  • In this paper, we obtain the existence of positive solutions for a quasi-linear four-point boundary value problem of higher-order differential equation. By using the fixed point index theorem and imposing some conditions on f, the existence of positive solutions to a higher-order four-point boundary value problem with a p-Laplacian is obtained.

  • Purpose: This study examined the activation of the rectus abdominis (RA), external abdominal oblique (EO), transversus abdominis, internal abdominal oblique (TrA/IO), and Multifidus (MF) muscles while stabilization exercise was performed in a four-point kneeling position. Methods: Experiments were conducted on 21 healthy male adults (mean age=25.29 years) who voluntarily agreed to participate in the study. Each subject was instructed regarding maximal voluntary contractions (MVC) and stabilization exercise in four-point kneeling. While MVC and stabilization exercise of individual muscles were being performed, activation of the muscles was measured using surface electromyography (EMG). Activation of the muscles while performing stabilization exercise in four-point kneeling was normalized to a percentages of the MVC. Results: Left RA, right TrA/IO, right and left MF muscles showed significant differences among the positions. Conclusion: Selecting an optimal position can aid subjects on physical conditions while performing stabilization exercises in the four-point kneeling position.

  • Purpose: This study investigated the effects of visual feedback during abdominal hollowing (AH) in four point kneeling position, using real-time ultrasound imaging through measurement of the changes in the thickness of transversus abdominis (TrA), internal abdominal oblique (IO), and external abdominal oblique (EO). Methods: The subjects of this study were 32 healthy males who were divided intothe experimental group of 16 subjects and the control group of 16 subjects. The real-time ultrasound feedback was applied to the experimental group while they were educated on the AH exercise in four point kneeling whereas only general education and training were given to the control group. After the training, the changes in the thickness of abdominal muscles during AH in four point kneeling were compared between the experimental group and the control group. Results: The differences of the changes in the thickness of TrA and EO between the two groups were statistically significant. Conclusion: The experimental group experienced a higher increase in the thickness of TrA than the control group while the thickness of IO and EO of the experimental.

  • Portable sheet resistance-measuring instrument using the dual-configuration Four-Point Probe method is developed for the purpose of precisely measuring the sheet resistance of conducting thin films. While single-configuration Four-Point Probe method has disadvantages of applying sample size, shape and thickness corrections for a probe spacing, the developed instrument has advantages of no such corrections, little edge effects and measuring simply and accurately the sheet resistance between $0.2\Omega/sq$ and $2k\Omega/sq$.

  • The occurrence of unexpected horizontal offset in the instrument or target will result in accumulated horizontal deviation in segment alignment with traditional short-line match method. A geometry control method, the four-point method, is developed for precast segmental bridges to avoid the influences of unexpected horizontal offset. The concept of the four-point method is elucidated. Furthermore, the detailed instruments and instructions are introduced. Finally, the four-point method is validated through a practical engineering application. According to the survey data, after short-line match precast construction, the vertical deviations on both sides vary between -5 mm and 5 mm in almost all segments, and the horizontal deviations vary between -4 mm and 4 mm in all segments. Without on-site adjustment, the maximum vertical and horizontal closure gaps are 12.3 and 26.1 mm, respectively. The four-point method is suggested to alleviate the issues associated with relatively poor soil conditions in casting yard.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to find the effects of the transverse abdominis/internal abdominal oblique (TrA/IO), multifidus (MF) muscles while stabilization exercise was performed in a four-point kneeling position on the unstable surface. Methods : Twenty healthy adults volunteered to participate in this study. Each subject was instructed regarding maximum voluntary isometric contractions (MVIC) and stabilization exercise in four-point kneeling on the unstable surface. While MVIC and stabilization exercise of individual muscles were being performed, activation of the muscles was measured using surface electromyography (EMG). Activation of the muscles while performing stabilization exercise in four-point kneeling on the unstable surface was normalized to a percentages of the MVIC. Results : TrA/IO, MF muscles showed no significant differences among the surfaces. Conclusion : Activation of the trunk muscles while performing stabilization exercise in four-point kneeling does not effect on the surface.

  • An intralaboratory comparison of the realization of the triple-point temperature of mercury, which is defined as -38.8344℃ on the international temperature scale of 1990 (ITS-90), was conducted at the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS), the national metrology institute of Korea. To this end, four triple-point-of-mercury cells were compared using the resistance ratio measurement of a standard platinum resistance thermometer to validate the calibration results obtained using the triple-point-of-mercury cells at KRISS. The triple-point temperatures of all the four cells, one of which is designated as the national standard cell, were within 0.3 mK of the national standard. Based on 13 experiments on the four triple-point-of-mercury cells, the uncertainty in the comparison of the triple-point-of-mercury cells was 0.08 mK, and the uncertainty in the realization of the triple-point temperature of mercury was 0.19 mK. The results of the intralaboratory comparison validated that utilizing any of the four triple-point-of-mercury cells would result in the realization of a temperature within 0.3 mK of the average value determined by two key international comparisons for the realization of -38.3844℃ following the ITS-90.

  • In order to design effectively the grounding system, it is very important to determine the optimum soil resistivity at the desired location of the connection to earth. This paper deals with the reasonable methods of measuring the soil resistivity where grounding electrodes are buried. The soil resistivity at three test sites with different resistivity of soil were measured as functions of the spacing between the test probes in the Wenner's four-point method and the length of test ground rod in the three-point method. In the case of the three-point method, the length of test ground rod of 2-10[m] in length was appropriate in two-layered soil structure. In the length range of 2-10[m], the results measured by the three-point method using the test ground rod with the length corresponding to the spacing between the test probes of the Wenner's four-point method are in good agreement with the data obtained from the Wenner's four-point method.

  • In this paper, we considered the following four-point boundary value problem $\{{x"(t)+h(t)f(t,x(t),x'(t))=0,\;0<t<1\atop%20x'(0)=ax(\xi),\;x'(1)=bx(\eta)}\$. where $0\;<\;{\xi}\;<\;{\eta}\;<\;1,\;{\delta}\;=\;ab{\xi}\;-\;ab{\eta}\;+\;a\;-\;b\;<\;0,\;0\;<\;a\;<\;\frac{1}{\xi},\;0\;<\;b\;<\;\frac{1}{\eta}$. After the discussion of the Green function of the corresponding homogeneous system, we establish some criteria for the existence of positive solutions by using the generalized Leggett-William's fixed point theorem. The interesting point is the expression of the Green function, which is a difficulty for multi-point BVP.
