In computer-aided geometric modeling(CAGD), subdivision surfaces are frequently employed to construct free-form surfaces. In the present study, Loop scheme and Catmull-Clark scheme are applied to generate smooth surfaces. To be consistent with the limit points of target surface, the initial sampling points are properly rearranged. The pointwise errors of curvature and position in the sequence of subdivision process are evaluated in both Loop scheme & Catmull-Clark subdivision scheme. In partcural, a general subdivision method in order to generate considering extraordinary points are implemented free from surface with arbitrary sampling point information.

Gouge-free tool-path generation is an important issue in mold & die machining and researches on cutter interference avoidance can be found in many articles. One of the various methods is construction of tool-offlet surface or cutter-location (CL) surface on which the cutter-center point (CL-point) locates. Provided that the CL surface is represented in a suitable form, cutter-interference avoidance can be performed without the burden of computing CL data for every cutter-contact (CC) point. In the paper, various methods of constructing a CL surface in the z-map form are presented, where z-map is a special form of discrete nonparametric representation in which the height values at grid points on the xy-plane are stored as a 2D array z[i,j].

Shape-from-shading (SFS) or stereo vision algorithms can be utilized to measure the shape of an object with imaging techniques for effective sensing in non-contact measurements. SFS algorithms could reconstruct the 3D information from a 2D image data, offering relatively comprehensive information. Meanwhile, a stereo vision algorithm needs several feature points or lines to extract 3D information from two 2D images. However, to measure the size of an object with a freeform surface, the two algorithms need some additional information, such as boundary conditions and grids, respectively. In this study, a stereo vision scheme using the depth information obtained by shape-from-shading as patterns was proposed to measure the size of an object with a freeform surface. The feasibility of the scheme was proved with an experiment where the images of an object were acquired by a CCD camera at two positions, then processed by SFS, and finally by stereo matching. The experimental results revealed that the proposed scheme could recognize the size and shape of freeform surface fairly well.
In this study, the generation of oxygen-free gas using catalytic combustion for industrial applications is explained ; heat treatment and copper annealing. For the experiment, Pd catalysts were determined by testing their catalytic activities over LPG in a micro-reactor. Combustion characteristics for the generation of oxygen-free atmospheric gas and the effect of flue gas upon surface oxidation were estimated form this experiment. As a result of the experimental investigation, we can state that the catalytic combustion could generate oxygen-free atmospheric gas suitable for industrial applications, but vapor produced by combustion process must be carefully considered as a new factor of surface oxidation.
The surface of rutile titania nanoparticles was chemically modified by reacting with alkoxy silane. The surface and rheological properties in silicone oil having a wide range of viscosity were investigated. Total surface free energy($\gamma_S$) of the titania particles decreased from 53.12 to 26.94 mJ/$m^2$ as the silane used for surface treatment was increased from 0 to 5.0 wt$\%$. The surface free energy of neat silane was 25.5 mJ/$m^2$, which is quite close to that oftitania particles treated with 5.0 wt$\%$ silane. Due to the hydrophobic nature oftreated-titania, the contact angle was accordingly higher for polar solvent in the order of water>ethylene glycol> formamide>$\alpha$-bromonaphthalene. In sum of rheological behavior, as the applied shear stress or viscosity of the silicone oil increased, the titania particles tend to form layers and agglomerated clusters, showing shear-thinning and shear-thickening behaviors, sequentially. A good dispersion of discrete titania particles obeying a Newtonian flow behavior was achieved at a surface energy or low concentration of silane-treated titania particles in hydrophobic silicone oil.

A surface panel method treating a boundary-value problem of the Dirichlet type is presented to design a three dimensional body with free surface corresponding to a prescribed pressure distribution. An integral equation is derived from Green's theorem, giving a relation between total potential of known strength and the unknown local flux. Upon discretization, a system of linear simultaneous equations is formed including free surface boundary condition and is solved for an assumed geometry. The pseudo local flux, present due to the incorrect positioning of the assumed geometry, plays a role f the geometry corrector, with which the new geometry is computed for the next iteration. Sample designs for submerged spheroids and Wigley hull and carried out to demonstrate the stable convergence, the effectiveness and the robustness of the method. For the calculation of the wave resistance, normal dipoles and Rankine sources are distributed on the body surface and Rankine sources on the free surface. The free surface boundary condition is linearized with respect to the oncoming flow. Four-points upwind finite difference scheme is used to compute the free surface boundary condition. A hyperboloidal panel is adopted to represent the hull surface, which can compensate the defects of the low-order panel method. The design of a 5500TEU container carrier is performed with respect to reduction of the wave resistance. To reduce the wave resistance, calculated pressure on the hull surface is modified to have the lower fluctuation, and is applied as a Dirichlet type dynamic boundary condition on the hull surface. The designed hull form is verified to have the lower wave resistance than the initial one not only by computation but by experiment.
The localized surface-plasmon resonance has drawn great attention, due to its unique optical properties. In this work a general theoretical description of the dipole mode is proposed, using the forced damped harmonic oscillator model of free charges in an ellipsoid. The restoring force and driving force are derived in the quasistatic approximation under general conditions. In this model, metal is regarded as composed of free charges and bound charges. The bound charges form the dielectric background which has a dielectric function. Those free charges undergo a collective motion in the dielectric background under the driving force. The response of free charges will not be included in the dielectric function like the Drude model. The extinction and scattering cross sections as well as the damping coefficient from our model are verified to be consistent with those based on the Drude model. We introduce size effects and modify the restoring and driving forces by adding the dynamic depolarization factor and the radiation damping term to the depolarization factor. This model provides an intuitive physical picture as well as a simple theoretical description of the dipole mode of the localized surface-plasmon resonance based on free-charge collective motion.

The ball-end milling process is widely used in the die/mold industries, and it is very suitable for the machining of free-form surfaces. However, this process is inherently inefficient process to compared with the end-milling or face milling process, since it relays upon the machining at the cutter/surface contact point. The machined part is the result of continuous point-to-point machining on the free-form surface. And cusps (or scallops) remain at the machined part along the cutter paths and they give the geometrical roughness of the workpiece. Thus, for the good geometrical roughness of the workpiece, it is required very tightly spaced cutter paths in this ball-endmilling process. However, with the tight cutter paths, the geometrical roughness of the workpiece is not regular on the workpiece since the cusp height is variable in the previously developed ISO-parametric or Cartesian machining methods. This paper suggests a method of tool path generation which makes the geometrical roughness of workpiece be constant through the machined surface. In this method, Ferguson Surface design Model is used and cusp height is derived from the instantaneous curvatures. And, to have constant cusp height, an increment of parameter u or v is estimated along the reference cutter path. In ball-end milling experiments, the cusp pattern was examined, and it was proved that the geometrical roughness could be regular by suggested tool path generation method.
