc component and a series of low-frequency even-order ac harmonics. If not suppressed, these ac harmonics will distort the arm currents, increase the power loses, and cause higher current stresses on the semiconductor devices. Repetitive control (RC) is well known due to its distinctive capabilities in tracking periodic signals and eliminating periodic errors. In this paper, a novel circulating current control scheme base on RC is proposed to effectively track the dc component and to restrain the low-frequency ac harmonics. The integrating function is inherently embedded in the RC controller. Therefore, the proposed circulating current control only parallels the RC controller with a proportional controller. Thus, conflicts between the RC controller and the traditional proportional integral (PI) controller can be avoided. The design methodologies of the RC controller and a stability analysis are also introduced. The validity of the proposed circulating current control approach has been verified by simulation and experimental results based on a three-phase MMC downscaled prototype.

Recovery of Etching Damage of Etched PZT Thin Film by Inductively Coupled Plasma (유도결합 플라즈마에 의해 식각된 PZT 박막의 식각 Damage 개선)

  • In this work, the recovery of etching damage in the etched PZT thin film with $O_2$ annealing has been studied. The PZT thin films were etched as a function of Cl$_2$/Ar and additive CF$_4$ into Cl$_2$(80%) /Ar(20%). the etch rates of PZT thin films were 1600$\AA$/min at Cl$_2$(80%)/Ar(20%) and 1970 $\AA$/min at 30% additive Cf$_4$ into Cl$_2$(80%)/Ar(20%). In order to recover the characteristics of etched PZT thin films, the etched PZT thin films were annealed in $O_2$ atmosphere at various temperatures. From the hysteresis curves, ferroelectrical properties are improved by $O_2$ annealing process. The improvement of ferroelectric behavior is consistent with the increase of the (100) and (200) PZT phase revealed by x-ray diffraction (XRD). From x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis, intensities of Pb-O, Zr-O and Ti-O peak increase and the chemical residue peak is reduced by $O_2$ annealing. From the atomic force microscopy (AFM) images. it shows that the surface morphology of re-annealed PZT thin films after etching is improved.

Effect of Sintering Temperature on Properties of $\beta$-SiC-$ZrB_2$ Composites Manufactured by Pressureless Sintering (상압소결법에 의해 제조한 $\beta$-SiC-$ZrB_2$ 복합체의 특성에 미치는 소결온도의 영향)

  • The $\beta$-SiC + $ZrB_2$ ceramic electroconductive composites were pressureless-sintered and annealed by adding 12wt% $Al_2O_3$ + $Y_2O_3$ (6 : 4wt%) powder as a function of sintering temperature. The relative density showed the highest value of 81.1% at 1900$^{\circ}C$ sintering temperature. The phase analysis of the composites by XRD revealed of $\alpha$-SiC(6H), $TiB_2$, $Al_5Y_2O_{12}$ and $\beta$-SiC(15R). Flexural strength showed the highest value of 230 MPa for composites sintered at 1900$^{\circ}C$. The vicker's hardness and the fracture toughness showed the highest value of increased with increasing sintering temperature and showed the highest of 9.88 GPa and 6.05 $MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$ at 1900$^{\circ}C$. The electrical resistivity was measured by the Pauw method from 25$^{\circ}C$ to 700$^{\circ}C$. The electrical resistivity of the composites showed the PTCR (Positive Temperature Coefficient Resistivity).

The Piezoelectric and Dielectric Properties of PZT-PMN Piezoelectric Ceramics (PZT-PMN 압전 세라믹의 압전 및 유전 특성)

  • In this paper, the piezoelectric and dielectric properties as a function of x and r in $yPbZr_xTi_{1-x}O_3-(1-y)Pb(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ piezoelectric ceramics is investigated. As a results, when y is 0.95 and x is 0.505, electromechanical coupling factor($k_p$), permittivity(${{\varepsilon}_{33}}^T/{\varepsilon}_0$), piezoelectric strain constant($d_{33}$) and mechanical quality factor($Q_m$) are 58[%], 1520, 272 [pC/N] and 1550, respectively. From XRD analysis, when x is 0.505, it is MPB which present rhombohedral and tetragonal phase in same quantity. Also, From SEM observation. when sintering temperature is 1150[$^{\circ}C$], grain size is about 2 [${\mu}m$]. As y decreases, piezoelectric and dielectric properties and curie temperature decreases, but mechanical quality factor and sintering temperature increases.

  • This research presents the design and analysis of PCDU(Power Control & Distribution Unit) of communication satellite. The PCDU of a spacecraft must provide adequate power to each subsystem and payload during mission life, and it also needs high reliability and performance in space environment. A control circuit of the PCDU include bus sensing and filter circuits, error signal amplification circuit, error compensation circuit of SAS(Shunt Assembly Switch) and BPC(Battery Power Converter). The phase margin and DC gain for the designed circuits are analyzed through the frequency response characteristics of the compensated control circuit. And also the transfer function of the battery power converter circuit are discussed at the battery CCCM(Charge Continuous Conduction Mode) and battery C/DCCM(Continuous/Discontinuous Conduction Mode).

  • Longitudinal transmission-line modal theory is applied to analyze maximum power transfer in plasmonic grating-assisted directional couplers (P-GADC) based on silicon waveguide. By defining a coupling efficiency amenable to rigorous analytical solutions and interference between even and odd modes, the power exchange of TE modes as a function of propagation distance is evaluated. The numerical result reveals that maximum power transfer occurs at a grating period ${\Lambda}_{eq}=10.26{\mu}m$, in which the insertion loss of supermodes is equal to each other. That is, it is generally different from conventional phase-matching condition or minium gap condition of GADC.

  • This experiment was carried out to develop a sensitive, rapid, solid-phase microtitre plate assay of progesterone using the monoclonal antibody to this hormone. Monoclonal antibody to progesterone was much higher titre and binding affinity about 10 times than conventional polyclonal antibody to progesterone. Dot-blot analysis of monoclonal antibody revealed a single precipitation band when reacted with anti-mouse IgM and anti-mouse K. A competitive reaction was used with a reaction time of 2 hours. The standard dose-response curve was linear through 1,000pg/well. This ELISA system approach is applicable to evaluation for the rapid assessment of luteal function and reproductive status in both clinical and research in a wide variety of species.

The Influence of Architecture on the Altes Museum in Designing the Pinakothek der Moderne (피나코텍 데 모데르네 설계과정에 나타난 알테스뮤지엄의 영향)

  • In the phase of an architectural designing, the Pinakothek der Modeme in Munich is considered that it is influenced by the Altes Museum in Berlin. The critical elements were composed of the classification of Tominaka and my points of view. Two buildings were analyzed for comparison by six elements, such as, a spatial construction, an organization of plan, an organization of section, a composition of elevation, a method of construction and a composition of mass. The results of the analysis were that the design of the Pinakothek der modeme was influenced by the Altes Museum as follows: 1)the use of square and circle in the composition of plan, 2)the use of a curtain of columns and a formation of the transitional space between columns and front wall, 3)the location and function of the main stairs and the inner court, 4)the arrangement of exhibition halls, 5)the covering of dome, 6)the unification of spaces of different floors through the rotunda. This study may be helpful for any architects who make a decision of the method and the range of reference to some other building in the beginning of design.

Characterization of a novel methionine sulfoxide reductase A from tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), and its protecting role in Escherichia coli

  • Methionine sulfoxide reductase A (MSRA) is a ubiquitous enzyme that has been demonstrated to reduce the S enantiomer of methionine sulfoxide (MetSO) to methionine (Met) and can protect cells against oxidative damage. In this study, we isolated a novel MSRA (SlMSRA2) from Micro-Tom (Solanum lycopersicum L. cv. Micro-Tom) and characterized it by subcloning the coding sequence into a pET expression system. Purified recombinant protein was assayed by HPLC after expression and refolding. This analysis revealed the absolute specificity for methionine-S-sulfoxide and the enzyme was able to convert both free and protein-bound MetSO to Met in the presence of DTT. In addition, the optimal pH, appropriate temperature, and $K_m$ and $K_{cat}$ values for MSRA2 were observed as 8.5, $25^{\circ}C$, $352{\pm}25\;{\mu}M$, and $0.066{\pm}0.009\;S^{-1}$, respectively. Disk inhibition and growth rate assays indicated that SlMSRA2 may play an essential function in protecting E. coli against oxidative damage.
