The aim of this study is to assess the OSMI (Ocean Scanning Multi-spectral Imager), whose central bands are 443nm, 490nm, 510nm, 555nm, 670nm, and 865nm, for agricultural applications. Radiance measurements, used to determine per cent reflectance of canopies and soils, were acquired with spectro-radiometers (Li-1800;330∼1,100nm, GER-SFOV;350∼2,500nm, and MSR-7000; 300∼2,500nm) in situ for crops and indoors for soils. OSMI equivalent bands and their ratio values were prepared(20nm interval for bands 1∼5; 40nm interval for band 6) by averaging spectral reflectance values to the real OSMI bands and analyzed as to crop growth parameters, leaf area index (LAI), total dry matter, and growth index in crops and physiochemical properties in soils. Spectral variations for each growth stage in rice and for crop discrimination in upland crops were significant statistically. In soils, clay and water content, CEC (Cation Exchange Capacity), free iron oxide, and some cation content were correlated with the OSMI equivalent bands. The result of this study shows OSMI wave bands would be promising for agricultural application in terms of spectral information and resolution.
3D finite element analyses of a corrugated steel web girder and a steel truss web girder are conducted to investigate the static and dynamic behaviour of the hybrid girders. And the analyses results are compared with those by the equivalent beam theory. The equivalent theory is a theory that all section properties of a truss structure are replaced by section properties of a beam including a shear coefficient. When applying the equivalent beam theory, the shear coefficient of the corrugated steel web girder is estimated as the area ratio of flange section to web section and that of the steel truss web girder is calculated by the equation proposed by Abdel. Static deflections and natural frequencies by 3D finite element analyses and those by the equivalent beam theory are in good agreement.

The association of cold-heat (CH) pattern and anthropometry/body composition has been suggested in that they are related to thermoregulation. We aimed to study the association of CH pattern and anthropometry/body composition. A total of 1479 individuals aged 50-80 years were included in the study, and their CH pattern were evaluated by a self-administered questionnaire. After adjustment for age and sex, the CH score were significantly correlated with weight, BMI (body mass index), body surface area, waist-hip ratio, fat free mass, body fat mass, body cell mass, intracellular water, extracellular water, and basal metabolic rate; however, the correlation coefficients were mostly low (0.15-0.24). The selected variables for predicting CH score were various according to the methods used for variable selection; however, the adjusted R-squared of the final models were all around 0.12. Thus the most parsimonious model could be the one that includes sex and BMI. In conclusion, various anthropometry and body composition indices were associated with CH pattern. Future studies are necessary to improve the performance of the prediction model.
This experiment was attempted to improve ethanol productivity by immobilization of Kluyveromyces marxianus FO43 using Jerusalem artichoke powder. Sucrose medium was used to determine optimum conditions for cell immobilization. The optimum conditions were alginate concentration of 2%, bead size of 2 mm, a particle input ratio of 30 : 100, cultivation period of 24 hours, and substrate concentration of 10%(w/v). The immobilized cells produced the high concentrations of ethanol at pH $4.5{\sim}6.5$ and $30{\sim}45^{\circ}C$, broader ranges of pH and temperatures than those of free cells. Under optimum conditions the immobilized cells showed ethanol concentration of 46.4 g/L and productivity of 1.93 g/L.h. The microphotograph using a two phase contrast microscope showed that immobilized cells cultivated under the optimum conditions were densely populated toward the surface area of beads.

The detection of geometric primitives from a digital image is one of the basic tasks in computer vision area and the Hough transform is a well-known method for detecting analytical shape represented by a number of free parameters. However the basic property of the Hough transform, the one-to-many mapping from an image space to a Hough space, causes the innate problem, the sensitivity to noise. In this paper, we proposed Edge Strength Hough Transform which uses edge strength to reduce the sensitivity to noise and proved the insensitivity using the ratio of peaks in a Mough space. We also experimented the proposed method on lines and got small number of peaks in a Hough space compared to traditional Hough transform, which supports the noise insensitivity of the proposed method.

To contribute towards more accurate estimation of the virtual inertia coefficient for the horizontal vibration of ships, three dimensional correction factor $J_H$ for the added mass of finitely long elliptic prismatic bars in horizontal vibration in a free surface of an ideal fluid are calculated. In the problem formulation Dr. T. Kumai's quasi-finite length concept[1,11,12] is employed. Now that, in Dr. Kumai's work[1] for the horizontal vibration the mathematical model was a circular cylinder, the principal aim of the authors' work is to investigate the influence of the beam-draft ratio B/T on $J_H$. The numerical results of this work are shown in Fig.3 graphically, from which we may recognize that the influence of B/T on $J_H$ is remarkable as much as that of the length-draft ratio L/T(refer to Fig.1 also). In Fig.3 the curves for B/T=2.00 are of those based on Dr. Kumai's result[1]. On the other hand, the experimental data obtained by Burril et al.[9] for the horizontal vibration of finitely long prismatic bars of various cross-section shapes are compared with the theoretical added mass coefficients defined by combination of the authors' $J_H$ from Fig.3 and two dimensional coefficients $C_H$ obtained by Lewis form approximation for the corresponding sections. They are in reasonable correspondence with each other as shown in Fig.2. Finally, considering that the longitudinal profile of full-form ship's hull is well resembled to that of an elliptic cylinder and that the influences of other factors such as the sectional area coefficient and the shape of section contour itself can be well merged in the two dimensional added mass coefficient, the authors recommend that the data given in Fig.3 may be successfully adopted for the three dimensional correction factor the added mass in the horizontal vibration of hull-form ships.
Objective: Microencapsulation is a technique to improve stability, bioavailability, and controlled release of active ingredients at a target site. This experiment aimed to investigate the effects of microencapsulated basil oil (MBO) on growth performance, apparent ileal digestibility (AID), jejunal histomorphology, bacterial population as well as antioxidant capacity of broiler chickens in a tropical climate. Methods: A total of 288 one-day-old female broilers (Ross 308) were randomly allocated into 4 groups (6 replicates of 12 birds), based on a completely randomized design. Dietary treatments were as follows: i) basal diet (NC), ii) basal diet with avilamycin at 10 ppm (PC), iii) basal diet with free basil oil (FBO) at 500 ppm, and iv) basal diet with MBO at 500 ppm, respectively. Results: Dietary supplementation of MBO improved average daily gain, and feed conversion ratio of broilers throughout the 42-d trial period (p<0.05), whereas MBO did not affect average daily feed intake compared with NC group. The broilers fed MBO diet exhibited a greater AID of crude protein and gross energy compared with those in other groups (p<0.05). Lactobacillus spp. and Escherichia coli populations were not affected by feeding dietary treatments. Both FBO and MBO had positive effects on jejunal villus height (VH), villus height to crypt depth ratio (VH:CD) and villus surface area of broilers compared to NC and PC groups (p<0.05). Superoxide dismutase level in the duodenal mucosa of MBO group was significantly increased (p<0.01), whereas malondialdehyde level was significantly decreased (p<0.01). Conclusion: Microencapsulation could be considered as a promising driver of the basil oil efficiency, consequently MBO at 500 ppm could be potentially used as a feed additive for improvement of intestinal integrity and nutrient utilization, leading to better performance of broiler chickens.
The purpose of this study was to determine the proportion of 5th grade school children with iron depletion or iron depleted anemia with simultaneously assessing their general nutritional status. The anthropometric measurements, nutrient intake, and biochemical status of iron were measured for 261 school children from 5th grade residing in low income area of Pucheon. The mean height and weight of male were 138.7cm and 33.6kg respectively and were significantly lower than those of female. Mean fat percent, triceps skinfolds thickness and arm circumference were 21.4$\%$, 13.7mm and 22.2cm for female and were significantly higher than 19.1$\%$, 11.4mm, 21.4cm of male respectively. The intake on vitamin A and calcium were 46.4$\%$ and 47.7$\%$ of RDA for male and 36.6$\%$ and 44.9$\%$ for male respectively. The energy intake, carbohydrate, thiamin, niacin, ascorbic acid of male were significantly higher than those of female respectively. The mean daily intake of iron were 7.5mg for male and 7.3mg for female and were not significantly different. The mean biochemical indices of iron nutritional status were not significantly different between male and female expect free erythrocyte protoporphyrin(FEP) and FEP : hemoglobin ratio. The proportion of male assessed by serum iron(<70$\mu\textrm{g}$/㎗), Hb($\%$), FEP(<70$\mu\textrm{g}$/㎗RBC) were 25.4$\%$, 8.4$\%$. 0.8$\%$, 1.8$\%$ respectively and 23.2$\%$, 8.4$\%$, 3.4$\%$, 1.0$\%$ for female respectively.

Motor imagery based Brain-computer Interface(BCI), which has recently attracted attention, is the technique for decoding the user's voluntary motor intention using Electroencephalography(EEG). For classifying the motor imagery, event-related desynchronization(ERD), which is the phenomenon of EEG voltage drop at sensorimotor area in ${\mu}$-band(8-13Hz), has been generally used but this method are not free from the performance degradation of the BCI system because EEG has low spatial resolution and shows different ERD-appearing band according to users. Common spatial pattern(CSP) was proposed to solve the low spatial resolution problem but it has a disadvantage of being very sensitive to frequency-band selection. Discriminative filter bank common spatial pattern(DFBCSP) tried to solve the frequency-band selection problem by using the Fisher ratio of the averaged EEG signal power and establishing discriminative filter bank(DFB) which only includes the feature frequency-band. However, we found that DFB might not include the proper filters showing the spatial pattern of ERD. To solve this problem, we apply a band-selection process using CSP feature vectors and linear discriminant analysis to DFBCSP instead of the averaged EEG signal power. The filter selection results and the classification accuracies of the existing and the proposed methods show that the CSP feature is more effective than signal power feature.
