  • Monopulse active homing radar requires velocity and angle information of target to track fast moving target. Target velocity can be estimated by measuring the frequency shift between transmitted and received frequencies. Angle information is obtained by measuring boresight error. Measurement of doppler frequency component in received signal is done through FFT analysis and interpolation algorithm for fine tuning. Boresight errors in azimuth and elevation axes are proportional to the power of each difference channel relative to sum channel. The target signal power in difference channel is estimated more precisely by measuring the power of FFT result cell of maximum ...

  • Zero-Crossings with Peak Amplitudes(ZCPA) model motivated by human auditory periphery was proposed to extract reliable features speech signals even in noisy environments for robust speech recognition. In this paper, some practical considerations for digital hardware implementations of the ZCPA model are addressed and evaluated for recognition of speech corrupted by several real world noises as well as white Gaussian noise. Infinite impulse response(IIR) filters which constitute the cochliar filterbank of the ZCPA are replaced by hamming bandpass filters of which frequency responses are less similar to biological neural tuning curves. Experimental results demonstrate that the detailed frequency response of the cochlear filters are not critical to performance. Also, the sensitivity of the model output to the variations in microphone gain is investigated, and results in good reliability of the ZCPA model.

  • We use a saturation function with memory instead of a pure saturation function to generate a limit cycle in order to find one point information of a plant in the frequency domain. The saturation function with memory is useful in the presence of noise and/or a short duration of short duration of external disturbances. We analyze the error caused by the approximation that the saturation function with memory treated as a pure saturation function. We propose a new tuning formula for PID controller which can be applied a saturation function having memory with an arbitrary memory size. We show that the proposed method is more accurate than that of the approximation method via an example.

  • Several new modulators using Voltage Variable Capacitance Diode are discribed. It was investigated that amplitude modulation which does not need modulation power is obtained by mdulation VVC diode as a tuning element of the quartz oscillator circuit. It offers a good AM system for carryphones in the citizen bands. While frequency modulated quartz oscillators coupled with a quarter wave network were tested as a wide band frequency modulator, Hartley type transistor oscillator offers the most stable and reproducibel FM quartz oscillator.

  • The Ultra-miniature and low phase noise Colpitts VCO of 0.06㏄ in size has been developed using the high Q resonator and phase compensation technique. This type is one transistor VCO without a buffer. To design and simulate the VCO accurately, nolinear model parameters of a bipolar transistor are extracted using the measured I-V data and S parameters based on the Gummel-Poon model. Design and simulation have been done by Serenade 7.5 design tool using the extracted nonlinear model parameters. The wideband VCO has been designed using two varactor diodes and open loop gain compensation technique to improve the operating frequency range. The ultra-miniature VCO has shown the phase noise of -91㏈c/Hz at 10KHz offset and output power of -3㏈m The wideband VCO has shown the tuning frequency bandwidth of 150MHz phase noise of -95㏈c/Hz at 10KHz offset and output power of 5㏈m.

  • A 2㎓, low noise, low power CMOS voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) with an integrated LC resonator is presented. The design of VCO relies heavily on the on-chip spiral inductor. An optimized spiral inductor with Q-factor of nearly 8 is achieved and used for the VCO. The simulated result of phase noise is as low as -l14 ㏈c/Hz at an offset frequency of a 600KHz from a 2㎓ carrier frequency. The VCO is tuned with standard available junction capacitors, resulting in an about 400MHz tuning range (20%). Implemented in a five-metal 0.25${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ standard CMOS process, the VCO consumes only 2㎽ from a single 2.5V supply. It occupies an active area of 620${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$$\times$720${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.

  • This paper presents a new velocity estimation strategy of a non-salient permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) drive without high frequency signal injection or special PWM pattern. This approach is based on the d-axis current regulator output voltage of the drive system which has the information of rotor position error. The rotor velocity can be estimated through a rotor position tracking PI controller that controls the position error to zero. For zero and low speed operation, the PI gains of rotor position tracking controller have a variable structure. The PI tuning formulas are derived by analyzing this control system using the frequency domain specifications such as phase margin and bandwidth assignment.

  • With the advent of power semiconductor switching devices, power electronics relating to high frequency electromagnetic eddy current based induction heating technology have become more suitable and acceptable. This paper presents high-frequency induction heating cooking appliance circuit based on the zero current switching-PWM single ended push-pull(ZCS-PWM SEPP) resonant inverter added AC-DC converter. This inverter uses pulse-width-modulation(PWM) control method with active auxiliary quasi-resonant lossless inductor snubbers and a switched capacitor. To improved the transient performance, the PI controller is applied for this system. For the systematic parameter optimization of the PI controller, the gradient-based optimization algorithm is applied. The performance of optimized parameters is evaluated using simulation and experimental test. These results show that the proposed systematic optimal tuning method improve the transient performances of this system.
