  • There are various parameter estimation methods for the generalized exponential distribution under progressive type I interval censoring. Chen and Lio (2010) studied the parameter estimation method by the maximum likelihood estimation method, mid-point approximation method, expectation maximization algorithm and methods of moments. Among those, mid-point approximation method has the smallest mean square error in the generalized exponential distribution under progressive type I interval censoring. However, this method is difficult to derive closed form of solution for the parameter estimation using by maximum likelihood estimation method. In this paper, we propose two type of approximate maximum likelihood estimate to solve that problem. The simulation results show the obtained estimators have good performance in the sense of the mean square error. And proposed method derive closed form of solution for the parameter estimation from the generalized exponential distribution under progressive type I interval censoring.

  • For coastal service ships, the water depth is a very important parameter in the design stage of the hull form that has an influence on the restriction of the speed and draft of ships. In this study, the water depth is important for ship design. In this research, the change of total resistance, trim and sinkage due to the variation of water depth are measured by using on equipment for shallow water condition. For the basic research step about the shallow water effect, the effects on Series60($C_B=0.6$) hull form are experimented. To compare with existing experiment results, the test conditions are same with those. The water depth conditions are 10, 15, 20, 25% of LPP of the model ship, respectively.

  • It is becoming more significant to develop a rotary voice coil motor(VCM) type's actuator for small form factor (SFF) optical disk drive(ODD), as portables are getting more and more popularized nowadays. The actuator which is applicable to small-sized ODD with a compact flash(CF) II card size was developed and fabricated. The experimental results showed that the finite element(FE) model is different from the fabricated model. And so flexible mode frequencies did not satisfy specifications of small-sized ODD, and tuning. Tuning procedures were required to improve dynamic characteristics of the fabricated actuator through finite difference method(FDM). At first, design variables were extracted through parameter study and the tuned FE model was improved by design of experiment(DOE). Consequently, It was confirmed that the improved model was applicable to SFF ODD.

  • The dynamic response of Euler-Bernoulli beams to resonant harmonic moving loads is analysed. The non-dimensional form of the motion equation of a beam crossed by a moving harmonic load is solved through a perturbation technique based on a two-scale temporal expansion, which permits a straightforward interpretation of the analytical solution. The dynamic response is expressed through a harmonic function slowly modulated in time, and the maximum dynamic response is identified with the maximum of the slow-varying amplitude. In case of ideal Euler-Bernoulli beams with elastic rotational springs at the support points, starting from analytical expressions for eigenfunctions, closed form solutions for the time-history of the dynamic response and for its maximum value are provided. Two dynamic factors are discussed: the Dynamic Amplification Factor, function of the non-dimensional speed parameter and of the structural damping ratio, and the Transition Deamplification Factor, function of the sole ratio between the two non-dimensional parameters. The influence of the involved parameters on the dynamic amplification is discussed within a general framework. The proposed procedure appears effective also in assessing the maximum response of real bridges characterized by numerically-estimated mode shapes, without requiring burdensome step-by-step dynamic analyses.

  • Here we present a study of small-amplitude, shallow water waves on sloping beds. The beds considered in this analysis are linear and quadratic in nature. First we start with stating the relevant governing equations and boundary conditions for the theory of water waves. Once the complete prescription of the water-wave problem is available based on some assumptions (like inviscid, irrotational flow), we normalize it by introducing a suitable set of non-dimensional variables and then we scale the variables with respect to the amplitude parameter. This helps us to characterize the various types of approximation. In the process, a summary of equations that represent different approximations of the water-wave problem is stated. All the relevant equations are presented in rectangular Cartesian coordinates. Then we derive the equations and boundary conditions for small-amplitude and shallow water waves. Two specific types of bed are considered for our calculations. One is a bed with constant slope and the other bed has a quadratic form of surface. These are solved by using separation of variables method.

  • Overlap is one of the techniques for increasing bit rate in chirp spread spectrum (CSS). More overlaps can offer higher data throughput; however, they may cause more intersymbol interference (ISI) at the same time, resulting in serious bit error rate (BER) performance degradation. Thus, the number of overlaps should be decided according to the required BER performance. In this paper, we derive a closed form expression for BER of the overlap-based CSS system, exploiting the approximated Gaussian Q function. The derived BER expression includes the number of overlaps as a parameter, and thus, would be very useful in determining the number of overlaps for a specified BER. The numerical results demonstrate that the BER derived in a closed form closely agrees with the simulated BER.

  • The performance of interrupted cutting operations like milling is consideraly affected by cuter runout. In this study, cutter runout is selected as an important machining parameter for evaluation of machinability in ball-end milling and caused from misalignments of tool and holder, unbalanced mass of parts and tool deflection under machining. To evaluate the machinability due to cutter runout, the rotating accuracy of spindle, cutting force and surface roughness are measured. The rotating characteristics of spindle in each revolution speed were investigated by cutter runout in freeload. The predicted surface form of workpiece by measuring cutter runout data was compared with real surfaces. The results show that measuring runout with high response gap sensor is useful for studying the phenomenon of high-speed machining and the monitor surface form using in-process runout measurements in ball-end milling is possible.

  • The thickness ranges and conditions to form the supersaturated solid solution in Al-Cr alloys were investigated with various rapid solidification conditions. Al-Cr alloys, rapidly solidified by using the small droplet chill quenching method, were examined by means of micro-vickers hardness, lattice parameter, thermal analysis and microscopic observation. The results obtained were as follows; 1. With the increase of solidification rate, the solidified structures were changed to intermetallic compound + solid solution, incompletely supersaturated solid solution, completely supersaturated solid solution, in turn. 2. The minimum solidification rate required to form completely supersaturated solid solution was $2.5{\times}10^{-2}cm/sec$, $3.6{\times}10^{-2}cm/sec$ and $6.0{\times}10^{-2}cm/sec$ for Al-1.0wt%Cr, Al-1,2wt%Cr and Al-1.5wt%Cr, respectively. 3. The maximum distance from the chill surface required to form completely supersaturated solid solution was 5mm, 1.3mm and 0.3mm for Al-1.0wt%Cr, Al-1.2wt%Cr and Al-1.5wt% Cr, respectively.

  • A windowless spallation target can provide a neutron source and maintain neutron chain reaction for a subcritical reactor, and is a key component of China's nuclear waste transmutation of coupling accelerator and subcritical reactor. The main issue of the windowless target design is to form a stable and controllable free surface that can ensure that energy spectrum distribution is acquired for the neutron physical design when the high energy proton beam beats the lead-bismuth eutectic in the spallation target area. In this study, morphology and flow characteristics of the free surface of the windowless target were analyzed through the volume of fluid model using computational fluid dynamics simulation, and the results show that the outlet cross section size of the target is the key to form a stable and controllable free surface, as well as the outlet with an arc transition. The optimization parameter of the target design, in which the radius of outlet cross section is $60{\pm}1mm$, is verified to form a stable and controllable free surface and to reduce the formation of air bubbles. This work can function as a reference for carrying out engineering design of windowless target and for verification experiments.

  • An URL parameter can hold some information that is confidential or vulnerable to illegitimate tampering. We propose Link-E-Param(Link with Encrypted Parameters) to protect the whole URL parameter names as well as their values. Unlike other techniques concealing only some of the URL parameters, it will successfully discourage attacks based on URL analysis to steal secret information on the Web sites. We implement Link-E-Param in the form of a servlet filter to be deployed on any Java Web server by simply copying a jar file and setting a few configuration values. Thus it can be used for any existing Web application without modifying the application. It also supports numerous encryption algorithms to choose from. Experiments show that our implementation induces only 2~3% increase in user response time due to encryption and decryption, which is deemed acceptable.
