ANSYS is a software well accepted by professionals and academics, since it provides a variety of finite elements, material constitutive models, and linear and nonlinear analysis of structures in general. For the concrete material, for instance, the software uses an elastoplastic model with the Willam-Warnke surface of rupture (1975). However, this model is only available for finite elements that do not offer the possibility of use of the element-embedded model for rebars, demanding a much larger amount of elements to discretize structures, making numerical solutions less efficient. This study is, therefore, about the development of a computational model using the Finite Element Method via ANSYS platform for nonlinear analysis of reinforced and prestressed concrete beams under plane stress states. The most significant advantage of this implementation is the possibility of using the element-embedded rebar model in ANSYS with its 2D eight-node quadratic element PLANE183 for discretization of the concrete together with element REINF263 for discretization of rebars, stirrups, and cables, making the solutions faster and more efficient. For representation of the constitutive equations of the steel and the concrete, a proposed model was implemented with the help of the UPF customization tool (User Programmable Features) of ANSYS, where new subroutines written in FORTRAN were attached to the main program. The numerical results are compared with experimental values available in the technical literature to validate the proposed model, with satisfactory results being found.
The CAD/CAM system for the manufacturing automation is the newest technology in mechanical engineering area and becomes the important research subject nowadays. Most of all hardwares and softwares for the CAD/CAM system used in the our manufacturing companies such as automobile company are developed by the foreign country and the purchasing price of them is very expensive but their applicability to a certain area is very limited. This study was conducted to develope a CAD/CAM system for the design and the automatic manufacturing of the iron pattern shaped with 3 - dimensional free curved surface, and to test its applicability to the design and the manufacturing of the rotary blade. The results obtained from the study are as follow; 1. The CAD system which can process graphic procedures from the free curved surface shaped data was developed with personal computer. 2. The CAM main program was developed. This main program could produce CL data from CAD data file by checking the tool interference according to the cutting mode. 3. The sub. program which can simulate the tool trace from the CL data was developed. 4. The post processor for the Deckel FP2NC NC milling machine from CL data file was developed and the sub program could transmit NC program through modem to NC milling machine was developed. 5. The developed CAM system seemed to be applicable to any other system. Because the measuring results of the cross sectional thickness of the plastic model from the manufacturing iron pattern by the system showed that this system could properly check the tool interference. 6. In took 75~90 hours to manufacture two iron patterns of rotary blade. For the sake of convenience in applying to the other systems, this system was developed in BASIC and FORTRAN computer language and minimum portion of machine language as possible.
It is well known that the height of tank metacenter above the centroid of fluid in a tank is given by i/v where I is the inertia moment of free surface and v is the fluid volume. It is supposed in this formula that the inclination of ship is small and that the free surface of fluid do not touch the top and the bottom of tank. It the inclination of ship is large, the height of tank metacenter may be possibly greater than that given by i/v. The height of tank metacenter is smaller than i/v when the free surface of fluid touch the top or the bottom of tank. The reasonable method to calculate the height of tank metacenter is presented in this paper and prepared in FORTRAN program by FUNCTION EFFRES. The approximate formula was also developed and given by $g_m=(1+\frac{2}{1}tan^2\theta)[1-EXP\{-12(\frac{\alpha(1-\alpha)k}{tan\theta})^{1.25}\}]\frac{i}{v}$ where $g_m$ is the distance from the centroid of fluid to the tank metacenter, $\theta$ is inclined angle of ship, $\alpha$ is the ratio of filled volume to tank capacity and k is the ratio of the depth to the width of tank. The values calculated by the approximate formula given in this paper were compared with the exact values from the computer program and proved out to be sufficiently precise for practical use.

Under the government supported long-term nuclear R&D program, the severe accident research program at KAERI is directed to investigate unresolved severe accident issues such as core debris coolability, steam explosions, and hydrogen combustion both experimentally and numerically. Extensive studies have been performed to evaluate the in-vessel retention of core debris through external reactor vessel cooling concept for APR1400 as a severe accident management strategy. Additionally, an improvement of the insulator design outside the vessel was investigated. To address steam explosions, a series of experiments using a prototypic material was performed in the TROI facility. Major parameters such as material composition and void fraction as well as the relevant physics affecting the energetics of steam explosions were investigated. For hydrogen control in Korean nuclear power plants, evaluation of the hydrogen concentration and the possibility of deflagration-to-detonation transition occurrence in the containment using three-dimensional analysis code, GASFLOW, were performed. Finally, the integrated severe accident analysis code, MIDAS, has been developed for domestication based on MELCOR. The data transfer scheme using pointers was restructured with the modules and the derived-type direct variables using FORTRAN90. New models were implemented to extend the capability of MIDAS.

The existing EMTP(Electromagnetic Transients Program) is writted by FORTRAN-77, has a closed architecture and uses a large number of code lines to satisfy requirements ranging from low level data manipulation to the actual solution mathematics which eventually become diluted and almost impossible to visualize. Thus has a difficulty in the development and maintenenace of its program module. This paper proposes a new design idea suitable (or a re-development of EMTP using the MATLAB and VISUAL-C++, which presents the development of the new EMTP package is operated in the window environment. The package has the GUI(Graphic User Interface) ability, and the MATLAB computation engine for an analysis of a transient state in an electric circuit.

Presented in this paper is a procedure of developing graphical simulation software for planning robot welding processes. Welding is by far the highest application area for industrial robots, and it has been in great need of such a simulator in designing robot work cells, in justifying the economics of robot welding and in planning robotized welding operations. The model of a robot welding cell consists of four components: They are an welding structure which is a collection of plates to be welded, a positioner to hold the welding structure, a robot with a weld torch, and a set of welding lines (in case of arc welding). Welding structure is modeled by using the reference plane concept and is represented as boundary file which is widely used in solid modeling. Robot itself is modeled as a kinematic linkage system. Also included in the model are such technical constraints as weaving patterns and inclination allowances for each weld joint type. An interactive means is provided to input the welding structure and welding lines on a graphics terminal. Upon completion of input, the program displays the welding structure and welding lines and calculates the center of mass which is used in determining positioner configurations. For a given positioner and robot configuration, the welding line segments that can be covered by the robot are identified, enabling to calculate the robot weld ratio and cycle time. The program is written in FORTRAN for a VAX computer with a Tektronix 4114 graphic terminal.

This work was focused on the material parameter extraction for the isothermal cyclic deformation analysis for which Chaboche(Combined Nonlinear Isotropic and Kinematic Hardening) and Overlay(Multi Linear Hardening) models are normally used. In this study all the parameters were driven especially based on Overlay theories. A simple method is suggested to find out best material parameters for the cyclic deformation analysis prior to the isothermal LCF(Low Cycle Fatigue) analysis. The parameter extraction was done using 400 series stainless steel data which were published in the reference papers. For simple and quick review of the parameters extracted by suggested method, 1D FORTRAN program was developed, and this program could reduce the time for checking the material data tremendously. For the application to FE code ABAQUS user subroutine for the material models was developed by means of UMAT(User Material Subroutine), and the stabilized hysteresis loops obtained by the numerical analysis were in good harmony with test results.
Monte Carlo method is one of the powerful engineering tools especially to solve the complex non-linear problems. The Monte Carlo method gives approximate solution to a variety of mathematical problems by performing statistical sampling experiments on a computer. One of the methods to predict the time dependent failure probability of one of the bridge components or the bridge system is a lifetime function. In this paper, FORTRAN program is developed to predict the failure probability of bridge components or bridge system by using both system reliability and lifetime function. Monte Carlo method is used to generate the parameters of the lifetime function. As a case study, the program is applied to the concrete-steel bridge to predict the failure probability.

Low-tension cables have been increasingly used in recent years due to deep-sea developments and the advent of synthetic cables. In the case of low-tension cables, large displacements may happen due to relatively small restoring forces of tension and thus the effects of fluid and geometric non-linearities become predominant. In this study, three-dimensional (3-D) dynamic behavior of a towed low-tension cable with non-uniform characteristics is numerically analyzed by considering fluid and geometric non-linearities and bending stiffness. A Fortran program is developed by employing a finite difference method. In the algorithm, an implicit time integration and Newton-Raphson iteration are adopted. For the calculation of huge size of matrices, block tri-diagonal matrix method is applied, which is much faster than the well-known Gauss-Jordan method in two point boundary value problems. Some case studies are carried out and the results of numerical simulations are compared with a in-house program of WHOI Cable with good agreements.

Applicability of 8 day interval flow data for the calibration of hydrologic model was evaluated using Hydrological Simulation Program-Fortran (HSPF) at Kyungan watershed. The 8 day interval flow monitored by Ministry of Environment located at upstream was calibrated and periodically validated during 2004-2008. And continuous daily flow monitored by Ministry of Construction & Transportation (MOCT) and located at the mouth was compared with daily simulated data during 2004-2007 as spatial validation. Automatic calibration tool which is Model-Independent Parameter Estimation & Uncertainty Analysis (PEST) was applied for HSPF calibration procedure. The model efficiencies for calibration and periodic validation were 0.63 and 0.88, and model performances were fair and very good, respectively, based on criteria of calibration tolerances. Continuous daily stream flow at the mouth of Kyungan watershed were good agreement with observed continuous daily stream flow with showing 0.63 NS value. The PEST program is very useful tool for HSPF hydrologic calibration using non-continuous daily stream flow as well as continuous daily stream flow. The 8 day interval flow data monitored by MOE could be used to calibrate hydrologic model if the continuous daily stream flow is unavailable.
