The parameter estimation method of this paper directly estimate the parameters on the basis of the discrete Fourier transform. Also, this paper present to efficient visualization method of dominant parameters obtained in continuous time signal. The proposed methods are applied to test functions with three dominant modes. The results show that the proposed methods are highly applicable to parameter estimation and visualization in continuous time signal.

  • This study analyzes the expense structure of the air transport industry, based on the cost and income data of 18 major airlines, estimates the economic effectiveness of scale and conducts comparative analysis. As for the method of analysis, Translog cost function and the Fourier flexible function were used. The result showed that big companies had the economy of scale based on the Translog cost function, while the Fourier flexible function led to a estimation that expanding the input is not recommended, for the expansion of scale entails the poor economy of scale. It can be presumed that the economy of scale was estimated according to the U shape of the Translog cost function in the given data. On the other hand, the Fourier flexible cost function approaches the unknown function, as it is a Fourier series, and correctly infers the economy of scale based on the analyzed data. As for the flag carrier's economy of scale, it was inferred that the economy of scale existed by any of two functions. Therefore, the conclusion was that further expanding the scale will not cause any problem.

  • This paper applies a recently developed on-line parameter identification (PID) technique to sets of real flight data and compares the results with those of a state-of-the-art off-line PID technique. The on-line PID technique takes Linear Regression from Fourier Transformed equations and the off-line PID is based on the traditional Maximum Likelihood method. Sets of flight data from the NASA F/A-18 High Alpha research Vehicle (HARV) circraft, which has been recorded from specifically designed maneuvers and used for our line parameter estimation, are used for this study. The emphasis is given on the accuracy and on-line measure of reliability of the estimates. The comparison is performed for both longitudinal and lateral-directional dynamics for maneuvers at angles of attack ranging u=20°through $\alpha$=40°. Results of the two estimation processes are also compared with baseline wind tunnel estimates whenever possible.

  • This paper describes an improved Prony method in its speed, accuracy and reliability by efficiently determining the optimal sampling interval with use of DFT (discrete Fourier transformation). In the Prony method the computation time is dominated by the size of the linear prediction matrix, which is given by the number of data times the modeling order The size of the matrix in a general Prony method becomes large because of large number of data and so does the computation time. It is found that the Prony method produces satisfactory results when SNR is greater than three. The maximum sampling interval resulting minimum computation time is determined using the fact that the spectrum in DFT is inversely proportional to sampling interval. Also the process of computing the modes is made efficient by applying Hessenberg method to the companion matrix with complex shift and computing selectively only the dominant modes of interest. The proposed method is tested against the 2003 KEPCO system and found to be efficient and reliable. The proposed method may play a key role in monitoring in real time low frequency oscillations of power systems .

  • Since correlation filter appeared in the field of object tracking, it plays an increasingly vital role due to its excellent performance. Although many sophisticated trackers have been successfully applied to track the object accurately, very few of them attaches importance to the scale and rotation estimation. In order to address the above limitation, we propose a novel method combined with Fourier-Mellin transform and confidence evaluation strategy for robust object tracking. In the first place, we construct a correlation filter to locate the target object precisely. Then, a log-polar technique is used in the Fourier-Mellin transform to cope with the rotation and scale changes. In order to achieve subpixel accuracy, we come up with an efficient surface fitting mechanism to obtain the optimal calculation result. In addition, we introduce a confidence evaluation strategy modeled on the output response, which can decrease the impact of image noise and perform as a criterion to evaluate the target model stability. Experimental experiments on OTB100 demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves superior capability in success plots and precision plots of OPE, which is 10.8% points and 8.6% points than those of KCF. Besides, our method performs favorably against the others in terms of SRE and TRE validation schemes, which shows the superiority of our proposed algorithm in scale and rotation evaluation.

  • In this paper, Recursive Least Squares (RLS) and Fourier Transform Regression (FTR) methods for estimating stability and control derivatives of small unmanned helicopter are evaluated together with MMLE technique. Flight data simulated by using a commercial small-scale helicopter model are exploited to estimate the parameters with accuracies for hover and cruise modes. The performances of the system identification methods are also compared by analyzing the responses of the reconstructed systems using estimated derivatives.

  • The thermo-acoustic emission (AE) technique has been applied for nondestructive characterization of composite laminates subjected to cryogenic cooling. Thermo-AE events during heating and cooling cycles showed a Kaiser effect. An analysis of the thermo-AE behavior obtained during the 1st heating period suggested a method for determining the stress-free temperature of the composite laminates. Three different thermo-AE types classified by a short-time Fourier transform of AE signals enabled to offer a nondestructive estimation of the cryogenic damages of the composites, in that the different thermo-AE types corresponded to secondary microfracturing in the matrix contacting between crack surfaces and some abrasive contact between broken fiber ends during thermal load cycles.

  • This paper discusses the advantages of using Fourier-based periodic excitation and of combining internal and external models in dynamic robot parameter identification. Internal models relate the joint torques or forces with the motion of the robot; external models relate the reaction forces and torques on the bedplate with the motion data. This combined model allows to combine joint torque/force and reaction torque/force measurements in one parameter estimation scheme. This combined model estimation will yield more accurate parameter estimates, and consequently better predictions of actuator torque, which is shown by means of a simulated experiment on a CRS A465 industrial robot.
