  • In this study, to investigate shrinkage and cracking behavior of 120MPa UHSC, free and restrained drying shrinkage test were performed. Three strength levels(50MPa, 80MPa, 120MPa) were used and the effect of mineral admixtures(fly ash, slag) on free and restrained shrinkage was investigated. From comparing the result of pin -penetration test with the result of ring test, Time-Zero was determined as initial set. Shrinkage test results show that autogenous shrinkage of UHSC was much higher than that of HSC, VHSC and fly ash delayed cracking age in UHSC by decreasing autogenous shrinkage. Additional free concrete rings(with restraint removed) were also tested to check the influence of the geometry of the specimens on free shrinkage. And then the relationship between free shrinkage and restrained shrinkage was investigated.

  • This paper shows a study of the efficiency of expansive additive and shrinkage reducing admixture in controlling restrained shrinkage cracking of high performance concrete at early age. Free autogenous shrinkage test of $100{\times}100{\times}400mm$ concrete specimens and simulated completely-restrained test with VRTM(variable restraint testing machine) were performed. Creep and autogenous shrinkage of high-performance concrete with and without expansive additive and shrinkage reducing admixture were investigated by experiments that provided data on free autogenous shrinkage and restrained shrinkage. The results showed that the addition of expansive additive and shrinkage reducing admixture effectively reduced autogenous shrinkage and tensile stress in the restrained conditions. Also, it was found that the shrinkage stress was relaxed by 90% in high-performance concrete with and without expansive additive and shrinkage reducing admixtures at early age.

  • A drying paper strives to shrink due to the shrinkage of the individual paper fibres. Laboratory results show that a reduction of the shrinkage or an imposed stretch leads to a large increase in tensile stiffness and a large decrease in strain at break. In c cylinder drying section the water in the web is repeatedly heated on the drying cylinder and evaporated in the free draw. To evaluate the drying process regarding influence on paper properties these sub-processes, or drying phases, have to be studied separately. The effect of the conditions on the drying cylinder and on the VacRoll is investigated in pilot trails. Both the fabric tension on the drying cylinder and on the VacRoll reduces the shrinkage of the paper. The laboratory results are used as input to a numerical simulation of the conditions in the free draw. If the web width is increased or the length of the free draw is reduced the mean shrinkage of the paper web is reduced . However, the difference in shrinkage between the middle and the edge of the web is increased.

  • The aim of study was to investigate the effect of flow, specimen geometry and adhesion on the measurement of linear polymerization shrinkage of light cured composite resins using linear shrinkage measuring device. Four commercially available composites - an anterior posterior hybrid composite Z100, a posterior packable composite P60 and two flowable composites, Filtek flow and Tetric flow-were studied. The linear polymerization shrinkage of composites was determined using 'bonded disc method' and 'non-bond-ed' free shrinkage method at varying C-factor in the range of 1∼8 by changing specimen geometry. These measured linear shrinkage values were compared with free volumetric shrinkage values. The viscosity and flow of composites were determined and compared by measuring the dropping speed of metal rod under constant load. In non-bonded method, the linear shrinkage approximated one third of true volumetric shrink-age by isotropic contraction. However, in bonded disc method, as the bonded surface increased the linear shrinkage increased up to volumetric shrinkage value by anisotropic contraction. The linear shrinkage value increased with increasing C-factor and approximated true volumetric shrinkage and reached plateau at about C-factor 5∼6. The more flow the composite was, reduced linear shrinkage was measured by compensation radial flow.

  • Engineering plastics have been magnified its usability due to its outstanding mechanic al, electrical and chemical properties, for example, in the area of computer, electricity, electronics, automobile, camera industry. In recent, automobile speedometer system is changing from manual operation to motor operation. All plastic gears inserted by metal shaft are used In motor operated speedometer system. Therefore, in this research, experimental investigation of the shrinkage phenomenon was executed according to various inserted depth and injection conditions. In experiments, the inserted depth was controlled as 30% and 90% of the total thickness of the plastic gear. The main parameters of injection process were selected as injection pressure, holding pressure, melt temperature, injection rate. As main results, free shrinkage rate of the test part is increased about 4 times to restricted shrinkage rate and shrinkage phenomenon against all injection conditions have a trivial effect on the test parts as conventional parts.

  • This study evaluated the effectiveness of the light emitting diode(LED) units for composite curing. To compare its effectiveness with conventional quartz tungsten halogen (QTH) light curing unit. the microhardness of 2mm composite. Z250, which had been light cured by the LEDs (Ultralume LED2, FreeLight, Developing product Dl) or QTH (XL 3000) were compared on the upper and lower surface. One way ANOVA with Tukey and Paired t-test was used at 95% levels of confidence. In addition. the amount of linear polymerization shrinkage was compared between composites which were light cured by QTH or LEDs using a custom-made linometer in 10s and 60s of light curing, and the amount of linear polymerization shrinkage was compared by one way ANOVA with Tukey. The amount of polymerization shrinkage at 10s was XL3000 > Ultralume 2. 40. 60 > FreeLight, D1 (P<0.05) The amount of polymerization shrinkage at 60s was XL3000 > Ultralume 2, 60> Ultralume 2.40 > FreeLight, D1 (P<0.05) The microhardness on the upper and lower surface was as follows ; (equation omitted) It was concluded that the LEDs produced lower polymerization shrinkage in 10s and 60s compared with QTH unit. In addition. the microhardness of samples which had been cured with LEDs was lower on the lower surfaces than the upper surfaces whereas there was no difference in QTH cured samples.

  • This paper investigates the change of mechanical properties and thermal shrinkage in commercial multi-filament PET(polyethylene terephthalate) , namely, regular yarn, POY, DTY and composite yarn. To determine changing the effects of processing steps, these were examined at three steps process simulation conditions. The first step is sizing simulation$(S-1\;step\;:\;130^\circ{C}\times2\;min$., hot air treatment under 0.1 gf/d load), the second step is scouring simulation$(S-2\;step\;:\;100^\circ{C}\times20\;min$., boiling water treatment under free tension)and final step is setting simulation$(S-3\;step\;:\;180^\circ{C}\times2\;min$., hot air treatment under free tension). Regular yarn in multi-step treatment showed higher shrinkage at S-3 step and DTY showed higher in at S-1 step. While POY was relaxed at S-1 step, composite yarn showed different shrinkage properties depending on composite yarn type. Mechanical properties showed good relationship with shrinkage : high shrinkage makes initial modulus decrease and bleating strain increase. It also makes decreasing yield strain and yield stress decrease.

  • This paper investigates the shrinkage behavior of Ultra High Strength(UHSC) having three water-to-cementitious material ratio, 0.20, 0.16, 0.12. All of mixtures have same design compressive strength. Free shrinkage test for autogenous and drying shrinkage using $100{\times}100{\times}400$ prismatic specimen was conducted. On all mixture, Effects of fly ash and blast-furnace slag on each shrinkage test results were also investigated. The largest portion of autogenous shrinkage was observed in UHSC12 (w/b=0.12) and the measured strain was as high as 80% of the total drying shrinkage strain. The autogenous shrinkage of UHSC decreased as the amount of fly ash increased as demonstrated in the literature. However, the results of the effect of blast-furnace slag on autogenous shrinkage were somewhat different from previous researches.

  • This paper presents the research results performed to develope the shrinkage-free grout with high early strength. Alumina cement and anhydrite were utilized as the expensive tool to gain the shrinkage-free grout. The compressive strength, length change, and ettringite formation of the grout were investigated with compressive test, length change test, and X-ray diffraction. The more anhydrite was added into the grout, the larger the early expansion of the grout. In addition, the more anhydrite formated the more ettringite. From this study, It was conformed that the grout mixture with shrinkage-free property and high early strength is the mixture with the ratio of alumina cement and anhydrite of 40:60 by weight.

  • Reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) is abundant substitute for natural aggregate in many areas. It is obtained by crushing of old road pavements in milling machine during rehabilitation and reconstruction process. In this study, reclaimed asphalt pavement mortars (RAPM) have been produced with different cement dosages and replacement ratios. The destructive and nondestructive tests have been conducted on specimens to determine physical and mechanical properties of RAPM. The free and restrained shrinkage tests on RAPM have been conducted to predict fractural behavior of mortars. The aim of the shrinkage tests was to delay crack formation and improve strain capacity of mortars before cracking. The results showed that RAPM exhibits lower elasticity modulus; however the tensile capacity was improved for deformation before cracking.
