Meeting the rapidly increasing demand for natural outdoor recreation, Korea Forestry Administration established 26 places of $\ulcorner$Natural Recreation Forest$\lrcorner$ zones. By 2000 year, 100 zones were planned to cover the entire country. But there was no accurate information about demand of $\ulcorner$Natural Recreation Forest$\lrcorner$. Therefore, this study was carried out to forecast the quantitive demand of $\ulcorner$Natural Recreation Forest$\lrcorner$. To forecast the 'demand of 2001 year, forecasting unit was determined to $\ulcorner$Visitor. Day$\lrcorner$, and three quantifing methods were applied. The results of demand by each forecating method were as follows: 1) Questionnaire survey method for willingness to participate was 16,651,000(visitor. day). 2) application of similiar situation threshold method was 14,540,000(visitor. day). 3) Demand partition method by secondary data was 10,775,000(visitor, day). Comprised of these results. The scope estimate of $\ulcorner$Natural Recreation Forest$\lrcorner$ demand was proposed as 8,110,000(Minimum) - 27,088,000(Miximum). The point estimate of demand which were proposed as strategic guidelines was 16,651,000(visitor. day). These results implied that recently announced 111 predetermined $\ulcorner$Natural Recreation Forest$\lrcorner$ zones supposed to be overcrowded meeting the forcasted demand level of 2001 year.

The impact of urbanization on LST (Land Surface Temperature) and TN (Tropical Night) was observed with the analyses of land cover change and LST by associating with the frequency of TN during the period of 1996 to 2016. The analyses of land cover and LST was based on the images of Landast 5 and 8 for September in 1996, 2006, and 2016 at a 10 year interval. The hourly-collected atmospheric temperatures for the months of July and August during the period were collected from AWSs (Automatic Weather Stations) in Seoul for the frequency analysis of TN. The study area was categorized into five land cover classes: urban or built-up area, forest, mixed vegetation, bare soil and water. It was found that vegetation (-7.71%) and bare soil (-9.04%) decreased during the period while built-up (17.29%) area was expanded throughout the whole period (1996-2016), indicating gradual urbanization. The changes came along with the LST rise in the urban area of built-up and bare soil in Seoul. In addition, the frequency of TN has increased in 4.108% and 7.03% for July and August respectively between the two periods of the 10 year interval, 1996-2006 and 2006-2016. By comparing the increasing trends of land cover, LST, and TN, we found a high probability that the frequency of TN had a relationship with land cover changes by the urbanization process in the study area.

This study was aim to predict future land-cover changes and to analyze regional land-cover changes in irrigation areas and agricultural reservoir watersheds under climate change scenario. To simulate the future land-cover under climate change scenario - A1B of the SRES (Special Report on Emissions Scenarios), Dyna-CLUE (Conversion of Land Use Change and its Effects) was applied for modeling of competition among land-use types in relation to socioeconomic and biophysical driving factors. For the study areas, 8 agricultural reservoirs were selected from 8 different provinces covering all around nation. The simulation results from 2010 to 2100 suggested future land-cover changes under the scenario conditions. For Madun reservoir in Gyeonggi-do, total decrease amount of paddy area was a similar amount of 'Base demand scenario' of Water Vision 2020 published by MLTMA (Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs), while the decrease amounts of paddy areas in other sites were less than the amount of 'High demand scenario' of Water Vision 2020. Under A1B scenario, all the land-cover results showed only slight changes in irrigation areas of agricultural reservoirs and most of agricultural reservoir watersheds will be increased continuously for forest areas. This approach could be useful for evaluating and simulating agricultural water demand in relation to land-use changes.

This study examined spatial disposition of wildlife highway mortality using road-kill GIS database and Naver panoramic 360 degree views to find out which habitat and road variables most influenced road-kill numbers for each mammal species and how the landscape and road elements are connected on highway. Road-kills on Yeongdong(YD) and Jungbu highway(JB) generally tended to be higher in natural barren, grassland and cropland due to its value of preferred habitats of nocturnal and multihabitat species like water deer(Hydropotes inermis argyropus), raccoon(Nyctereutes procyonoides) and hare(Lepus coreanus). Land cover in YD showed no difference between species (p=0.165) while JB did by species (p=0.001). This may be explained by disparate landscape between mountain and urban or the fact that YD in long term operation might have enabled consistent crossing pattern compared to JB experiencing continuous extension works which may in turn have deviated the road crossing. Although road-kill prevention effect of local topography alone was appreciable, compared to less significant or ineffective fence and guardrail, gentle slope declining in a direction to the road turned out to offset the preventive effect of juxtaposed fence. Furthermore, green patches on road near intersection were deemed a visual stepping stone facilitating wildlife attempted crossing and local roads juxtaposed with a highway were especially left defenceless to road-kill without road barriers.
Compact Airborne Spectrographic Imager (CASI) hyperspectral imagery was acquired over the Little Miami River Watershed (1756 square miles) in Ohio, U.S.A., which is one of the largest hyperspectral image acquisition. For the development of a 4m-resolution land cover dataset, a hierarchical approach was employed using two different classification algorithms: 'Image Object Segmentation' for level-1 and 'Spectral Angle Mapper' for level-2. This classification scheme was developed to overcome the spectral inseparability of urban and rural features and to deal with radiometric distortions due to cross-track illumination. The land cover class members were lentic, lotic, forest, corn, soybean, wheat, dry herbaceous, grass, urban barren, rural barren, urban/built, and unclassified. The final phase of processing was completed after an extensive Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) phase. With respect to the eleven land cover class members, the overall accuracy with a total of 902 reference points was 83.9% at 4m resolution. The dataset is available for public research, and applications of this product will represent an improvement over more commonly utilized data of coarser spatial resolution such as National Land Cover Data (NLCD).
CN procedure has been proven to be useful method for evaluating the effects of changes in land-use and treatment on hydrology. In this study, the use of Landsat multi-spectral image was investigated for analyzing the land-use distribution. From the Landsat data, forest areas were classified according to the density of trees. Watershed CN's were calculated to analyze the effects of the density of trees and soil cover types on direct runoff. According to the results, the density of trees had a little effect while soil cover types had a large effect on CN, From the comparison of estimated runoffs from CN method with observed runoffs, detailed soil cover map provides improved results.
This study analyzes structural landscape changes over a time-series for a small and medium-sized city, Gangneung-Si, based on area and distribution patterns, and according to the type of land cover. Among the types of land cover, the area ratio of urbanized areas increased by 2.02% in the late 2010s as compared to the late 1980s, while there was a decrease of 2.69% in farmland and 0.69% in grassland areas. On analyzing the changes in land cover use by applying the Fragstats program, it was confirmed that landscape changes in urban and management areas were relatively severe according to the Landscape Shape Index, Largest Patch Index, and Aggregation Index. A pattern of concentrated expansion was also found around certain areas. In particular, from the analysis, it was established that the proportion of urbanized area had considerably increased and that the extent of farmland damage to management areas, including planned management areas, was large. Additionally, the Total Core Area generally indicated a reduction in the core areas of farmland and forest within urban and management areas. A medium-sized city showed significant changes besides large cities in terms of landscape structure. The developmental pressure on management areas, in particular, was quite high.
This study showed the national ecosystem classification for the spatial standards of ecosystems-based approaches to the risk assessments and adaptation plan. The characteristics of climate change risk assessment, implement national adaptation plans, and ecosystem/habitat classification status was evaluated. Focusing on the land cover classification widely utilized as spatial data for the assessments of biodiversity and ecosystem services in the UK and other countries in Europe, the applicability of the national land cover classification for climate change risk assessments was reviewed. Considering the ecosystem classification for climate change risk assessment and establishing adaptation measures, it is difficult to apply rough classification method to the land cover system because of lack of information on habitat trend by categorization. The results indicated that forest ecosystems and agro-ecosystem occupied 62.3% and 25.0% of land cover, respectively, of the entire country. Although the area is small compared with the land area, wetland ecosystem (2.9%), marine ecosystem (0.4%), coastal ecosystem (0.6%), and urban ecosystem (6.1%) can be included in the risk assessments. Therefore, it is necessary to subdivide below the medium classification for the forest and agricultural land, as well as Inland wetland, which has a higher proportion of habitat preference of taxa than land area, marine/coastal habitat, and transition areas such as urban and natural ecosystem.

Development activities in forest areas are analysed based on degree of slope, altitude, land cover, and prefectures in order to improve the capacity of existing regulations of 'feasibility of forest land conversion' and 'assessment of forest land characteristics' in this research. 959 land based developments between year 2007 and 2013 have been analysed. A development site includes over 50% of forest is categorized as a forest type, degree of slope is steeper than $8.5^{\circ}$ as mountain type, and a development included in the both categories as combined type. Distribution characteristics of the above three types are analysed by development categories and regions adopting Relative Mountain Development Index(RMDI). In results, 44.94% of total development activities have been carried out in Gyeongsang Do in order of urban development, industrial complex, sports facilities, and soil and stone collection quarrying. Developments less than $0.3km^2$ which are exempt from the feasibility of forest land conversion regulation consist 86 cases of forest type, 78 cases in mountain type, and 78 cases in combined type. SAI by slope range showed the highest value of 1.55 in less than $5^{\circ}$ and the lowest value of 0.69 between $20^{\circ}-25^{\circ}$. RMDI value in Gyeongsang Do where mountain ratio is 67.05% appeared 1.17, which is 5 times more than Gangwon Do where mountain area ratio is 81.30%, and 2 times more than Chungchung Do where mountain area ratio is 51.24%. Development activities in forestland in Korea showed unequal distributions and 26% of those developments were not subjected to the feasibility of forest land conversion regulation.
This study was carried out to develop Tablet PC based customizing system for fine mapping of forest cover type. The major contents and characteristics of FIS developed in this study were as follows. Field Investigation System (FIS) has a merit of accessibility to display exact location in various spatial data with position information received from the GPS. FIS can be used to record and manage many field information on which field investigation is done, with the help of the memo tool, field-sheet tool, calculating distance and area with measuring tool as well as editing forest type. It is possible to do field investigation effectively using FIS developed in this study. Accordingly, investigation and time costs can be reduced and field-work productivity will be improved.
