The sensitivity of ship resistance to wall-adjacent grids and near-wall treatments

  • Numerical simulations of turbulent flows around KCS have been performed to study the sensitivity of ship resistance to wall-adjacent grids and disclose the influence of near-wall treatment on the sensitivity of ship resistance. The resistance coefficients of viscous and pressure forces were compared when using realizable $k-{\varepsilon}$ and SST $k-{\omega}$ turbulence models in structured and unstructured grids, respectively. The calculation of friction velocity was found to be mainly responsible for the reduction of viscous and total resistances when the height of wall-adjacent cells increased. Since the assumption of equilibrium state between turbulent production and dissipation was not met in a bulbous bow, it was more reasonable to iteratively calculate the friction velocity from empirical laws of the wall for near-wall treatment rather than explicitly estimate it from the turbulent kinetic energy.

자동차용 마찰재에 함유된 세라믹분말의 함량에 따른 마찰특성 (Friction Characteristics of Automotive Friction Materials with Ceramic Powder Contents)

  • The friction characteristics of automotive brake friction materials that contained different ceramic content were investigated. Several kinds of raw materials, such as resin-based binder, reinforcing fiber, friction restraint, abrasive, and filling materials were mixed, pressed, and heated in order to make the brake friction materials. The contents of SiC and $BaSO_4$ changed from 5 vol% to 20 vol%, respectively. In addition to this, the content of $Al_2O_3$ adjusted from 1 vol% to 16 vol%. The surface morphology of the SiC containing sample appeared rough while more debris was observed when the contents of SiC increased. This implies that the SiC containing brake composite was not adequate for the automobile. However, the relatively smooth surface was observed in samples that contained the $Al_2O_3$. But the roughness was low with a content of 11 vol% $Al_2O_3$ compared to the other samples. This is consistent with the abrasive properties of the samples. In the case of $BaSO_4$ containing samples, the smoothes surface was observed in the contents of 15 vol% $BaSO_4$. Thus, it was concluded that the 11 vol% $Al_2O_3$ and 15 vol% $BaSO_4$ containing composite would be the optimum content for the brake composite. Similar to the results of the surface morphology, the abrasion resistance consistently decreased when the content of SiC increased. On the contrary, the sample that contained 11 vol% $Al_2O_3$ and 15 vol% $BaSO_4$ showed the highest abrasion resistance compared to the other samples.

수정된 직접 전단 시험기를 이용한 모래와 표면 돌출부를 갖는 플레이트 사이의 마찰 이방성에 대한 연구 (A Study on Friction Anisotropy between Sand and Surface Asperities of Plate Using Modified Direct Shear Test)

  • 마찰 방향에 따른 전단 저항의 이방성을 지반 구조물에서 선택적으로 이용할 수가 있다. 예를 들어서, 축방향으로 하중을 가하는 깊은 기초, 소일 네일링, 타이백 등은 큰 전단 저항이 유발되므로 하중 전달 능력을 증가시키지만, 이와 반대로 말뚝 관입과 흙 시료 채취 등은 최소화된 전단 저항만 유발된다. 기존 연구는 뱀 비늘의 기하학적 형상과 유사한 표면 돌출부를 갖는 플레이트와 흙 경계면에서 유발되는 전단 저항 변화를 확인하였다. 본 논문에서는 표면 돌출부의 형상에 따른 경계면 마찰각의 변화를 정량적으로 평가하였다. 수정된 직접 전단 시험기를 이용하여 상대 밀도가 40%로 조성된 모래 시료에 대해 9개의 플레이트, 2개의 전단 방향(전단 시 돌출부 높이가 증가와 감소하는 방향), 그리고 3개의 초기 수직 응력(100kPa, 200kPa, 300kPa) 조건으로 총 51가지 경우를 실험 하였다. 실험 결과, 전단 응력은 돌출부 높이가 높을수록, 돌출부 길이가 짧을수록, 돌출부 높이가 증가하는 전단 방향에서 크게 나타났다.

  • Diamond composites hold promise as a tribological material because of low friction and high wear resistance. We studied friction and wear of polyimide-20vol% PTFE-diamond composites in open air at room temperature, focusing on the effects of diamond size, and diamond content, sliding conditions, and mating material. Friction coefficient and wear tend to Increase with increasing diamond size and content. Composites of appropriate diamond size and content showed a friction coefficient below 0.1 and specific wear of $10^{-7}\;mm^3/Nm$. Friction and wear of composites sliding against stainless steel were higher than those of Al_2O_3$ an increase that became increasingly not able with increasing diamond size.

  • Cu-Matrix sintered brake pads and low alloyed heat resistance steel are most applied to basic brake system for high energy moving machine. In this research, we analyzed tribological characteristics for influence of air velocity between disk and pad. At low brake pressure with air flow, friction stability was decreased due to no formation of tribofilm at disk surface. But there are no significant change of friction coefficient at all test conditions. Wear rate of friction materials were decreased with increasing of air flow velocity. In result, air flow velocity influenced friction stability, wear rate of friction materials and disk but not friction coefficient.

CFRP 복합재의 적층방향에 대한 마찰 및 마모 특성 (Friction and Wear Characteristics of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Composites against Lay-up Orientation)

  • This paper is the study on dry sliding wear behavior of carbon fiber reinforced epoxy matrix composites against lay-up orientation. Tests were investigated on the effect of the lay-up orientation, fiber sliding direction, load and sliding velocity when circumstance keep continuously at $21^{\circ}C$, 60%RH. Pin-on-disk dry sliding wear tests for each experimental condition were carried out with a carbon fiber reinforced plastic pin on stainless steel disk in order to search the friction and wear characteristics. The wear rates and friction coefficients against the stainless steel counterpart were experimentally determined and the wear mechanisms were microscopically observed. The effect on friction and wear behavior are observed differently, according to various conditions. When sliding took place against counterpart, the highest wear resistance and the lowest friction coefficient were observed in the $[0]_{24s}$ lay-up orientation at anti-parallel direction.

$ZrSiO_4$가 첨가된 마찰재의 마찰 안정성 (Friction Stability of Materials with $ZrSiO_4$ Addition)

  • This study was conducted to invent brake of non-steel material without using asbestos and disc pad added $ZrSiO_4$ was made. The physical properties and friction characteristics were investigated by varying methods. The physical properties were inspected of shear strength, hardness, heat expansion, specific gravity, % of gashole, thickness variation, weight variation and pH variation. The friction stability was measured by friction coefficient on variations of speed, temperature and deceleration condition. It was found that the physical properties were in general excellent. According to the friction characteristics tests, $ZrSiO_4$ had an abrasive property. As a results, the friction materials containing $ZrSiO_4$ 3~5vol% showed better resistance to fading and improved friction stability than the materials without ZrSiO$_4$.

Friction Bushing용 복합재료의 미끄럼 마찰마모특성에 관한 연구 (Sliding Wear and Friction Properties of Composite Materials for Friction Bushing)

  • The sliding friction and wear properties of mineral fiber reinforced composite(MF) and glass fiber reinforced composites(GF) are investigated to clarify their field of use and the role of each fiber in friction material. Friction and wear test reveals that GF composite has better wear resistance even though with low friction coefficient, comparing with MF composite. Glass fiber strengthen effectively the matrix and may absorb friction energy to convert it into the fracture energy of them, as well as its lubricative role. However, mineral fiber in MF composite is too small to strengthen the matrix. Then MF composite are easily plowed and worn out by asperity on counter material. Friction coefficient of MF composite is higher friction coefficient than that of GF composite and varied widely with test.

고체 윤활제의 특성에 따른 반금속계 마찰재의 마찰 마모특성에 관한 연구 (Tribological Properties of Semi-metallic Brake Friction Materials Containing Different Solid Lubricants: Graphite, $WS_2$, and $MoS_2$)

  • Tribological properties of the semi-metallic friction materials containing different solid lubricants (graphite, $WS_2$, $MoS_2$) were investigated. The friction materials were fabricated with an experimental formulation and tested with gray cast iron disks. Results showed that graphite contributed to stabilize the friction coefficient during run-in processes. Also, graphite provided better fade resistance than that of $WS_2$ and $MoS_2$. At intermediate temperature ranges, however, friction materials with $WS_2$ or $MoS_2$ maintained higher friction effectiveness than that of graphite. On the other hand, friction materials containing $MoS_2$ showed increased wear rates than that with graphite or $WS_2$. Friction materials with proper combinations of two solid lubricants showed better friction and wear properties than that of the friction materials containing single solid lubricant.

TiN 코팅층 집합조직의 변화에 따른 마찰, 마멸과 내부식 특성 (The Characteristics of Frictional Behavior, Wear and Corrosion Resistance of Textured TiN Coated Layer)

  • TiN coated films show a good mechanical properties, high thermal properties and wear, erosion and corrosion resistance and are widely used as a coating materials in tools, ornaments, parts and semiconductors. In spite of these good properties, the fracture of TiN coated films occur during use. The fracture of TiN thin films is related to their microstructure. Especially, the life of TiN coated layer is related to the texture of the TiN films. One researcher suggested that the corrosion and erosion resistance of the TiN thin films is related to a uniform and dense structure of films. In this study, we studied the relationships between textures and friction coefficient, erosion and corrosion in TiN coated films. The flatness of (115) texture surface of TiN thin films is flatter than that of (111) texture surface. The friction coefficient of (115) texture surface of TiN thin films is similar with that of (111) texture surface. The wear resistance of (115) texture surface of TiN thin films is better than that of (111) texture surface. The erosion and corrosion resistance of (115) texture surface of TiN thin films is better than that of (111) torture surface. As well as texture, the wear, erosion and corrosion of TiN thin films has to consider defects such as pinholes, cracks, surface roughness and open columnar structure. The life of TiN coated products is influenced by the properties of wear, erosion, and corrosion resistance of TiN thin films and is related to texture of TiN coated films, density of pinholes and cracks, density of structure, and surface flatness.
