In this paper, two dimensional analytical infinite elements which can include multiple wave components to model a underlying half-space are developed. Since these elements are expressed clearly and simply using Legendre polynomials of frequencies in frequency domain, these are very economical and efficient in computing the responses of strip foundations in frequency domain and are easily transformed for SSI analysis in time domain. To prove the behavior of the proposed two dimensional analytical infinite elements, vertical, horizontal, and rocking compliances of a rigid strip foundation in layered soils are analyzed and compared with those of Tzong ' Penzie $n^{(17)}$ and with those which calculated by numerical infinite elemen $t^{(1)}$ in frequency domain, and good agreements are noticed between them. As an application for a further study, a new scheme for SSI analysis in time domain are proposed and verified by comparing the displacement responses of the soil with a underlying rock due to a rectangular impulse loading with those of a soil modeled extended FE meshes.soil modeled extended FE meshes.
The offshore plants such as FPSO are subjected to combination loading of environmental conditions (swell, wave, wind and current). Therefore the fatigue damage is occurred in the operation time because the units encounter the environmental phenomena and the structural configurations are complicated. This paper is a research for frequency domain fatigue analysis of wide-band random loading focused on accuracy of fatigue damage estimation regarding the proposed methods. We selected ideal bi-modal spectrum. And comparison between time-domain fatigue analysis and frequency-domain fatigue analyses are conducted through the fatigue damage ratio. Fatigue damage ratios according to Vanmarcke's bandwidth parameter are founded for wide-band. Considering safety, we recommend that Jiao-Moan and Tovo-Benasciutti methods are optimal way at the fatigue design for wide-band response. But, it is important that these methods based on frequency-domain unstably change the accuracy according to the material parameter of S-N curve. This study will be background and guidance for the new frequency-domain fatigue analysis development in the future.
Seismic qualification of instruments and devices mounted on electrical cabinets in a nuclear power plant is performed in this study by means of the in-cabinet response spectrum (ICRS). A simple method and two rigorous methods are proposed in the EPRI NP-7146-SL guidelines for generating the ICRS. The simple method of EPRI can give unrealistic spectra that are excessively conservative in many cases. In the past, the time domain analysis (TDA) methods have been mostly used to analyze a structure. However, the TDA requires the generation of an artificial earthquake input motion compatible to the target response spectrum. The process of generating an artificial earthquake may involve a great deal of uncertainty. In addition, many time history analyses should be performed to increase the accuracy of the results. This study developed a numerical analysis program for generating the ICRS by frequency domain analysis (FDA) method. The developed program was validated by the numerical study. The ICRS calculated by FDA thoroughly matched with those obtained from TDA. This study then confirms that the method it proposes can simply and efficiently generate the ICRS compared to the time domain method.
Large-sized flat-panel displays are widely used for PC monitors and TV displays. In this paper, frequency domain pre-filter algorithms are presented for detection of defects in large-sized Thin Film Transistor-Liquid Crystal Display(TFT-LCD) panel surfaces. Frequency analysis with 1-D, 2-D FFT methods for extract the periodic patterns of lattice structures in TFT-LCD is performed. To remove this patterns, frequency domain band-stop filters were used for eliminating specific frequency components. In order to acquire only defected images, 2-D inverse FFT methods to inverse transform of frequency domain images were used.
Multi-scale representations are effective in characterising the time-frequency characteristics of financial return series. They have the capability to reveal the properties not evident with typical time domain analysis. Given the aforesaid, this study derives crucial insights from multi scale analysis to investigate the co-movements between Indian and emerging Asian equity markets using wavelet correlation and wavelet coherence measures. It is reported that the Indian equity market is strongly integrated with Asian equity markets at lower frequency scales and relatively less blended at higher frequencies. On the other hand the results from cross correlations suggest that the lead-lag relationship becomes substantial as we turn to lower frequency scales and finally, wavelet coherence demonstrates that this correlation eventually grows strong in the interim of the crises period at lower frequency scales. Overall the findings are relevant and have strong policy and practical implications.
The vehicle handling performances have a close relation with the driver's safety. And the CAT(Computer aided testing) system has been introduced as a powerful tool for improving the handling performances. In this study, a CAT system for effectively measuring and analysing the handling performances is developed based on the windows GUI(Graphic user interface) environment. Especially, in order to derive a lot of significant handling performance parameters from a series of proving ground tests, the CAT system has various functions related to real time measurement, time domain analysis, frequency domain analysis, steady state analysis and so on.
Accurate actuator tracking is critical to achieve reliable real-time hybrid simulation results for earthquake engineering research. The frequency-domain evaluation approach provides an innovative way for more quantitative post-simulation evaluation of actuator tracking errors compared with existing time domain based techniques. Utilizing the Fast Fourier Transform the approach analyzes the actuator error in terms of amplitude and phrase errors. Existing application of the approach requires using the complete length of the experimental data. To improve the computational efficiency, two techniques including data decimation and frequency decimation are analyzed to reduce the amount of data involved in the frequency-domain evaluation. The presented study aims to enhance the computational efficiency of the approach in order to utilize it for future on-line actuator tracking evaluation. Both computational simulation and laboratory experimental results are analyzed and recommendations on the two decimation factors are provided based on the findings from this study.
When caissons are mounted on a floating transportation barge and towed by a tug boat in waves, motion of the floating dock creates inertia and gravity-induced slip forces on the caisson. If its magnitude exceeds the corresponding friction force between the two surfaces, a slip may occur, which can lead to an unwanted accident. In oblique waves, both pitch and roll motions occur simultaneously and their coupling effects for slip and friction forces become more complicated. With the presence of strong winds, the slip force can appreciably be increased to make the situation worse. In this regard, the safety of the transportation process of a caisson mounted on a floating dock for various wind-wave conditions is investigated. The analysis is done by both frequency-domain approach and time-domain approach, and their differences as well as pros and cons are discussed. It is seen that the time-domain approach is more direct and accurate and can include nonlinear contributions as well as viscous effects, which are typically neglected in the linear frequency-domain approach.
A subjective index of sound quality when it hit him is required since human listening is very sensitive and complex. Sound quality evaluation it leads consequently rightly in each situation and it composes a sound quality factor. But one of the levels in interest frequency range is substitute we cannot see the tendency of frequency substitute at whole that is executes a clear voice evaluation. Design of experiment is used and dividing 12 equally in frequency domain, the sound quality using sharpness and annoyance is performed by modifying each of frequency domains. Design of experiment method reduces much number experiment very effectively and each main effect of domain solution analysis, such as a case of sharpness and annoyance, the change of domain (increase and decrease of sound pressure level, or change nil) can grasp a type of effect should have influenced to a sound quality, and it will be able to select the objective frequency domain which hits to the sound quality. Through these obtained results the physical changes of level at arbitrary frequency domain sensitivity can be adapted.
Application of digital filter to the wave analysis is studied using the observed data by wave gauge. Sea wave data obtained from wave gauge always include long wave frequency components. In order to estimate the sea wave parameters, we must re-analyzed wave data by using a digital filter and the concept of mean sea level correction method. By the wave by wave analysis and spectral methods, sea wave parameters on the basis of wave data obtained by the conventional method and digital filter are compared. The best-fitted design filter determined by the necessary conditions of frequency responses, can be obtained by calculating various transfer functions. Thus, to get the best the digital filter design, both Butterworth filter and Savitzky-Golay filter of digital filter are used in the frequency and time domain, respectively. Three cases of observation wave data are calculated by applying digital filter. The components of different frequency bands in the surf zone are coexisted in three cases. The wave data for wind wave components is computed using the digital filter the surf zone and off-surf zone, and based on the filtered data, wave parameters are calculated by the spectral analysis and wave by wave analysis methods, respectively. As a results, when sea wave data observed by wave gauge are analyzed, the Savitzky-Golay method is recommended which can well appear cut-off frequency by experimental choosing filter length in the time domain. The better mean sea level correction method is the Butterworth filter in the frequency domain.
