Service Block Based Resource Allocation Scheme for Macrocell-Femtocell Networks

  • The heterogeneous LTE (Long Term Evolution)-Advanced networks comprising a macrocell and femtocells can provide an efficient solution not only to extend macrocell coverage but also to deal with packet traffics increasing explosively within macrocells. An efficient resource management scheme is necessary to maintain the QoS (Quality of Service) of mobile multimedia services because the LTE-Advanced system should support not only voice but also mobile applications such as data, image and video. This paper proposes a resource management scheme to guarantee QoS continuity of multimedia services and to maximize the resource utilization in OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) based LTE-Advanced systems. This scheme divides the resources into several service blocks and allocates those resources based on the competition between macrocell and femtocell. Simulation results show that it provides better performances than the conventional one in respect of handover failure rate and blocking rate.

Adaptive Resource Allocation for MC-CDMA and OFDMA in Reconfigurable Radio Systems

  • This paper studies the uplink resource allocation for multiple radio access (MRA) in reconfigurable radio systems, where multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) multicarrier-code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) and MIMO orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) networks coexist. By assuming multi-radio user equipment with network-guided operation, the optimal resource allocation for MRA is analyzed as a cross-layer optimization framework with and without fairness consideration to maximize the uplink sum-rate capacity. Numerical results reveal that parallel MRA, which uses MC-CDMA and OFDMA networks concurrently, outperforms the performance of each MC-CDMA and OFDMA network by exploiting the multiuser selection diversity.

  • We propose a two-stage resource allocation algorithm for the high link utilization of an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing passive optical network (OFDM-PON). An OFDM-PON is assumed to use a synchronous frame structure in supporting service differentiation. In distributing resources, the proposed algorithm first allocates a time window for each optical network unit (ONU), and then it arranges a subchannel, which is a group of subcarriers. This algorithm needs to satisfy two constraints. First, computations for the resource allocation should be done using a frame unit. Second, an ONU has to use a single subchannel to send upstream data for multiple services within a frame duration. We show through a computer simulation that the proposed algorithm improves the link utilization.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the planning styles and the differences of the level of planning styles according to individuals, family related variables and perceived adequacy of resources. The subjects of the study were 560 wives living in seoul and Daejeon. Survey methods were questionnaire. Data analysis strategies were percentile, frequency, Pearson's correlation, factor analysis, oneway analysis and multiple classification analysis. The major findings were as follows : 1) Planning styles were categorized into three factors. They were labeled resource-centered, goal-centered, constrained planning style. 2) wives tended to more frequently use a goal-centered planning style. 3) The perceived adequacy of health resource, the perceived adequacy of inter-personnal resource and occupation of husband were significant predictors of the level of resource-centered planning style. 4) The perceived adequacy of money resource was significant predictors of the level of constrained planning style. 5) The perceived adequacy of money resource and the age of youngest child were significant predictors of the level of goal-centered planning style.

  • The frequency and probability of deadlock are influential factors in the design of algorithms for deadlock. However, little work has been done in this area because it's not easy to analyze how factors such as the characteristics of process or resource, resource request and release patterns, or the number of process affect the occurrence of deadlock. This study was designed to reduce remarkably the number of state by adapting the model 'state (a,b)t' to represent the resource allocation state, as well as to include the effect of resource error rate and recovery rate in the system analysis. Various formulas about deadlock occurrence were resulted in this study such as the average time interval of deadlock, the probability that a process requesting a resource waits or deadlocks, and the probability that a request deadlocks in a cycle of length 2.

  • In this paper, we investigate a dynamic spectrum sharing problem for the centralized uplink cognitive radio networks using orthogonal frequency division multiple access. We formulate a large-scale joint rate and power allocation as an optimization problem under quality of service constraint for secondary users and interference constraint for primary users. We also suggest admission control to nd a feasible solution to the optimization problem. To implement the resource allocation on a large-scale, we introduce a notion of using the conservative factors $\alpha$ and $\beta$ depending on the outage and violation probabilities. Since estimating instantaneous channel gains is costly and requires high complexity, the proposed algorithm pursues a practical and implementation-friendly resource allocation. Simulation results demonstrate that the large-scale joint rate and power allocation incurs a slight loss in system throughput over the instantaneous one, but it achieves lower complexity with less sensitivity to variations in shadowing statistics.

  • PB/MC-CDMA is an efficient system which divides the whole frequency band into several blocks, unlike a conventional MC-CDMA system. We propose an efficient resource allocation scheme in Multi-Block PB/MC-CDMA (Partial Block Multi-Carrier Code Division Multiple Access). This system aims to improve frequency efficiency and maximize the total throughput while satisfying predefined threshold over various channel conditions. Through computer simulations, we confirm that the performance of the proposed system is more effective in terms of throughput.

Nash Bargaining Solution for RFID Frequency Interference

  • We present a fair and efficient solution for selfish readers with the Nash bargaining solution (NBS) to mitigate the effects of RFID frequency interference. We compare the NBS with a solution derived by the max log-sum scheme that maximizes total utility and show that for selfish and rational readers, the NBS brings success in bargaining on resource allocation between readers unlike the max log-sum scheme, although the NBS has less total payoff compared to the max log-sum scheme.

High frequency plant regeneration from zygotic-embryo-derived embryogenic cell suspension cultures of watershield (Brasenia schreberi)

  • An improved protocol for high frequency plant regeneration via somatic embryogenesis from zygotic embryo-derived cell suspension cultures of watershield (Brasenia schreberi) was developed. Zygotic embryos formed pale-yellow globular structures and white friable callus at a frequency of 80% when cultured on halfstrength MS medium supplemented with $0.3mg\;l^{-1}$ 2,4-D. However, the frequency of formation of pale-yellow globular structures and white friable callus decreased slightly with increasing concentrations of 2,4-D up to $3mg\;l^{-1}$, where the frequency reached ~50% of the control. Cell suspension cultures from zygotic embryoderived white friable callus were established using half-strength MS medium supplemented with $0.3mg\;l^{-1}$ 2,4-D. Upon plating of cell aggregates on half-strength MS basal medium, approximately 8.3% gave rise to somatic embryos and developed into plantlets. However, the frequency of plantlet development from cell aggregates was sharply increased (by up to 55%) when activated charcoal and zeatin were applied. Regenerated plantlets were successfully transplanted to potting soil and grown to normal plants in a growth chamber. The distinctive feature of this study is the establishment of a high frequency plant regeneration system via somatic embryogenesis from zygotic embryo-derived cell suspension cultures of water-shield, which has not been previously reported. The protocol for plant regeneration of watershield through somatic embryogenesis could be useful for the mass propagation and transformation of selected elite lines.

Analysis of Interference Impacts by UWB System to WiBro Systems

  • This paper evaluates the impacts for interference from UWB system, and determines the tolerable UWB power spectral density(PSD) to the new deploying system, which is called a portable internet service in Korea. It also proposes the interference analysis scheme that can evaluate the characteristics of the performance degradation for portable internet service according to the emission power of UWB systems at the specified frequency bands. The proposed scheme includes a multi-rate and data service environments to deal with interference to portable internet service. It is obtained from simulation results that the transmission PSD of UWB systems should be rigidly restricted by less approximately 10 ${\~}$ 20 dB than FCC provisional limit for coexistence between UWB and portable internet service already allocated at 2.3 GHz frequency bands in Korea.
