Domestic area of most be happened chloride deicer damage. Because daily mean temperature is below 0$^{\circ}C$ from the area of domestic most. Concrete durability influence Air Content. Presently, We used to AE(air-entraining agent) for increase freeze-thaw durability. So, on concrete Air Spacing ratio used $200{\mu}m{\sim}230{\mu}m$ in Canada and under $250{\mu}m$ in Japan institution. Use of Air content has been and will continue to be a major part of concrete durability and scaling. Chloride-containing chemicals such as calcium chloride or rock salt are main deicers for the road. The prepared optimum mix concrete in this study show that freeze-thaw and scaling resistance of Non-AE(air content 1.5%) and AE (air content 4.5%, 7.2%). Solution concentrations of deicing agent were good result, and the pore system and change of hydration products is not difference comparing before freeze-thaw test.

In this study the relative dynamic modulus and surface rebound hardness measurement methods were used for comparison to predict the occurrence of frost dam age on the concrete. From the test results, it was observed that the initiation of concrete dam age predicted by surface rebound hardness values was 200 cycles quicker than that of the relative dynamic modulus method in the W/C 70 specimens. In addition, it continuously provided data that showed the frost damage development of concrete surfaces according to increasing freeze-thaw cycles. This indicated that the frost dam age of the concrete could be found from the initial point of its occurrence by the surface rebound hardness measurement method. Similar results were also observed in W/C 60 and 50 specimens. Therefore, it is considered that surface rebound hardness method predicted the freeze-thaw damage well, regardless of water-cement ratio.
A new system of modified freeze-thaw testing apparatus is introduced. This system is developed to evaluate the geotechnical parameters and their dependence upon freezing-thawing history of frost-susceptibility soil. A necessary condition for stationary frost heaving is clarified in this paper. The method changes the thermal boundary condition up to the net heat flow at the freezing frost becomes zero. The effectiveness of this method is verified by freeze-thaw tests. Frost heaving observed after the application of the method is found to be due to another frost heaving action called long-term frost heaving. This frost heaving has already been studied and is considered ignorable as engineering factor because of its small heaving amount.
This paper investigated the influence of binary and ternary blends of mineral admixtures in self-compacted mortar (SCM) on the fresh, mechanical and durability properties. For this purpose, 25 mortar mixtures were prepared having a total binder content of $640kg/cm^3$ and water/binder ratio between 0.41 and 0.50. All the mixtures consisted of Portland cement (PC), fly ash (FA) and silica fume (SF) as binary and ternary blends and air-entrained admixture wasn't used while control mixture contained only PC. The compressive and tensile strength tests were conducted for 28 and 91 days as well as slump-flow and V-funnel time tests whilst freeze-thaw (F-T) resistance and capillary water absorption tests were made for 91-day. Finally, in general, the use of SF with FA as ternary blends improved the tensile strength of mortars at 28- and 91-day while the use of SF15 with FA increased the compressive strength of the mortars compared to binary blends of FA. SCM mixtures with ternary blends had lower the sorptivity values than that of the mortars with binary blends of FA and the control mixture due to the beneficial properties of SF while the use of FA with SF as ternary blends induced the F-T resistance enhancement.
As a principle ingredient in omija-eui, the physicochemical properties of mung bean starch (MBS) paste were investigated and compared to those of rice and corn starch. The amylose and the protein content of MBS were higher than those of rice or corn starch while the total sugar content and the swelling power of MBS were lower. In addition, the clarity of MBS paste was higher than either rice or corn starch paste. Regarding pasting properties, the peak viscosity and cool paste viscosity of MBS were higher than those of either rice or corn starch. During the freeze-thaw cycle, MBS exhibited higher degree of syneresis than corn and rice starch, which decreased with high starch concentration and heating temperature. The paste properties and freeze-thaw stability of MBS showed a potential for improving the quality of omija-eui.
Concrete is one of the most widely used construction materials in the world. Producing economical and durable concrete is possible by employing pozzolanic materials. The aim of this study is to underline the possibility of the utilization of natural zeolite in producing concrete and investigate its effects basically on the strength and durability of concrete. In the production of concrete mixes, Portland cement was replaced by the natural zeolite at ratios of 0%, 10%, 15%, and 20% by weight. Concretes were produced with total binder contents of $300kg/m^3$ and $400kg/m^3$, but with a constant water to cement ratio of 0.60. In addition to compressive and flexural strength measurements, freeze-thaw and high temperature resistance measurements, rapid chloride permeability, and capillary water absorption tests were performed on the concrete mixes. Compared to the rest mixes, concrete mixes containing 10% zeolite yielded in with the highest compressive and flexural strengths. The rapid chloride permeability and the capillary measurements were decreased as the natural zeolite replacement was increased. Freeze-thaw resistance also improved significantly as the replacement ratio of zeolite was increased. Under the effect of elevated temperature, natural zeolite incorporated concretes with lower binder content yielded higher compressive strength. However, the compressive strengths of concretes with higher binder content after elevated temperature effect were found to be lower than the reference concrete.
The glacial tills and shales in Midwestern states of the USA often show strength degradation after construction. They are often in need of applying soil modification techniques to remediate their strength degradation with weathering process. This study investigated the weathering durability of these natural soils and biopolymer treated soils by comparing direct shear test results for wet-dry and wet-freeze-thaw-dry cycled specimens. The tests showed that untreated glacial tills maintained only 62% and 50% initial shear strength after eight wet-dry cycles and eight wet-freeze-thaw-dry cycles, respectively. These untreated soils could not withstand by themselves after 16 weathering cycles. The same soils treated with 1.5% (by dry weight) food-grade Xanthan gum maintained 140% and 88% initial shear strength of untreated soils after 16 weathering cycles for wet-dry cycles and wet-freeze-thaw-dry cycles, respectively. The same soils treated with 1.5% (by dry weight) Gellan gum maintained 82% and 60% initial shear strength of untreated ones after 16 weathering cycles, respectively. Similar results were obtained for crushed shales, manifesting that the biopolymerization method may be adopted as a new eco-friendly method to enhance the weathering durability of these problematic soils of glacial tills and shales.

PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to evaluate moisture susceptibility of a dense graded and an open graded asphalt mixtures by the method of AASHTO T-283. METHODS : To simulate moisture damage of asphalt pavements with continuously rainfall during summer rainy season, the dense graded and the open graded asphalt mixtures were immersed in water for 15 days and were measured the weight and the change of strength. Also, the mixtures were performed five freeze-thaw cycles to simulate moisture damage of the mixtures by freeze-thaw during winter and were measured the change of strength. The degradation characteristics model was used to analyze the relationship between strength and moisture damage. RESULTS : According to the results, the dense graded and the open graded asphalt mixtures were shown in the similar trends of the strength changes by immersion time and freeze-thaw cycle. However, the moisture damage reduction of open graded asphalt mixture was more sensitive in early phase than that of dense graded asphalt mixture.
PURPOSES: The scaling of a concrete surface caused by the combined effects of frost and de-icing salts is one of the main reasons for the need to repair transportation infrastructures in cold-climate regions. This study describes the results of attempts to determine the scaling resistance of concrete incorporating mineral admixtures such as fly ash, GGBFS, and silica fume, and subjected to the actions of frost and salt. METHODS : Conventionally, to evaluate the fundamental properties of concrete, flexural and compressive strength measurements are regularly performed. Based on the ASTM C 672 standard, concrete is subjected to 2%, 4%, and 8% $CaCl_2$ salt solutions along with repeated sets of 50 freeze/thaw cycles, and the scaling resistance was evaluated based on the mass of the scale and a visual examination. RESULTS : It was observed that silica fume is very effective in enhancing the scaling resistance of concrete. Meanwhile, concrete incorporating GGBFS exhibited poor resistance to scaling, especially in the first ten freeze/thaw cycles. However, fly ash concrete generally exhibited the maximum amount of damage as a result of the frost-salt attack, regardless of the concentrations of the solutions. CONCLUSIONS: It can be concluded that the scaling resistance of concrete is highly dependent on the type of the mineral admixture used in the concrete. Therefore, to provide a durable concrete pavement for use in cold-climate regions, the selection of a suitable binder is essential.
In order to study the effect of rubber particle size and admixture on the frost resistance of self-compacting concrete, three self-compacting concrete specimens with equal volume replacement of fine aggregate by rubber particles of different particle sizes were prepared, while conventional self-compacting concrete was made as a comparison specimen. The degradation law of rubber aggregate self-compacted concrete under freeze-thaw cycles was investigated by fast-freezing method test. The results show that the rubber aggregate has some influence on the mechanical properties and freeze-thaw durability of the self-compacting concrete. With the increase of rubber aggregate, the compressive strength of self-compacting concrete gradually decreases, and the smaller the rubber aggregate particle size is, the smaller the effect on the compressive strength of the matrix; rubber aggregate can improve the frost resistance of self-compacting concrete, and the smaller the rubber particle size is, the more obvious the effect on the improvement of the frost resistance of the matrix under the same dosage. Through the research of this paper, it is recommended to use 60~80 purpose rubber aggregate and the substitution rate of 10% is chosen as the best effect.
