  • This paper addresses a design issue of "model complexity and performance trade-off" in the application of bandwidth extension (BWE) methods to the intra-frame predictivevector quantization problem of wideband speech. It discusses model-based linear and non-linear prediction methods and presents a comparative study of them in terms of prediction gain. Through experimentation, the general trend of saturation in performance (with the increase in model complexity) is observed. However, specifically, it is also observed that there is no significant difference between HMM and GMM-based BWE functions.

  • It devides that a comic book is based on paper and the other one is serviced through the medium of internet. Each one called conventional form of comic book and digital one; however, it is simply uploaded scan-images of comic book on monitors instead of paper. This is just only difference of output form of comics and it does not bring out digital feature. Thus the new possibility of digital comics will be searched with the core of digital contents, interactivity is applied for comic frame-manner.

  • Nonseismic designed RC frame have a possibility of shear failure because of deficiencies of reinforcing details. To model the shear failure in numerical analysis, shear strength degradation models which include Moehle's and ATC 40 are compared and applied to push-over analysis. For numerical analysis, three storied building frame is selected and designed according to Korean Concrete Design Code(2003). From the numerical analysis, it is pointed out that there may be great difference in lateral drift capacity if a different shear strength model is used. And the capacity can be severely underestimated if the restraining model of plastic rotation of ATC 40 is used, compared to the use of shear spring for shear degradation.

  • At 3-D vision measuring, the camera calibration is necessary to calculate parameters accurately. Camera calibration was developed widely in two categories. One is that establishes reference points in space, and the other is that uses the grid type frame and statistical method. But, the former has difficult to setup reference points and the latter has low accuracy. In this paper we present an algorithm for camera calibration using perspective ratio of the grid type frame with different line widths. The advantage of this algorithm is that it can estimate position, pose and distance between camera and object ...

  • In this letter, we propose a one-way ranging algorithm that is based on wireless synchronization with measured timestamps and clock frequency offsets. In our proposed algorithm, an active mobile node initiates a ranging procedure by transmitting a ranging frame, and the anchor nodes report their timestamps for the received ranging frame to a reference anchor node. The synchronization of a pair of nodes is provided with instantaneous time information, and the corresponding difference of distances can be calculated.

  • Recent trends in design standards development have encouraged the use of probabilistic limit sate design concepts. Reliability analysis adopted in those advanced countries have the potentials that they afford for symplifying the design Process arid placing it on a consistent reliability based for various construction materials. This study is proposed in the reliability analysis of plane frame structures using second-order moment method(Level-II they). Lind-Hasofer's minimum distance method is use in the derivation of an mathematical algorithm as well as an determination of Correlation cofficients, reliability index and total reliability index depending on the multiple failure modes. In addition. This study is employed as a practical tool for the approximate reliability analysis. Results of the numerincal analysis showed that the difference between the reliability index of the failure probability of the multiple failure modes and the total reliability index of the failure probability with the simultaneous failure modes deviated nearly 3∼10% depending on tile performance functions.

  • NHC means that the velocity of the vehicle in the plane perpendicular to the forward direction is almost zero. The main error source of NHC is the mounting misalignment which is the difference between the body frame of a land vehicle and the sensor frame of an inertial measurement unit. This paper suggests new NHC algorithm that can reduce position errors by real-time estimation of mounting misalignment. Then NHC/ZUPT integrated land navigation system is designed and its performances are analyzed by simulations with van test data. Simulation results show that the proposed NHC/ZUPT land navigation system improves navigation accuracy regardless of misalignment angle and is very useful when SDINS operates stand-alone for land vehicle navigation with large mounting misalignment.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient method to detect abrupt shot changes in compressed MPEG video data by using reference ratios among video frames. The reference ratios among video frames imply the degree of similarities among adjacent frames by prediction coded type of each frames. A shot change is detected if the similarity degrees of a frame and its adjacent frames are low. This paper proposes an efficient shot change detection algorithm by using Fuzzy c-means(FCM) clustering algorithm. The FCM clustering uses the shot change probabilities evaluated in the mask matching of reference ratios and difference measure values based on frame reference ratios.

  • In this study, the seismic performance of connections between filled composite beam (CG beams) and forming angle composite (FAC) column was experimentally evaluated. First, the bending tests were conducted on two CG beams and the axial tests were conducted on two FAC columns. Then, based on these preliminary test results, the cyclic loading test were performed on two interior connections between CG beam and FAC column. The main difference of two specimens is the plate shape of the CG beam. The test results showed that both specimens achieved the maximum story drift capacity over 0.04 radian which is required for special moment frame.

  • Adequate segmentation of target objects from the background plays an important role for the performance of automatic target recognition(ATR) system. This paper presents a new segmentation algorithm using fuzzy thresholding to extract a target. The proposed algorithm consists of two steps. In the first step, the region of interest(ROI) including the target can be automatically selected by the proposed robust method based on the frame difference of each image sensor. In the second step, fuzzy thresholding with a proposed membership function is performed within the only ROI selected in the first step. The proposed membership function is based on the similarity of intensity and the adjacency of target area on each image. Experimental results applied to real CCD/IR images show a good performance and the proposed algorithm is expected to enhance the performance of ATR system using multi-sensors.
