Empirical Modeling of Steering System for Autonomous Vehicles

  • To design an automatic steering controller with high performance for autonomous vehicle, it is necessary to have a precise model of the lateral dynamics with respect to the steering command input. This paper presents an empirical modeling of the steering system for an autonomous vehicle. The steering system here is represented by three individual transfer function models: a steering wheel actuator model from the steering command input to the steering angle of the shaft, a dynamic model between the steering angle and the yaw rate of the vehicle, and a dynamic model between the steering command and the lateral deviation of vehicle. These models are identified using frequency response data. Experiments were performed using a real vehicle. It is shown that the resulting identified models have been well fitted to the experimental data.

미소 비대칭 링의 맥놀이 지도 (Beat Maps of a Slightly Asymmetric Ring)

  • Analytical model of beat response is derived on a slightly asymmetric ring and the model is veryfied by experiment. The asymmetric ring is a simplified model used to explain the beat property of a Korean bell. The asymmetric ring has mode pairs having slight frequency difference in each radial mode. Each mode pair produces beat phenomenon by the interaction of the two close frequency components. Based on the analytical model, beat maps are first proposed and characteristics of beat on the circumference are detaily explained.

  • 2 axis gimbals systems are extensively used in various tracking devices for attaining the system's objective. Designers are sometimes passing over the dynamic characteristics of system in vibrating condition In this paper, 2 axis gimbals systems including interface elements is modeled with finite elements. To verify this model, the finite element model is refined by using the experimental model data. The refined model is simulated with I-DEAS and MSC.NATRAN's FRF(Frequency response Function) and RRA(Random vibration Response Analysis) function to get dynamic characteristics of 2 axis gimbals system.

  • 본 연구에서는 공압형 인공근육으로 이루어진 회전관절의 동적 특성을 파악하기 위해서 두 개의 공압형 인공근육으로 이루어진 상극구동 시스템의 주파수 응답특성실험을 수행하였다. 인공근육의 작동범위에서 수행한 주파수 응답결과에 최적으로 근사할 수 있는 선형모델을 추정하고 이를 이용하여 회전관절의 움직임을 정밀하게 제어할 수 있는 모델에 기초한 제어법칙을 제시하였다. 사각파, 정현파 기준궤적에 대한 회전관절의 추종실험을 수행한 결과 선형 추정모델에 의한 보상효과와 피드벡 이득에 의한 추종오차 제거효과를 통해서 우수한 궤적 추정성능을 보였다.

  • The spectrum of impulse response signal from an impulse hammer testing is widely used to obtain frequency response function (FRF) of the structure. However the FRFs obtained from impact hammer testing have not only leakage errors but also finite record length errors when the record length for the signal processing is not sufficiently long. The errors cannot be removed with the conventional signal analyzer which treats the signals as if they are always steady and periodic. Since the response signals generated by the impact hammer are transient and have damping, they are undoubtedly non-periodic. It is inevitable that the signals be acquired for limited recording time, which causes the finite record length error and the leakage error. In this paper, the errors in the frequency response function of multi degree of freedom system are formulated theoretically. And the method to remove these errors is also suggested. This method is based on the optimization technique. A numerical example of 3-dof model shows the validity of the proposed method.

  • We have investigated equivalent-circuit analysis of organic light-emitting diodes using frequency-dependent response of $ITO/Alq_3(60nm)/Al$ device at two different bias voltages. Complex impedance Z of the device was measured in the frequency range of 40Hz~1MHz. A Cole-Cole plot shows that there are two dielectric relaxations at the bias below turn-on voltage, and one relaxation at the bias above turn-on voltage. We are able to interpret the frequency-dependent response in terms of equivalent-circuit model of contact resistance $R_s$ in series with parallel combination of resistance $R_p$ and capacitance $C_p$. We have obtained contact resistance $R_s$ around $90{\Omega}$, mainly from the ITO anode.

  • The natural frequency measurement of passenger car tire under the load and rotation are studied. In order to obtain theoretical natural frequency and mode shape, the plane vibration of a tire is modeled to that of circular beam. By using the Tickling method based on Hamilton's principle, theoretical results are determined by considering tension force due to tire inflation pressure, rotational velocity and tangential, radial stiffness. Modal parameters varying the inflation pressure, load, rotational velocity are determined experimentally by using frequency response function method. The results show that experimental conditions are parameter for shifting of natural frequency.

  • The measurement of radial directional natural frequency ina passenger car tire rotating under the load is studied. In order to obtain theoretical matural frequency and mode shape, the ploane vibration of a tire is modeled to that of circular beam. By esing the Tieking method based on Hamiltons's principle, theoretical results are determined by considering tension horce due to tire inflation pressure, retational velocity and tangential, radial stiffness. Radial directional modal parameters varying with the inflation pressure, load, rotational velocity are experimentally determined by using frequency response function method. The results show that experimental conditions canbe considered as the parameters which shift the natural frequency.

  • 주행중인 차량의 동적 거동에 대한 응답을 해석하기 위하여 시간영역에서 뿐만 아니라 주파수 영역에서의 해석이 필요하다. 주파수 영역에서의 해석을 위하여 시간영역에서의 값을 FFT를 이용하여 주파수 영역으로 변화하는 방법이 일반적으로 사용되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 최대 엔트로피 방법을 이용하여 기존의 FFT 방법보다 차량의 과도응답특성을 시간영역 및 주파수 영역에서 편리하게 해석할 수 있는 방법을 제시하고 있다.

Two-dimensional energy transmitting boundary in the time domain

  • The energy-transmitting boundary, which is used in the well-known finite element method (FEM) program FLUSH, is quite efficient for the earthquake response analysis of buildings considering soil-structure interaction. However, it is applicable only in the frequency domain. The author proposed methods for transforming frequency dependent impedance into the time domain, and studied the time domain transform of the boundary. In this paper, first, the estimation methods for both the halfspace condition under the bottom of the soil model and the pseudo three-dimensional effect were studied with the time domain transmitting boundary. Next, response behavior when using the boundary was studied in detail using a practical soil and building model. The response accuracy was compared with those using viscous boundary, and the boundary that considers the excavation force. Through these studies, the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed time domain transmitting boundary were confirmed.
