  • We propose an implementation scheme for an optical encryption system with hybrid-pattern random keys. In the encryption process, a pair of random phase keys composed of a white-noise phase key and a structured phase key are positioned in the input plane and Fourier-spectrum plane respectively. The output image is recoverable by digital reconstruction, using the conjugate of the encryption key in the Fourier-spectrum plane. We discuss the system encryption performance when different combinations of phase-key pairs are used. To measure the effectiveness of the proposed method, we calculate the statistical indicators between original and encrypted images. The results are compared to those generated from a classical double random phase encoding. Computer simulations are presented to show the validity of the method.

  • A spectrally encapsulated (SE) orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) precoding scheme for wireless short packet transmission, which can suppress the out-of-band emission (OoBE) while maintaining the advantage of the cyclic prefix (CP)-OFDM, is proposed. The SE-OFDM symbol consists of a prefix, an inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) symbol, and a suffix generated by the head, center, and tail matrices, respectively. The prefix and suffix play the roles of a guard interval and suppress the OoBE, and the IFFT symbol has the same size as the discrete Fourier transform symbol in the CP-OFDM symbol and serves as an information field. Specifically, as the center matrix generating the IFFT symbol is orthogonal, data and pilot symbols can be allocated to any subcarrier without distinction. Even if the proposed precoder is required to generate OFDM symbols with spectral efficiency in the transmitter, a corresponding decoder is not required in the receiver. The proposed scheme is compared with CP-OFDM in terms of spectrum, OoBE, and bit-error rate.

  • Response spectra of earthquake ground motions are important in the earthquake-resistant design and reliability analysis of structures. The formulation of the response spectrum in the frequency domain efficiently computes and evaluates the stochastic response spectrum. The frequency information of the excitation can be described using different functional forms. The shapes of the calculated response spectra of the excitation show strong magnitude and site dependency, but weak distance dependency. In this paper, to compare the effect of the earthquake ground motion variables, the contribution of these sources of variability to the response spectrum's uncertainty is calculated by using a stochastic analysis. The analytical results show that earthquake source factors and soil condition variables are the main sources of uncertainty in the response spectra, while path variables, such as distance, anelastic attenuation and upper crust attenuation, have relatively little effect. The presented formulation of dynamic structural response in frequency domain based only on the frequency information of the excitation can provide an important basis for the structural analysis in some location that lacks strong motion records.

  • In this paper, a new algorithm for high level security and quality of speech is proposed. The algorithm is based on the rearrangement of the fast fourier transform (FFT) coefficients with pre and post filter process, hamming window and adaptive pseudo spectrum insertion. Then, the pre and post filters are used for the whitening of speech spectrum and the adaptive pseudo spectrum is inserted for the unclassification of silence/speech. Also, the hamming window technique is applied for the robustness to the syncronization error in the telephone line. According to the simulation results, it can be seen that the security of scrambled signal and the quality of descrambled signal have been improved fairly in both subjective and objective performance test and the new FFT scrambler is robust to the synchronization error.

  • The applications of the electrical transmission line theory to the pressure propagation characteristics in the volume loaded fluid transmission line with step and impulse input wave is demonstrated in this paper. The method is based on the premise that the time response is the inverse Fourier transform of frequency spectrum of the wave which spectrum is a product of frequency spectrum of input pressure wave and system transfer function. The frequency response and transient response of step and impulse input wave in the volume loaded fluid transmission line is analysed by the Laplace transform and inverse Laplace transform with FFT numerical algorithm. The numerical solution of the distributed friction model is compared with the average friction model and the infinite product model. And the result is showed that FFT method may have major advantages for the simulation of fluid circuitary.

  • A simple method is proposed for determining the frequency response function G(j.omega.) of a system using a pair of characteristic M-sequences (maximum length linear feed back shift register sequence). When a characteristic M-sequence is sampled with q$_{1}$ and q$_{2}$ both of which are coprime with N, where N is the period of the M-sequence, the obtained pair of sequences have conjugate complex frequency spectrum. Making use of this fact, two charcteristic M-sequences having conjugate complex frequency spectrum are applied to a system to be measured. Since the magnitude of spectrium of M-sequence is known, the gain of G(j.omega.) is directly obtained from the Fourier transform of the system output. The phase of G(j.omega.) is obtained simply by taking the average of the two phases of output spectrum.

  • The speech signal has been put into a form suitable for storage and analysis by computer, several different operation can be performed. Filtering, sampling and quantization are the basic operation in digiting a speech signal. The waveform can be displayed, measured and even edited, and spectra can be computed using methods such as the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), Linear predictive Coding (LPC), Cepstrum and filtering. The digitized signal also can be used to generate spectrograms. The spectrograph provide major advantages to the study of speech. So, author introduces the basic techniques for the acoustic recording, digital signal processing and the principles of spectrum and spectrogram.

  • The high-frequency analysis method of back-scattering cross section spectrum of rotating targets is established. The time history of the back-scattering cross section is calculated using a quasi-stationary approach, based on a physical optics and a physical theory of diffraction, combining an adaptive triangular beam method to consider the shadow effect. And the spectra of back-scattering cross section by the Doppler effect are analyzed applying a simple fast Fourier transform method to its time history. The numerical calculation for rotating targets, such as rotating metal plates and underwater propeller, are carried out. The time history appears to be periodic with respect to the number of wings. The backscattering cross section spectrum level and its frequency shift are dependent on the rotating speed, direction, and the shape of the targets.

  • In this study, we demonstrate ultrahigh-resolution spectral-domain optical coherence tomography with a 200-kHz line rate using a superluminescent diode with a -3-dB bandwidth of 100 nm at 849 nm. To increase the line rate, a subset of the total number of camera pixels is used. In addition, a partial-spectrum detection method is used to obtain OCT images within an imaging depth of 2.1 mm while maintaining ultrahigh axial resolution. The partially detected spectrum has a flat-topped intensity profile, and side lobes occur after fast Fourier transformation. Consequently, we propose and apply the super-Gaussian window function as a new window function, to reduce the side lobes and obtain a result that is close to that of the axial-resolution condition with no window function applied. Upon application of the super-Gaussian window function, the result is close to the ultrahigh axial resolution of 4.2 ㎛ in air, corresponding to 3.1 ㎛ in tissue (n = 1.35).

  • The transform domain communication system (Hereinafter referred to as TDCS) takes on numerous advantages, inclusive of anti-jamming and low probability of detection. Yet its application is confined by the consistent spectrum in the transmitter and receiver, which is not possible in the case of a huge distance exsits between them. In this paper, a TDCS based modified weighted fractional fourier transform (WFRFT) is proposed to solve the problem resulting from spectrum mismatching for TDCS application. The amplitude and phase information are incorporated with the TDCS signals and transmit to the receiver together in the wake of a modified WFRFT. The basic function and the TDCS signals shall be accessible to the receivers in the wake of an inverse WFRFT transform, which make sure that the original information can be demodulated properly. The system's reliability while transmitting signals with different modulation methods and with spectrum mismatching is demonstrated by bit error rate (BER). In the meantime, the constellations of the signals and the BER performances at the eavesdropper demonstrate the proposed system is better secured.
