The Effects of the Group Forgiveness Program on Anger, Anxiety and Depression for Female Elders (용서프로그램이 여성노인의 분노, 불안, 우울에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of group forgiveness program for female elders who had deep and unfair personal hurt experiences from their social relationships. Subjects were divided into 2 groups. The sample was comprised of 20 elders, capable of verbal communication. Experimental and control groups composed of elders, each 2 elders dropped out of each group due to personal reasons. Experimental group completed a total of eight consecutive group forgiveness program sessions that combined listening and supportive techniques. Additionally, qualitative investigations were also done through interviews and observations. Following the intervention, experimental group experienced a significant improvement in degree of forgiveness(t=3.05, p<.01), anger(t=3.78, p<.01), anxiety(F=5.93, p<.05), depression(F=16.73, p<.01). Qualitative analysis also resulted that the elderly relationships were changing positively. This study implies that group forgiveness program was effective in improving elder's degree of forgiveness and reducing anger, anxiety and depression so that the participants were to value their whole life more.

Effects of a Forgiveness Nursing Intervention Program on Hope and Quality of life in Woman Cancer Patients (용서간호중재 프로그램이 여성 암환자의 희망과 삶의 질에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analysis the effects of a forgiveness nursing intervention program on hope and quality of life in woman with cancer. Methods: The used design was a nonequivalent control group design with pretest and post-test. Thirty patients diagnosed with uterine cervical cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer were recruited from a University Hospital in Busan, Korea. An experimental group (n=15) was given the forgiveness nursing intervention program, and a control group (n=15) was done a common nursing intervention. The period of data collection was from June 10 to September 10, 2004. The obtained data were analyzed using ${\chi}^2-test$, Fisher's exact test, t-test, and ANCOVA. Results: The first hypothesis, "The experimental group would have higher hope state than control group" was supported(F =16.967, p = .000). The second hypothesis, "The experimental group would have higher quality of life state than control group" was supported (F =4.850, p =.036). Conclusions: The findings showed that the forgiveness nursing intervention program was effective to increase hope and quality of life in women with cancer. Therefore, this program may be used for a nursing practice for cancer patients who are suffering from emotional distress.

Perceived Hurts and Forgiveness in Clinical Nurses - The Status and Influencing Variables - (임상간호사의 주관적 상처와 용서 - 실태와 관련변인 -)

  • Purpose: The purposes of this study were to describe events resulting in perceived hurts in nursing, and to identify factors influencing forgiveness in clinical nurses. Methods: The study was a descriptive correlation design. From May to July, 2009, the researcher used interviews to collect data from 148 clinical nurses from five hospitals in D city. Results: Clinical nurses received perceived hurt from peer-nurses, care-givers, and doctors, and the reasons for the perceived hurts were blame, neglect, and valuation. Levels of forgiveness in clinical nurses were different according to who caused the perceived hurt, the degree of the perceived hurt, and endeavors to resolve the perceived hurts. Levels of forgiveness in clinical nurses were negatively correlated with age, degree of perceived hurt, and degree of anger expression, and positively correlated with degree of self-esteem. The strongest predictors of forgiveness in clinical nurses were degree of anger expression, age, and degree of hurt. Conclusion: The findings of the study suggest that nursing staff should be able to identify reasons for perceived hurt in clinical nurses and provide a forgiveness program for each nursing situation.

  • Y$\grave{u}$zh$\grave{e}$ng(鬱證) comes from obstruction of qi by stress. The patient has depressed mood, irritable sign, chest discomfort, costal pain, angry state or some strange feeling on the throat. Oh-Ji-Sang-Seung(五志相勝) therapy is base on the theory of interrelation in five elements in oriental medicine. The contents of Oh-Ji-Sang-Seung(五志相勝) therapy include five subjugations of five emotions. Anxiety subjugates fear(思勝恐), fear subjugates joy(恐勝喜), joy subjugates pity(喜勝悲), pity subjugates anger(悲勝怒), and anger subjugates anxiety(怒勝思). Forgiveness program is a kind of psychological therapies to decrease the degree of anger and it is included in Oh-Ji-Sang-Seung(五志相勝) therapy. In this case, a female patient, 50 years old, who suffered from Y$\grave{u}$zh$\grave{e}$ng(鬱證) with chest discomfort, irritable sign, easily angry state, depressed mood, hot flush, insomnia. We used Oh-Ji-Sang-Seung(五志相勝) therapy besides herbal medication, acupuncture to her condition got improved. Therefore we reported it for the treatment.

  • This study examined the level of resilience and forgiveness, which are important factors of the future competencies of university students. First, a liberal arts course based on mindfulness theory, "Future Society and understanding of the human mind," was developed with expert validity. This class was opened as a liberal arts class. A test of resilience test and forgiveness scale were conducted before and after the class to determine if there was any change in the level of resilience and forgiveness of university students. There were 18 students in the experimental group and 21 general students in the control group attending S University in Seoul. In both groups, a structured resilience test and forgiveness scale were conducted before and after the experiment. SPSS 20.0 program was used for data processing, and the effectiveness was analyzed using a t-test, paired t-test, and cohen d score for the effect size. The group that showed an effect was verified by confirming the effect size to determine if it was meaningful. The analysis revealed a significant difference in the total resilience score and the sub-factors in positivity and control ability.

Development of Long Term Education Program for Post-divorce Adjustment (이혼 후 적응을 위한 장기 교육프로그램의 모형개발)

  • This study constructed a family life education program designed to help divorced parents. The purpose of this research was to develop long term education program for post-divorce adjustment. This program is consisted of 6 sessions aiming for understanding the grief process for adults and the six station of divorce, the recovery through forgiveness, children's response to divorce and coping strategy, the opened mind of parent-child relation, enhancing the self-esteem, the healthy single parent. We expect this program to be helpful in helping divorced parents'post-divorce adjustment, improving parent-child relation and helping future life of divorced parents.

  • The purpose of this research was to develop the education program for post-divorce adjustment and to evaluate effectiveness of the program. This program was consisted of eight sessions and applied to divorced parents. It was focused for the understanding of grief processes for adults, recovery by forgiveness, children's responses and coping strategies to divorce, open minded relationship between parents and children, and enhancement of self-esteem to be healthy single parent. Results of paired t-test showed that there were significant differences between pre-test and post-test, and the effectiveness remained until follow-up. In conclusion, this program was thought to be effective for improving self-esteem, divorce coping competency and minimizing of the depressions. Continual education is thought to be necessary for maintaining of the effectiveness to the divorced parents.

Effects of Experience of Suffering, Self-forgiveness and Emotional Expression of Loss on Nurses' Attitude toward Dignified Death (간호사의 고통경험, 자기용서 및 상실에 대한 정서표현이 품위 있는 죽음태도에 미치는 요인)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of suffering experience, self-forgiveness and emotional expression of loss on nurses' attitude toward dignified death. Methods: The subjects in this study were 140 nurses, had been working over 6 months in a general hospital. Data were collected from July 1 to August 31 2016, by using self-reported questionnaires. Data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS 19.0 programs. Results: The significant predictors that affected nurses' attitude toward dignified death were experience of suffering, emotional expression of loss, religion and educational level. The explained variance for nurses' attitude toward dignified death was 63.9% and the most significant factor was emotional expression of loss. Conclusion: These results suggest that attitude toward dignified death of nurses can be changed positively by communicating emotional expression of loss and their suffering experience.

Development and Effect Verification of Well-being Enhancement Program for the Korean Female Elderly Living Alone (한국여성 독거노인을 위한 웰빙 증진 프로그램 개발 및 효과분석)

  • This study aims to develop well-being enhancement program for the female elderly living alone, and examine its effects. The program was structured by exploring the meaning of life and happiness with focused on self-disclosure, dealing with regret and resentment, forgiveness, gratitude, and resilience. At first, pilot program was applied to 6 female elderly living alone for predicting the effects and modified the program. For verification of the program effect, 11 female elderly living alone were assigned to developed well-being enhancement program, also 11 female elderly living alone were assigned to comparison group who participate in activity-focused program, and 12 female elderly living alone were assigned to control group. Results indicated that regret for interpersonal relations and resentment of the female elderly living alone who participate in well-being enhancement program were reduced after participating the program, while their self-disclosure increased. The female elderly living alone who participate in well-being enhancement program showed lowered level of anxiety, loneliness, and awareness of aging, which were factors of well-bing in senescence. Moreover, their level of negative emotion was decreased, and life satisfaction, positive emotion, and happiness were increased after participating the program. But, all of those enhancement were not found in control group as well as comparison group. These results suggest that well-being enhancement program for the female elderly living alone developed in this study could be utilized in various settings.

A Study on the Subjectivity of Care Needs for Hospice Patients (호스피스 대상자의 돌봄 요구 유형에 관한 주관성 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to identify types of care needs for hospice patients through Q- methodology. Method: Twenty three Q-statements were selected through in-depth interviews of hospice patients. Data were collected from 20 hospice patients by sorting 23 Q-statements into 9 points standard and then analyzed using PC QUANL program. Result: Type 1 was named 'the need for pain control type' and patients of this type had the greatest need of physical care to be free of pain and be comfortable. Type 2 was named 'the need for love and intimacy type' and patients of this type would like to share love and intimacy with their family members. Type 3 was named 'the needs for reliance on an Absolute Being type' and patients of this type would like to receive forgiveness from their God and prayers. Type 4 was named 'the need for accomplishment and service type' and patients of this type would like to complete their on going work and to give service to others. Conclusion: The study result could be basic data to perform effective nursing interventions for satisfying the care needs of hospice patients.
