  • This paper proposes the design of a current-mode CCII-based 2$\^$nd/ _order bandpass biquad filter from a grounded series capacitor and frequency-dependent negative conductor ( C-D ) immittance function simulator using the macro model of a commercial available CCII+, AD844, from Analog Devices, Inc. The results are compared with the other results those are designed using ideal model of CCII-. The gain and phase deviations; due to the effects of passive sensitivity, active sensitivity, gain sensitivity and component variability; are considered using Monte-Carlo analysis of PSpice program.

  • Since it is difficult to analytically express the Melnikov function when a dynamic system possesses multiple saddle fixed points with homoclinic and/or heteroclinic orbits, this paper investigates a vehicle model with nonlinear suspension spring and hysteretic damping element, which exhibits multiple heteroclinic orbits in the unperturbed system. First, an algorithm for Melnikov integrals is developed based on the Melnikov method. And then the amplitude threshold of road excitation at the onset of chaos is determined. By numerical simulation, the existence of chaos in the present system is verified via time history curves, phase portrait plots and $Poincar{\acute{e}}$ maps. Finally, in order to further identify the chaotic motion of the nonlinear system, the maximal Lyapunov exponent is also adopted. The results indicate that the numerical method of estimating chaotic threshold is an effective one to complicated vehicle systems.

  • This study is an analysis of the turbulent diffusion flame with swirl flow and the calculated results are compared with experimental data in case of various swirl numbers and air-fuel rations. The mathematical model is restricted to single-phase, diffusion controlled combustion with swirl flow. Values of local flow properties were obtained by solving appropriate differential equation for continuity, momentum, stagnation enthalpy, concentration, turbulence energy, dissipation rate of turbulence energy, and the mean square of concentration fluctuation. The method is proposed for calculating the local probability of chemical reaction based on the use of the probability density function for the mixture fraction.

  • A numerical procedure for optimizing the shape of three-dimensional sedimentation tank is presented to maximize its sedimentation efficiency. The response surface based optimization is used as an optimization technique with Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes analysis for multi-phase flow. Standard $k-{\epsilon}$ model is used as a turbulence closure. Three design variables such as, tank height to center feed wall diameter ratio, blockage ratio of center feed wall and angle of distributor are chosen as design variables. Sedimentation efficiency is defined as an objective function. Full-factorial method is used to determine the training points as a means of design of experiment. Sensitivity of each design variable on the objective function has been evaluated. And, optimal values of the design variables have been obtained.

  • In preliminary design phase, the wing geometry of the civil aircraft was determined using the empirical equation and historical data. To make wing geometry more aerodynamically efficient, an aerodynamic shape optimization was conducted. For this purpose the parametric modeling, high fidelity CFD analysis and metamodel-based optimal design technique were adopted. The parametric modeling got the design process to achieve the improvement by generating the configuration outputs easily for the major design variables. The optimal design equations were formularized as the type of the multi-objective functions considering low/high speed and lift/drag coefficient. The optimal solution was explored with the help of the kriging metamodel and the desirability function, therefore the optimal wing planform was sought to be excellent at both low and high speed region. Additionally the optimal wing planform was validated that it was excellent not only at the specific AOA, but also all over the range of AOA.

  • In mm-VLBI, the quality of observation data is largely affected by atmospheric effect. The most challenging matter is that the phase of correlator output fluctuates rapidly resulting from a variation of atmospheric propagation delay. Consequently, it is demanding to achieve high Signal-to-Noise ratio by integrating data in time domain before calibrating atmospheric delay. However, Korean VLBI Network (KVN) has a unique system to make a 4-frequency (22/43/86/129 GHz) simultaneous observation in mm-wavelength and Frequency Phase Transfer (FPT) calibration technique has effectively removed atmospheric delay in the simultaneous multi-frequency observation of the KVN. For astrometric and astrophysical studies, we evaluated the FPT performance of KVN in various observing conditions. Using the total 38 bright AGNs, we have compared atmospheric conditions such as ground-based weather information, system temperature, atmospheric delay with the calibration results of FPT at 22/43/86/129 GHz during the five experiments in 2013, and quantified its performance in terms of coherence function and Allan variance. We present the analysis result of the relation between the FPT performance and observing conditions.

  • Longitudinal shear modulus of continuous fiber reinforced 2-phase composites is predicted by theoretical and numerical analysis methods. In this paper, circular, hexagonal and rectangular shapes of reinforced fiber are considered using unit cell concept. And fiber array is regular rectangular and hexagonal fiber arrangement. Longitudinal shear modulus is a function of fiber distribution pattern and fiber volume change. It is found that the rectangular array has a higher longitudinal shear modulus than the hexagonal one. Also, the rectangular fiber shape in lower fiber volume fraction and the circular fiber shape in higher fiber volume fraction show the higher longitudinal shear modulus. And it has been found that the theoretical and numerical predictions of the longitudinal shear modulus give a good agreement with the experimental data at lower fiber volume fraction. Both the distance and stress transfer between the fibers are discussed as the major determing factors.

  • Highway have to be constructed under thorough investigation about function, economy, safety of the traffic and environment, because they are needing huge budget for construction and management as important facilities of the social overhead capital in the national economics. Initially the construction of roads becomes effective the plan, the design, construction phase. The design is foundation of accomplishment of the roads operation, the results of the design operation come to much effect a nation when using roads. Especially ancient design methods were not expected for visual effects as attaching weight to 2-dimensional drawing from flat. Therefore, it is difficult to recognize troubles happened during the work operation besides, many troubles are solved by modification of drawings as situations. For solving of those of the problems, it is emphasize on visual effect through introduction of 3-dimensional design from the initial phase. In case of national conditions, limited national land has caused increasing weight for construction of the roads through cities as the urban centered development. thereupon, citizens are increasing concern about the right of the light and the environmental effect, road designs and construction of the structures under agreement with local residents cause to make troubles. The analysis of 3-dimensional design is necessary as intermediation for decision making. In this study, Virtual reality techniques in 3-dimensional roads design are expected to visual effect on the publishing Internet Web, find problems in first phase and make decision between users and people having civil appeal.

THE UPDATED ORBITAL EPHEMERIS OF DIPPING LOW MASS X-ray BINARY 4U 1624-49

  • We present our analysis results for an updated orbital ephemeris for the dipping low mass X-ray binary 4U 1624-49, using the light curve collected by the All Sky Monitor (ASM) on board the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) and the Monitor of All-Sky X-ray Image (MAXI). To make clear dip profiles, the light curve from the ASM and the MAXI were divided into ten 500d segments and four 400d segments for ASM and MAXI light curves, respectively, and folded with the linear ephemeris proposed by Smale et al. (2001). The phases of dip centers were determined by the method adopted from Hu et al. (2008). The phase drift was then fitted with a linear function. We obtained an updated orbital period of 0.869896(1) d and a phase zero epoch of JD 2450088.6618(57). No clear orbital period derivative is detected with a 2-sigma upper limit of $1.4{\times}10^{-6}(yr)^{-1}$ from a quadratic curve fitting of the dip phase evolution.

  • Accurate prediction of the radiated noise is important to reduce the noise of the washing machine. It is also necessary to predict the excitation force accurately because excitation force can induce noise. In order to predict the excitation force acting on the washing machine, this paper conducts source identification method by use of phase reference spectrum. In this method, the transfer function between the cabinet and the motor through FEM and the measured response from the surface of the cabinet is used. The analysis of the radiation noise from the identified exciting force has been investigated. The comparison between the predicted SPL and the measured SPL at 1m apart from the front side of the washing machine showed good tendency.
