The processor allocation problem in mesh multicamputers is to recognize and locate a free submesh that can accommodate a request for a submesh of a specified size. An efficient submesh allocation strategy is required for achieving high performance on mesh multicomputers. In this paper, we propose a new best-fit submesh allocation strategy for mesh multicomputers. The proposed strategy maintains and uses a free submesh list to get global information for free submeshes. For an allocation request the proposed strategy tries to allocate a best-fit submesh which causes the least amount of potential processor fragmentation so as to preserve the large free submeshes as many as possible for later requests. For this purpose, we introduce a novel function for quantifying the degree of potential fragmentation of submeshes. The proposed strategy has the complete submesh recognition capability. Extensive simulation is carried out t compare the proposed strategy with the previous strategies and experimental results indicate that the proposed strategy exhibits the best performance along with about 10% to 30% average improvement over the best previous strategy.
In introducing emissions trading schemes, many countries start with a high level of free allocation to reduce the sudden cost burden on companies and increase acceptance of the policy. The free allocation is then gradually reduced, considering the risks of carbon leakage. This aligns with the "polluter pays" principle and is often considered one of the elements of an advanced emissions trading scheme. In this context, this study uses a simple emissions trading market model to show that decreasing the free allocation rate may not be desirable if the emissions market is not perfectly competitive. In particular, by identifying the existence of a free allocation rate at which the cost inefficiency is minimized, this study demonstrates that having a low level of free allocation does not necessarily imply the improvement of the emissions trading scheme.

This paper proposes a real-time dynamic storage allocation algorithm QSHF(quick-segregated-half-fit) that provides various memory allocation policies. that manages a free block list per each word size for memory requests of small size good(segregated)-fit policy that manages a free list per proper range size for medium size requests and half-fit policy that manages a free list per proper range size for medium size requests and half-fit policy that manages a free list per each power of 2 size for large size requests. The proposed algorithm has the time complexit O(1) and makes us able to easily estimate the worst case execution time(WCET). This paper also suggests two algorithm that finds the proper free list for the requested memory size in predictable time and if the found list is empty then finds next available non-empty free list in fixed time. In order to confirm efficiency of the proposed algorithm we simulated the memory utilization of each memory allocation policy. The simulation result showed that each policy guarantees the constant WCET regardless of memory size but they have trade-off between memory utilization and list management overhead.
In this paper we consider continuous block allocation scheme of UNIX file system to support real time retrieval service. The proposed block allocation scheme is designed to place real time data at appropriate disk block location in considering the consume-rate that is given with real time data. To effectively determine the disk block location we analyze the relationship between consume-rate and the two variable factors that are the number of continuous blocks and the cylinder distance of logically consecutive data. In traditional UNIX block allocation scheme it is in fact impossible to find continuous free disk blocks in a specific cylinder location. Thus we propose new bitmap-based free block allocation scheme that enables to determine whether a block in specific cylinder location is free state, or not.

In this paper, we present a new generalized k-Tree-based (CU/PE) allocation model to perform dynamic resource (CU/PE) allocation/deallocation decision for the reconfigurable MSIMD/MIMD multi-dimensional (k-D) mesh-connected architectures. Those reconfigurable multi-SIMD/MIMD systems allow dynamic modes of executing tasks, which are SIMD and MIMD. The MIMD task requires only the free sub-system; however the SIMD task needs not only the free sub-system but also the corresponding free CU. In our new k-Tree-based (CU/PE) allocation model, we introduce two best-fit heuristics for the CU allocation decision: 1) the CU depth first search (CU-DFS) in O(kN$_{f}$ ) time and 2) the CU adjacent search (CU-AS) in O(k2$^{k}$ ) time. By the simulation study, the system performance of these two CU allocation strategies was also investigated. Our simulation results showed that the CU-AS and CU-DFS strategies performed the same system performance when applied for the reconfigurable MSIMD/MIMD 2-D and 3-D mesh-connected architectures.

In this paper, we propose a new submesh allocation scheme which improves the performance of multicomputer systems. The key idea of this allocation scheme is to reduce waiting time of task by minimizing the submesh search time and the submesh a]location delay caused by external fragmentation. This scheme reduces the submesh search time by classifying independent free submeshes according to their types (square, horizontal rectangle, vertical rectangle) and searching a best-fit submesh from the classified free submesh list. If a submesh allocation delay occurs due to external fragmentation, the proposed scheme relocates tasks, executing In allocated submeshes, to another free submeshes and compacts processor fragmentation. This results in reducing the submesh allocation delay. Through simulation, we show that it is more effective to reduce the submesh allocation delay due to external fragmentation than reducing the submesh search time with respect to the waiting time of task. We also show that the proposed strategy improves the performance compared to previous strategies.

This paper presents a game theoretic approach to analyze the public goods (PGs) allocation in peer-to-peer (p2p) networks. In order to reduce the free-riders and promote the cooperation among peers, we propose an incentive mechanism with cooperation-based game theory. In this paper, we regarded the contributed resources by cooperators as public goods (PGs). We also build the PGs allocation in P2P networks to be the optimization problem, and the optimal solution of PGs allocation satisfies the Bowen-Lindahl-Samuelson equilibrium. Firstly, based on the subscriber mechanism, we analyze the feasibility and prove the validity, which can achieve Nash equilibrium. However, this strategy cannot meet to Bowen-Lindahl-Samuelson equilibrium as the free-riders do not pay with their private goods for consuming the PGs. Secondly, based on the Walker mechanism, we analyze the feasibility and prove the validity for the same allocation problem, which meets to Bowen-Lindahl-Samuelson equilibrium and achieves Pareto efficiency within cooperative game. Simulations show that the proposed walker mechanism can significantly improve the network performance of throughout, and effectively alleviate free-riding problem in P2P networks.

In OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) system that frequency reuse factor is 1, as the same channels in the neighborhood cells creates inter-cell co-channel interference which provides a resource underutilization problem, channel allocation schemes to minimize inter-cell interference have been studied. This paper proposes a new CNIR (Carrier to Noise and Interference Ratio)-based distributed Inter-cell DCA (Dynamic Channel Allocation) algorithm in the OFDMA environment with frequency reuse factor of 1. When a channel allocation is requested, if there is not a free channel in home cell or the available free channels in home cell do not satisfy a required threshold value, the proposed Inter-cell DCA algorithm finds CNIR values of available free channels in the neighborhood cells and then allocates a free channel with maximum CNIR value. Through the simulation results, we find that the proposed scheme decreases both new call block rate and forced termination rate due to new call generation at the same time because it increases channel allocation probability.
We consider resource allocation in femto-cell networks to maximize the throughput while minimizing interference to macro-users nearby. This can be achieved by allocating spectrum resource in a cognitive radio way. The proposed resource allocation is performed in two steps; spectrum sensing and resource scheduling. The femto base station detects idle frequency assignments (FAs) free from the occupation by macro-users and then allocates sub-channels in an idle FA to femto-users, effectively managing the interference problem. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified by computer simulations.

Given a video stream delivering system deployed on a multicast tree, which is embedded in a multi-channel multi-radio wireless mesh network, our problem is concerned about how to allocate interference-free channels to tree links and maximize the number of serviced mesh clients at the same time. In this paper, we propose a channel allocation heuristic algorithm based on best-first search and backtracking techniques. The experimental results show that our BFB based CA algorithm outperforms previous methods such as DFS and BFS based CA methods. This superiority is due to the backtracking technique used in BFB approach. It allows previous channel-allocated links to have feasibility to select the other eligible channels when no conflict-free channel can be found for the current link during the CA process. In addition to that, we also propose a tree refinement method to enhance the quality of channel-allocated trees by adding uncovered destinations at the cost of deletion of some covered destinations. Our aim of this refinement is to increase the number of serviced mesh clients. According to our simulation results, it is proved to be an effective method for improving multicast trees produced by BFB, BFS and DFS CA algorithms.
