  • The purpose of this study is to develop and validate a model for diagnosing core competencies at the higher education level. Based on literature reviews, a potential model for core competencies at university was suggested. A tool for validating the model was composed of 24 items, which were delivered to 226 professors and administrative staffs, 730 students, and 134 graduates & external industrial experts. Five constructs (core competencies) were extracted from the data collected among professors and administrative staff responding to the importance of the items. The results of importance and performance surveys on core competencies with students were respectively 3.28 to 3.66 and 2.68 to 3.28 (4-point Likert scale). Statistical differences between importance level and performance level were found in all the sub-categories of core competencies. Borich priority determination formula and Locus for Focus Model were used for the determination of the priority of needs. Importance survey among graduates and external experts showed that the mean of each items ranged from 2.80 to 3.76 (4-point Likert scale). The overall results of the analyses suggest that the final model is appropriate for measuring the core competencies.

  • Recently, software education has been emphasized as a key element of the fourth industrial revolution. Many universities are strengthening the software education for all students according to the needs of the times. The use of online content is an effective way to introduce SW education for all students. However, the provision of uniform online contents has limitations in that it does not consider individual characteristics(major, sw interest, comprehension, interests, etc.) of students. In this study, we propose a recommendation method that utilizes the directional similarity between contents in the boolean view history data environment. We propose a new item-based recommendation formula that uses the confidence value of association rule analysis as the similarity level and apply it to the data of domestic paid contents site. Experimental results show that the recommendation accuracy is improved than when using the traditional collaborative recommendation using cosine or jaccard for similarity measurements.

  • The rapid development of the economy has compelled the widen of highways, and the main challenge of this undertaking lies in the uneven settlement of road embankments. Through field and numerical experiments, this study explores the deformation mechanism of shallow buried pipelines due to road widening. The utilization of Plaxis3D software, which is adapt at simulating complex engineering geological conditions, enables the simulation of the settlement of both the central and right-side road embankments. Comparing with other numerical software such as ABAQUS and COMSOL, Plaxis provided more constitutive models including HS, HSS and Hoek-Brown model. The work concludes that the uneven settlement of road cross-sections is positively correlated with the horizontal distance from the pipeline, with a maximum settlement of 73 mm observed after construction. Furthermore, based on the Winkler's assumption, theoretical settlement and stress calculation methods are established. Results indicate that the maximum difference between the calculated values of this formula and simulated values is 1.9% and 7%, respectively. Additionally, the study investigates the stress and settlement of the pipeline's top under different angles to understand its behavior under various conditions. It finds that with traffic loads applied to the new embankment, a lever effect occurs on the lower pipeline, with the fulcrum located within the central isolation zone, leading to a transition in curve type from "single peak and single valley" to "double peak and single valley." Moreover, the settlement of pipelines on both sides of the central isolation zone and the normal stress of the pipeline's top section are symmetrical.

  • In this paper we study formulae of the triangle's area. We solve problems related with making new formulae of the triangle's area. These formulae is consisted of some elements of triangle, for example side, angle, median, perimeter, radius of circumcircle. We transform formulae $S=\frac{1}{2}acsinB$, $S=\frac{abc}{4R}$, $S=\sqrt{p(p-a)(p-b)(p-c)}$, and make new formulae of the triangle's area. Some formulas are received in the process of Research and Education program in the science high school. We expect that our results will be used in the Research and Education program in the science high school.

  • The first accurate estimate of the Earth's circumference was made by the Hellenism scientist Eratosthenes (276-195 B.C.) in about 240 B.C. The simplicity and elegance of Eratosthenes' measurement of the circumference of the Earth by mathematics abstraction strategies were an excellent example of ancient Greek ingenuity. Eratosthenes's success was a triumph of logic and the scientific method, the method required that he assume that Sun was so far away that its light reached Earth along parallel lines. That assumption, however, should be supported by another set of measurements made by the ancient Hellenism, Aristarchus, namely, a rough measurement of the relative diameters and distances of the Sun and Moon. Eratosthenes formulated the simple proportional formula, by mathematic abstraction strategies based on perfect sphere and a simple mathematical rule as well as in the geometry in this world. The Earth must be a sphere by a logical and empirical argument of Aristotle, based on the Greek word symmetry including harmony and beauty of form. We discuss the justification of these three bold assumptions for mathematical abstraction of Eratosthenes's experiment for calculating the circumference of the Earth, and justifying all three assumptions from historical perspective for mathematics and science education. Also it is important that the simplicity about the measurement of the earth's circumstance at the history of science.

  • Background: For early detection of renal damage during the usage of cisplatin based chemotherapy, changes in renal function should be monitored carefully. In recent years, neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin, a small polypeptide molecule, has shown promise as a marker of acute renal failure. The aim of this present study was to assess possible risk prediction of cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity using serum NGAL. Materials and Methods: A total of 34 consecutive patients with documented serum creatinine at least 24 hours before every cycle of cisplatin-based chemotherapy were included in the study. Demographic and medical data including age, performance status, tumor characteristics and comorbid diseases were collected from medical charts. Renal function was evaluated at least 48 hours before the treatment and at the end of the treatment based on the Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) formula. Before and after cisplatin infusion serum NGAL levels were measured for the first and 3rd cycles of chemotherapy. Results: The median age of the study population was 54 (32-70) years. Fifteen patients (41.1%) were treated on an adjuvant basis, whereas 19 patients (58.9%) were treated for metastatic disease. There was no correlation of serum NGAL levels with serum creatinine (r=0.20, p=0.26) and MDRD (r=-0.12, p=0.50) and creatinine clearance-Cockcroft-Gault (r=-0.22, p=0.22) after cisplatin infusion at the end of the 3rd cycle of chemotherapy. Conclusions: In our study, serum NGAL levels were not correlated with the cisplatin induced nephrotoxicity. Further prospective studies are needed to conclude that serum NGAL level is not a good surrogate marker to predict early cisplatin induced nephrotoxicity.

  • Although breastfeeding is recognized to be vital to the health and well-being of children and women, the rate of breastsfeeding among Korean women has continuously decreased. One barrier to breastfeeding has been identified to be associated with health care providers. Health care professionals do not give sufficient advice and encouragement, next do hospitals provide supportive environments for breastfeeding by separating infants from mothers or providing formula. The purpose of this study was to investigate prenatal breastfeeding education and infant feeding practices in public health centers and baby-friendly hospitals. A telephone survey was carried out on 57 public health centers located in the Seoul and Chungcheong areas and 13 baby-freindly hospitals from February to April in 2000. Among the public health centers, 43.8% offered periodic prenatal education for pregnant women who visited the centers. Most of them used leaflets or pamphlets developed by the Ministry of Health and Welfare or UNICEF. Twenty six percent of the public health centers developed their own educational materials. All of the 13 baby-friendly hospitals gave additional fluids to infants, did not allow mothers and infants to stay together 24 hours a day, and did not foster the establishment of breatfeeding support groups among the mothers. Most of the baby-friendly hospitals gave artificial teats, did not help mothers initiate breastfeeding within a half-hour of birth. Findings indicate that current practices even in the baby-friendly hospitals are not consistent with the '10 steps to success breastfeeding'. Therefore, deliberate efforts should be made to incorporate adequate breastfeeding education into prenatal program in both public health centers and hospitals, and create environments to support breastfeeding in hospitals, even in baby-friendly hospitals.

  • Recently, domestic schools are increasingly interested in environmental education related to COVID-19 and the severe climate crisis, as well as artificial intelligence education related to the 4th industrial revolution that is rapidly approaching us. In particular, AI education is highly likely to be applied to 5th to 6th graders of elementary school, so measures related to connection with 1st to 4th graders are needed. There are many students who are not proficient in computers in the lower grades of elementary school, so there may be many restrictions in using the currently used teaching aids. Therefore, this study tried to develop an artificial intelligence education program for the lower grades of elementary school to secure the linkage of artificial intelligence education. The theme of the program was developed based on the topic of environmental education, which has recently increased in interest. As for the educational method, considering the developmental stage of the lower grades of elementary school, the STEAM education method was used, which was fused with various subjects and unplugged using play and games without a computer. of the program. For validity verification, Lawshe (1975)'s content validity ratio (CVR) calculation formula was used. The verification results were analyzed to be suitable for the purpose of development of all programs. In the future, it is necessary to measure the degree of effectiveness by applying the program proposed in this study to the lower grades of elementary school.

  • This study is to diversely analyze teachers' Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) regarding to the area of plane figures and discuss the consideration for the materialization of the effective class in learning the area of plane figures by identifying the improvements based on problems indicated in PCK. The subjects of inquiry are what the problems with teachers' PCK regarding to the area of plane figures are and how they can be improved. In which is the first domain of PCK, teachers need to fully understand the concept of the area and the properties and classification of the area and length, recognized the sequence structure as a subject of guidance and improve the direction which naturally connects the flow of measurement by using random units in guidance of the area. In which is the second domain of PCK, teachers need to establish understanding of the concept for the area and understanding of a formula as a subject matter object and improve the activity, discovery and research oriented class for students as a guidance method by escaping from teacher oriented expository class and calculation oriented repetitive learning. They also need to avoid the biased evaluation of using a formula and evenly evaluate whether students understand the concept of the area as a performance evaluation method. In which is the third domain of PCK, teachers need to fully understand the concept of the area rather than explanation oriented correction and fundamentally teach students about errors by suggesting the activity to explore the properties of the area and length. They also need to plan a method to reflect student's affective aspects besides a compliment and encouragement and apply this method to the class. In which is the fourth domain of PCK, teachers need to increase the use of random units by having an independent consciousness about textbooks and supplementing the activity of textbooks and restructure textbooks by suggesting problematic situations in a real life and teaching the sequence structure. Also, class groups will need to be divided into an entire group, individual group, partner group and normal group.
