Superhydrophilic thin film consisted of positively charged poly (allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and negatively charged poly (acrylic acid) (PAA) was fabricated by a layer-by-layer (LBL) self-assembly. Glutaraldehyde (GA) was used in order to increase an adhesion hardness by amine-aldehyde reaction. The surface morphology, thickness, transmittance, water contact angle and adhesion hardness of PAH/PAA thin film with or without GA were measured. The adhesion hardness of PAH/PAA thin film with GA deposition increased over 2 times although the film thickness of PAH/GA/PAA decreased than that of PAH/PAA thin film. The increase of adhesion hardness by amine-aldehyde reaction between PAH and GA was measured by fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. Fabricated PAH/PAA and PAH/GA/PAA thin films showed water contact angel under $5^{\circ}$ and high transmittance over 91.3% at 550 nm.

Floral scents and metabolites from cut flowers of 14 peony cultivars (Paeonia lactiflora Pall.) were analyzed to discriminate different cultivars and to compare the Korean cultivar with the other cut peonies imported to Korea using electronic nose (E-nose) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy combined with multivariate analysis, respectively. Principal component analysis (PCA) and discriminant function analysis (DFA) dendrogram of peony floral scents were not precisely same but there were 3 groups including same cultivars. PCA and partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) dendrograms of peony metabolites showed that different cut peony cultivars were clustered into two major groups including same cultivars. Fragrance pattern of Korean 'Taebaek' was classified to same group with 'Jubilee' on the PCA and DFA results and its metabolite pattern was clearly discriminated by the PCA and PLS-DA compared to the other cultivars. These results show that the 14 peony cut flowers could be discriminated corresponding to their chemical relationship and the metabolic profile of Korean 'Taebaek' has distinctive characteristics. Furthermore, we suggest that these results could be used as the preliminary data for breeding new cut peony cultivars and for improving the availability of Korean cut peony in cosmetic industry.
Amphiphilic PCZ-r-PEG random copolymer assisted solvothermal process is used to prepare mesoporous $TiO_2$ microspheres generated from nanoparticles by self-assembly method. Synthesized PCZ-r-PEG is characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The mesoporous $TiO_2$ are prepared by PCZ-r-PEG, glucose, water in tertrahydrofuran solution at $150^{\circ}C$ for 12 h and the $TiO_2$ microspheres are calcined at $550^{\circ}C$ for 30 min to further crystallize and organic residue are removed. Morphology and crystallization phase is characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) respectively. The mesoporous $TiO_2$ crystallized in pure anatase phase with diameter of $300{\pm}20nm$.
Dissolved organic matter (DOM), which changes according to various factors, is ubiquitously present from natural environments to engineered treatment systems. Only limited information is available regarding the environmental functions of DOM after bulk analyses are only applied for characterization. In this paper, latest DOM analytical techniques are briefly introduced, which include fluorescence excitation-emission matrix with parallel factor analysis (EEM-PARAFAC), size-exclusion chromatography with an organic carbon detector (SEC-OCD), carbon/nitrogen stable-isotope ratio, and Fourier transform-ion cyclotron resonance-mass spectroscopy (FT-ICR-MS). Recent examples of using advanced analyses to interpret the phenomena associated with DOM occurring in natural and engineered systems are presented here. Through EEM-PARAFAC, different components like protein-like, fulvic-like, and humic-like can be identified and tracked individually through the investigated systems. SEC-OCD allows researchers to quantify different size fractions. FT-ICR-MS provides thousands of molecular formulas present in bulk DOM samples. Lastly, carbon/nitrogen stable-isotope ratio offers reasonable tools for tracking the sources in environments. We also discuss the advantages and weakness of the above-mentioned characterizing tools. Specifically, they focus on single environmental factors (different sourced-DOM and interaction of sediment-pore water) or simple changes after individual treatment processes. Through collaboration with the advanced techniques later, they help the researchers to better understand environmental behaviors in aquatic systems and serve as essential tools for addressing various pending problems associated with DOM.

In this study, self-healable waterborne polyurethane (SH-WPU) as shoes and coating materials with self-healable disulfide functionalities was synthesized by mixing polyether polyol to impart excellent durability and heat resistance and polycarbonate polyol to impart excellent mechanical properties. The synthesized SH-WPU was characterized by fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and physical and self-healing properties were confirmed through universal testing machine (UTM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) measurements. Tensile strength and hardness were increased and elongation was decreased by using polycarbonate polyol. In addition, as a result of comparison of thermal properties, thermal stability has been increased as the content of polycarbonate polyol increased. The healing efficiency showed the highest efficiency when poly(tetramethylene ether)glycol : polycarbonate polyol = 0.75 : 0.25, and it was confirmed that the damaged part was healed through surface observation using a microscope and SEM.

In this paper, a computer simulation program was developed to interpret the results measured by photoreflectance spectroscopy. The developed program is implemented so that the user can easily change the factors required for optical modulation characteristic interpretation, and the result of the value can be checked simultaneously with the actual measurement result. The results obtained by photoreflectance spectroscopy are obtained by mixing a third derivative function form (TDFF) modulated around a bandgap with a Franz-Keldysh oscillation (FKO) signal due to an electric field at a surface and an interface higher than the bandgap. Through the computer simulation program, the optical characteristics that appear in the GaSb Epi layer formed as a single layer were analyzed, and very useful results were obtained by specializing in optical modulation analysis. In addition, a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analysis tool was added to facilitate frequency characteristics analysis of FKO.
The purpose of this study is to prepare GPTMS((3-Glycidoxypropyl) trimethoxysilane)-SiO2 nanofluid and analyze the effect of nanofluid injection on carbonate reservoirs. Structural analysis of silica nanoparticles modified by GPTMS was investigated by FTIR(Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy). C-H stretching vibrations at 2,950 cm-1 indicating the silica surface modification with GPTMS were observed when the silane feed was over 0.5 mmol/g. Also, the coreflooding test by nanofluid injection on the aged limestone and dolomite plug samples was carried out with different particle concentration and flow rate. The incremental oil recovery was up to 18.9%, and contact angle and permeability of carbonate samples were changed by the effect of nanoparticle adsorption on pore which caused wettability alteration and pore size change. Therefore, the prepared nanofluid will be utilized as an injection fluid for enhancing oil recovery and modifying fluid flow properties such as change of rock wettability and permeability in carbonate reservoirs.

In this work, the influence of thermal treatment on surface properties of silicas and mechanical interfacial properties of silicas/polyurethane composites was investigated. The surface properties of thermally treated silicas were studied in the context of Fourier Transform-IR (FT-IR), solid-state 29Si NMR spectroscopy, and contact angle. And the mechanical interfacial properties of the silica/polyurethane composites were evaluated by composite tearing energy (GIIIC). As a result, it was found that the thermally treated silica surfaces became hydrophobic in nature, due to the condensation of surface hydroxyls and the formation of siloxane bonds, resulting in increasing the London dispersive component of surface free energy. From which, the increase of the London dispersive component of the silicas led to an improvement of the dispersion of silicas in a polyurethane matrix, finally resulting in improving the tearing energy (GIIIC) of the silicas/polyurethane composites.
In this study, we performed surface modification of biodegradable microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) to use as a filler in polyethylene (PE) composite in food packaging application. We modified MCC surface with (3-trimethoxysilylpropyl)diethylenetriamine (TPDT) silane coupling agent, which has one primary amino group and two secondary amino groups per molecule, to introduce amino groups with a carbon dioxide adsorption capability in MCC. Effects of each of the reaction conditions such as amount of TPDT introduced, swelling time, reaction temperature, and reaction time on surface modification degree of MCC were investigated by changing a variety of above reaction conditions. The amount of TPDT grafted on MCC surface and formation of chemical bonds were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), elemental analysis (EA), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and solid state $^{29}Si$ nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. We confirmed increase of grafted amount of TPDT on MCC with increasing reaction time, reaction temperature, and amount of introduced TPDT.
Research is being conducted on graphene to provide graphene having both excellent physical as well as electrical properties in addition to unique physical properties. In this study, Hummer's method, which is a representative method for chemical exfoliation, was applied in order to investigate the possibility of the mass production of high-quality graphene oxide. Three types of graphite (graphite, crystalline graphite, and expanded graphite) were used in the preparation of graphene oxide with variations in the amount of potassium permanganate added, reaction temperature, and reaction time. Then a Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), a Raman spectrometer, and a transmission electron microscope (TEM) were used to measure the quality of the prepared graphene oxide. Of the three types of graphite used in this experiment, crystalline graphite showed the highest quality. The prepared graphene oxide was then purified with an organic solvent, and an analysis conducted using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). From the results of the residual values, we were able to confirm that both acid wastewater and wastewater were best purified using cyclohexane. The method for manufacturing graphene oxide as well as the method of purification using organic solvents that are presented in this study are expected to have less of an environmental impact, making them environmentally friendly. This makes them suitable for use in various industrial fields such as the film industry and for heat dissipation and as coating agents.
