  • Eco-friendly mountain railways operate on concrete rack tracks embedded on existing sharp curved and steep roads to preserve the environment in mountainous areas. Owing to the narrow roads, single lines are inevitable, and many branches are required. In branches, previous switchers and heating devices cannot be applied, because of the limited spacing for the rack and the slow removal of thick ice. To solve these problems, a switch and a heating device have been developed. The switcher changes the line by moving the block of concrete track with hydraulic actuators. The lack of discontinuity reduces the derailment risk and makes locking simple. The heating device uses high frequency induction coils to increase the efficiency and melt the thick ice rapidly. The prototype switcher and heating device were produced and operated to prove their performance. The heating device yielded a 10 times greater efficiency than the previous one. The switcher and heating device are the essential core technologies for the operation of mountain trams in winter and contribute to the spread of mountain railways to domestic or foreign resort areas by enhancing safety and efficiency. In addition, they can provide transportation rights to local residents in poor winter traffic, and bring about tourism and local economic growth.

  • This paper presents a new dual-loop Delay Locked Loop(DLL) to expand the delay lock range of a conventional DLL. The proposed dual-loop DLL contains a Coarse_loop and a Fine_loop, and its operation utilizes one of the loops selected by comparing the initial time-difference among the reference clock and 2 internal clocks. The 2 internal clock signals are taken, respectively, at the midpoint and endpoint of a VCDL and thus are $180^{\circ}$ separated in phase. When the proposed DLL is out of the conventional lock range, the Coarse_loop is selected to push the DLL in the conventional lock range and then the Fine_loop is used to complete the locking process. Therefore, the proposed DLL is always stably locked in unless it is harmonically false-locked. Since the VCDL employed in the proposed DLL needs two control voltages to adjust the delay time, it uses TG-based inverters, instead of conventional, multi-stacked, current-starved inverters, to compose the delay line. The new VCDL provides a wider delay range than a conventional VCDL In overall, the proposed DLL demonstrates a more than 2 times wider lock range than a conventional DLL. The proposed DLL circuits have been designed, simulated and proved using 0.18um, 1.8V TSMC CMOS library and its operation frequency range is 100MHz${\sim}$1GHz. Finally, the maximum phase error of the DLL locked in at 1GHz is less than 11.2ps showing a high resolution and the simulated power consumption is 11.5mW.

  • Purpose : To analyze the clinical results of treatment for the osteochondritis dissecans of femoral condyle by age, the type of lesion and method of treatment. Methods : From March 1991 to February 2000, 17 patients (20 cases) with osteochondritis dissecans of the femoral condyle were followed up over 1 year. Three patients had bilateral lesion. There were 12 cases with trauma history (9 cases with sports injury and 3 cases with direct trauma). The initial symptoms were pain, clicking, locking, giving way in the order of frequency, pain was revealed in all cases. Clinical evaluation of IKDC and Hughston method were used for subjective and objective function. Results : The number of male patient was 12, and the mean age was 19.8 year old (11$\~$50). The location of the lesion was 14 cases in medial femoral condyle and 6 cases in lateral femoral condyle. The arthroscopic findings of the lesion in 15 cases were as follows, early separation in 6 cases, partially detachment in 4 cases, and crators and complete detachment in 5 cases. 5 cases were treated with mutiple drilling and 5 cases with Herbert screw fixation, 3 cases with Herbert screw fixation and bone graft. In early stage, 7 cases were treated with conservative method. In the grading of Hughston score, 6 cases were graded as excellent, 9 cases as good, 15 cases were graded as good to excellent. Based on the IKDC scale, 1 case was graded as normal, 6 as nearly normal, and 10 as abnormal. Conclusions : The trauma seemed to be important factor in occurrence of osteochondritis dissecans of the femoral condyle. The clinical results of juvenile period showed better than adolescence and adult period, it is necessary to detect the lesion as soon as possible. The result of subjective evaluation was worse than the Hughston evaluation. It was caused by limiting involvement of sports activity and limited activity in the adolescence.
