  • The use of recycled aggregate concrete is increasing faster than the development of appropriate design recommendations. This paper is making advances in the recycling of waste concrete material for use as recycled aggregate to make secondary concrete product. Using recycled aggregates from demolished concrete, we manufactured concrete blocks to experiment overall performance in feasible performances. This paper reports limited experimental data on the structural performance of shear wall used concrete blocks made in recycled aggregates. Reinforced concrete frame and shear walls were tested to determine their diagonal cracking and ultimate shear behavior. The variable in the test program was the existence of infilled wall used concrete blocks Made in recycled aggregates. Based on the experimental results, Infilled wall has a high influence on the maximum strength and initial stiffness of reinforced concrete frame. Structural performance of specimen WSB1 and WSB2 is quite different from RCF specimen, particularly strength, stiffness and energy dissipation capacity.

  • This paper strongly addresses to the problem of the mechanical systems in which parameters are uncertain and bounded. Interval calculation is used to find sharp bounds of the structural parameters for infilled frame system modeled with finite element method. Infill walls are generally treated as non-structural elements considerably to improve the lateral stiffness, strength and ductility of the structure together with the frame elements. Because of their complex nature, they are often neglected in the analytical model of building structures. However, in seismic design, ignoring the effect of infill wall in a numerical model does not accurately simulate the physical behavior. In this context, there are still some uncertainties in mechanical and also geometrical properties in the analysis and design procedure of infill walls. Structural uncertainties can be studied with a finite element formulation to determine sharp bounds of the structural parameters such as wall thickness and Young's modulus. In order to accomplish this sharp solution as much as possible, interval finite element approach can be considered, too. The structural parameters can be considered as interval variables by using the interval number, thus the structural stiffness matrix may be divided into the product of two parts which correspond to the interval values and the deterministic value.

  • In this paper, systematic analyses for the shoring systems installed to support applied loads during construction are performed on the basis of the numerical approach introduced in the previous study. Structural behaviors require changes in design variables such as types of shoring systems, shore stiffness and shore spacing. In this paper, the design variable are analyzed and discussed. The time dependent deformations of concrete and construction sequences of frame structures are also taken into account to minimize structural instability and to improve design of shoring system, because those effects may increase axial forces delivered to shores. From many parametric studies, it can be recommended that the most effective shoring system is 2SlR(two shores and one reshore)

  • The use of composite semi-rigid connections is not fully exploited, in spite of its great number of advantages. Composite semi-rigid connections may lead to an optimal moment distribution that will render lighter structures. Furthermore, using the appropriate semi-rigid connection design, the stability of the frames against lateral loads may entirely rely on the joint stiffness, thus avoiding bracing systems and permitting more diaphanous designs. Although modern codes, such as the Eurocode 4 (EC4), propose thorough methods of analysis they do not provide enough insight and simplicity from the design point of view. The purpose of this paper is to introduce practical and efficient methods of analysis that will facilitate the work of a structural analyst starting from the global analysis of the composite frame and ending on the final connection design. A key aspect is the definition of the stiffness and strength of the connections that will lead to an optimal moment distribution in the composite beams. Two examples are presented in order to clarify the application of the proposed methods and to demonstrate the advantages of the semi-rigid composite design with respect to the alternative pinned and rigid ones. The final aim of the paper is to stimulate and encourage the designer on the use of composite semi-rigid structures.

  • It is now possible to design buildings in various forms using a diagrid structural system, which is the one of the most useful structural systems. It is difficult to design and construct the connections, however, and the bucklings in braces weaken the seismic performance of structures. In this study, the initial stiffness, ductility, and energy-dissipated capacity of a diagrid and a diagrid BRB were evaluated via frame tests. The results of the cycling load tests showed that the diagrid BRB had better initial stiffness and ductility, and dissipated extra energy after the BRBs were yielded.

  • The structural system that discreterized from continuous shells is frequently used to make a large space structures. As well these structures show the unstable phenomena when a load level over the limit load, and snap-through and bifurcation are most well known of it. For the collapse mechanism, rise-span ratio, element stiffness and load mode are main factor, which it give an effect to unstable behavior. In our real situation, most structures have semi-rigid joint that has middle characteristic between pin and rigid joint. So the knowledge of semi-rigid joint is very important problem of stable large space structure. And the instability phenemena of framed space structures show a strong non-linearity and very sensitive behavior according to the joint rigidity For this reason In this study, we are investigating to unstable problem of framed structure with semi-rigidity and to grasp the nonlinear instability behavior that make the fundamental collapse mechanism of the large space frame structures with semi-rigid joint, by proposed the numerical analysis method. Using the incremental stiffness matrix in chapter 2, we study instability of space structures.

  • We performed shape optimization of an anti-vibration rubber assembly which is used in the field option cabin of agricultural tractors to improve the vibration isolation capability. To characterize the hyper-elastic material property of rubber, we performed uniaxial and biaxial tension tests and used the data to calibrate the material model applied in the finite element analyses. We conducted a field test to characterize the input excitation from the tractor and the output response at the cabin frame. To account for the nonlinear behavior of rubber, we performed static analyses to derive the load-displacement curve of the anti-vibration rubber assembly. The stiffness of the rubber assembly could be calculated from this curve and was input to the harmonic analyses of the cabin. We compared the results with the test data for verification. We utilized Taguchi's parameter design method to determine the optimal shape of the anti-vibration rubber assembly and found two distinct shapes with reduced stiffness. Results show that the vibration at the cabin frame was reduced by approximately 35% or 47.6% compared with the initial design using the two optimized models.

  • The energy-saving block and invisible multi-ribbed frame composite wall (EBIMFCW) is a new type of load-bearing wall. The study of this paper focus on it is hysteresis rule under horizontal cyclic loading. Firstly, based on the experimental data of the twelve specimens under horizontal cyclic loading, the influence of two important parameters of axial compression ratio and shear-span ratio on the restoring force model was analyzed. Secondly, a tetra-linear restoring force model considering four feature points and the degradation law of unloading stiffness was established by combining theoretical analysis and regression analysis of experimental data, and the theoretical formula of the peak load of the EBIMFCW was derived. Finally, the hysteretic path of the restoring force model was determined by analyzing the hysteresis characteristics of the typical hysteresis loop. The results show that the curves calculated by the tetra-linear restoring force model in this paper agree well with the experimental curves, especially the calculated values of the peak load of the wall are very close to the experimental values, which can provide a reference for the elastic-plastic analysis of the EBIMFCW.

  • Despite the considerable lateral stiffness and strength of the Concentrically Braced Frame (CBF), it suffers from low ductility and low seismic dissipating energy capacity. The buckling of the diagonal members of the CBF systems under cyclic loading ended up to the shortcoming against seismic loading. Comprehensive researches have been performing to achieve helpful approaches to prevent the buckling of the diagonal member. Among the recommended ideas, metallic damper revealed a better success than other ideas to enhance the behavior of CBFs. While metallic dampers improve the behavior of the CBF system, they increase constructional costs. Therefore, in this paper, a new steel damper with flexural mechanism is proposed, which is investigated experimentally and numerically. Also, a parametrical revision was carried out to evaluate the effect of thickness, slenderness ratio, angle of the main plate, and height of the main plates on the proposed damper. For the parametrical study, 45 finite element models were analyzed and considered. Experimental results, as well as the numerical results, indicated that the proposed damper enjoys a stable hysteresis loop without any degradation up to a high rotation equal to around 31% that is significantly considerable. Moreover, it showed a suitable performance in case of ductility and energy dissipating. Besides, the necessary formulas to design the damper, the required relations were proposed to design the elements outside the damper to ensure the damper acts as a ductile fuse.

  • The seismic performance of the reinforced concrete (RC) special-shaped column to steel beam connections with steel jacket used in the RC column to steel beam fabricated frame structures was investigated in this study. The three full-scale specimens were subjected to cyclic loading. The failure mode, ultimate bearing capacity, shear strength capacity, stiffness degradation, energy dissipation capacity, and strain distribution of the specimens were studied by varying the steel jacket thickness parameters. Test results indicate that the RC special-shaped column to steel beam connection with steel jacket is reliable and has excellent seismic performance. The hysteresis curve is full and has excellent energy dissipation capacity. The thickness of the steel jacket is an important parameter affecting the seismic performance of the proposed connections, and the shear strength capacity, ductility, and initial stiffness of the specimens improve with the increase in the thickness of the steel jacket. The calculation formula for the shear strength capacity of RC special-shaped column to steel beam connections with steel jacket is proposed on the basis of the experimental results and numerical simulation analysis. The theoretical values of the formula are in good agreement with the experimental values.
