도시(都市)에 있어서의 외국인(外國人)을 상대로 한 위안부(慰安婦)에 대한 성병관리(性病管理) (A Study of Venereal Diseases Control for Prostitutes and Playmates of Foreign Soldier in a Urban Area)

  • This study was carried out to contribute to the control of Venereal diseases amnog prostitutes living aroung US army camps in Daegu area. The status of those who registrated in our Bongdeok Venereal Diseases Clinic was observed during a year from October 1, 1973 to September 31, 1974. Most of them were playmates of foreign soldiers. Forty eight percent of the total 241 were 20 to 24 years in age. About 70 percent were under elementary school level in educational background. The reason for prostitution was hard living and economic problems in about 94 percent of the cases studied. The cases studied within one year from the present time were 104, 43.3 percent. Although the full number of monthly vistits in eight or nine (Two times a week), the monthly mean was found to be 5.5. The result of cardiolipin test was 4.6 percent positive and 9.3 percent, false positive. Gram negative diplococci was found to be 4.3 percent, pus cell, 49 percent and staphylocci 18.1 percent. The patients were chiefly cured by ampicillin and kanamycin, although procain penicillin was also used. More control mathods must be introduced and promoted along with tracing methods and cultures for gonorrhea.

Prospect of new variety breeding of Italian ryegrass in South Korea

  • The objective of this study was to know prospect and present state of new variety breeding of Forage and Grassland in South Korea. The industry of forage in Korea is going up to expend through utilization of good quality forage, Italian ryegrass, forage corn and oat rather than rice straw. Especially, since 2007, Italian ryegrass(IRG) had been very important major winter forage crop in South Korea and developed 13 varieties including very early maturity variety (three varieties), early maturity variety (three varieties), medium maturity variety (one variety) and late maturity variety (six varieties). But the disadvantage of Italian ryegrass was weak winter hardness and drought but has good advantage of forage nutritive value, high-yielding and high sugar content, and like livestock as like hanwoo, dairy cattle, goat so on. The Ko-variety (Korea developed variety) of Italian ryegrass has high cold-tolerant and adaptability more than any other country developed variety, and expend to cultivation area from southern area (below Daejeon) to middle-northern area (upper Han river). Although the cultivation area of Italian ryegrass of South Korea was 21,700 ha in 2007, right now, that of Italian ryegrass is about 123,600ha due to expend cultivation area and know famer to good forage crop and have a various maturity varieties (very early, early, medium, late) according to local situation (before-crop harvesting stage or double cropping system). The seed market of Italian ryegrass in South Korea becoming extended to around 100 million Korean won and seed export get nearer to foreign country. We are going to develop of new variety for stress tolerant and high yield and quality forage variety, good adaptability to the Korean environmental conditions including reclaimed area, make self-sufficiency system for forage seed (Italian ryegrass), export our seed to foreign countries.

서울지역의 고해상도 WISE-WRF 모델의 지표면 거칠기 길이 개선에 따른 민감도 분석 (Sensitivity Analysis of the High-Resolution WISE-WRF Model with the Use of Surface Roughness Length in Seoul Metropolitan Areas)

  • In the numerical weather model, surface properties can be defined by various parameters such as terrain height, landuse, surface albedo, soil moisture, surface emissivity, roughness length and so on. And these parameters need to be improved in the Seoul metropolitan area that established high-rise and complex buildings by urbanization at a recent time. The surface roughness length map is developed from digital elevation model (DEM) and it is implemented to the high-resolution numerical weather (WISE-WRF) model. Simulated results from WISE-WRF model are analyzed the relationship between meteorological variables to changes in the surface roughness length. Friction speed and wind speed are improved with various surface roughness in urban, these variables affected to temperature and relative humidity and hence the surface roughness length will affect to the precipitation and Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL) height. When surface variables by the WISE-WRF model are validated with Automatic Weather System (AWS) observations, NEW experiment is able to simulate more accurate than ORG experiment in temperature and wind speed. Especially, wind speed is overestimated over $2.5m\;s^{-1}$ on some AWS stations in Seoul and surrounding area but it improved with positive correlation and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) below $2.5m\;s^{-1}$ in whole area. There are close relationship between surface roughness length and wind speed, and the change of surface variables lead to the change of location and duration of precipitation. As a result, the accuracy of WISE-WRF model is improved with the new surface roughness length retrieved from DEM, and its surface roughness length is important role in the high-resolution WISE-WRF model. By the way, the result in this study need various validation from retrieved the surface roughness length to numerical weather model simulations with observation data.

Digital Diplomacy via Social Networks: A Cross-National Analysis of Governmental Usage of Facebook and Twitter for Digital Engagement

  • Over the last couple of years, digital diplomacy has become a fascinating area of research among Mass Communication, Peace and Conflict Studies, and International Affairs scholars. Social media and new technology open up new avenues for governments, individuals, and organizations to engage with foreign audiences. However, developing countries' governments are still lacking in the realization of the potential of social media. This study aims to analyze the usage of social media (Facebook & Twitter) by the two biggest countries in South Asia (Pakistan and India). I selected 10 government officials' social media accounts including prime ministers', national press offices', military public relations offices', public diplomacy divisions', and ministries of foreign offices' profiles. The study relies on quantitative content analysis and a comparative research approach. The total number of analyzed Twitter tweets (n=1,015) and Facebook posts (n=1,005) include 10 accounts, five from each country. In light of Kent and Taylor's (1998) dialogic communication framework, the results indicate that no digital engagement and dialogue occurs between government departments and the public through social networking sites. Government departments do not engage with local or foreign audiences through digital media. When comparing both countries, results reveal that India has more institutionalized and organized digital diplomacy. In terms of departmental use of social media, the digital diplomacy division and foreign office of India is more active than other government departments in that nation. Meanwhile, Pakistan's military public relations office and press office is more active than its other government departments. In conclusion, both countries realize the potential of social media in digital diplomacy, but still lack engagement with foreign audiences.

애국심이 제품평가에 미치는 영향: 소비자 자민족중심주의의 매개효과를 중심으로 (Effects of Patriotism on Product Evaluation: Focused on the Mediating Effects of Consumer Ethnocentrism)

  • 본 연구에서는 애국심이 자국 및 외국 제품 평가에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석하였다. 또한 애국심과 제품평가 간의 관계에 있어 소비자 자민족중심주의의 매개변수적 영향력을 분석하였다. 실증분석을 위해 서울 소재 대학에 재학 중인 학부생과 대학원생을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 조사결과 애국심은 외국제품 평가에는 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났으나, 자국제품 평가에는 긍정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 소비자 자민족중심주의는 애국심과 자국제품 평가 간의 관계를 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 실증분석 결과를 토대로 연구의 의의를 논하였으며, 유통관리 측면에서의 시사점을 제시하였다. 끝으로 연구의 한계점과 향후 연구방향을 제안하였다.

습지(wetlands)에 대한 용어 이해 (The Conprehesion of the Terminology of Wetlands)

  • 습지는 물로 덮여 있는 지역에 대한 총칭이다. 습지 연구에 있어 필요한 요건은 수문, 토양, 식생이다. 람사(Ramsar)에서는 수문을 가장 중요한 요건으로 습지를 정의한다. 외국에서 학술적 용어로는 swamps, marshes, bogs, fens 등이 있다. 무엇보다 위치를 중심으로 분류한 용어이다. 수문, 수질, 식생이 기준이 된 경우도 있다. 우리나라에서는 못, 소택지, 늪, 습원, 습지 등으로 불리운다. 그러나, 외국 용어를 해석하기에 혹은 우리나라 안에서의 학술적 통일성이 미흡하여 앞으로의 용어 정의가 절실히 요구된다.

진품과 복제품 구매의도 - 패션 명품을 중심으로 - (Purchasing Intentions toward Originals and Counterfeits - Foreign Fashion Luxury Brands -)

  • The purpose of this study was to classify the clusters based on two behavioral intentions toward purchasing originals and counterfeits of foreign fashion luxury brands and to examine the differences in personality characteristics and demographics. This study included attitude toward counterfeit, consumer ethnocentrism, materialism, and need for uniqueness as personality characteristics and gender, monthly household income, and pocket money as demographics. Data were gathered by surveying university students living in Seoul metropolitan area using convenient sampling, and 320questionnaires were used in the statistical analysis. In analyzing data, cluster analysis, x-test, and One-way ANOVA were conducted. As a result of the cluster analysis based on two behavioral intentions toward purchasing originals and counterfeits, four groups were identified. There were significant differences in attitude toward counterfeit and materialism according to the purchasing intention clusters. x-tests also showed there were significant differences between the number of male and female subjects in each of the four clusters. Females are significantly more represented than females in all four clusters.

  • According to operating conditions of each engine, a PCV valve has various flow rates and pressure characteristic. In a developed country, it has been developing by a computational design simulation. But, Korean companies have no ability of technical design for a PCV valve. So, they depend on their experiments and copy the designs of foreign companies when they need to design new PCV valves. These problems cause increase of error rate and take much time. Hence, optimal design for a PCV valve is needed to secure for continuous competition against foreign automobile companies. In this study, we used 4th order Runge-Kutta method for the prediction of spool movements and applied Bernoulli's equation for the determination of flow area. A spool geometry and spool displacement were predicted to be satisfied in comparison with their experiment.

다국적기업 국내 자회사의 자율성과 경영성과에 관한 연구 (An Empirical Study on the Relationship Between Foreign Subsidiary's Autonomy and Performance)

  • 해외자회사의 자율성이 높아지면 경영성과가 좋아질 것이라는 것은 경영자들에게는 너무나도 당연한 논리로 받아들여 왔지만 실제로 학술적인 실증분석이 이루어지지 못하였다. 또한 글로벌경영으로 경영패러다임 전환 이후 본사의 글로벌조정의 틀 속에서도 자회사의 자율성 수준과 경영성과와의 정의 상관관계가 실제로 유의적인지 밝혀진 바가 없다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제를 확인하기 위하여 한국에 진출한 다국적기업을 연구대상으로 하여 다국적기업 해외자회사(본 연구에서는 한국 국내자회사)의 자율성이 경영성과에 미치는 영향관계를 연구하였다. 검증 결과 자율성은 재무적 성과와 전략적 성과 모두에 유의적인 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 해외자회사의 자율성을 제고시킬수록 자회사의 경영성과가 높아진다는 일반적인 생각을 확인해주는 결과이다. 또한 글로벌경영의 틀 안에서도, 즉 본사의 글로벌조정 속에서도 해외자회사의 자율성을 확보해주는 것이 경영성과 향상에 중요하다는 것을 시사하고 있다.

Quality evaluation of local brand rice in rice exporting countries

  • This study evaluated the grain quality of local brand rice from 6 major rice exporting countries which are anticipated to export their rice to Korea. Recently, with the end of the postponement of rice import tariffs in 2014, Korea is in a very easy environment to import foreign rice. Therefore, the quality evaluation of local brand rice in those countries is needed to secure the quality competitiveness of Korean rice, also to protect the rice industry in Korea. We provided total 38 local brand rice from USA(7), China(16), Australia(4), Thailand(3), Vietnam(5) and India(3), and 2 imported brand rice through MMA from USA and China to find out the status of the grain quality for each country. For the quality evaluation, we analyzed the physicochemical properties, milling and palatability-related characteristics. The amylose content on country average ranged from 24.4(India)~16.2%(Thailand). The protein content was 6.66% by overall average, and was higher in order of India(7.86), Australia(6.80), Vietnam(6.61), Thailand(6.59), China(6.28), USA(5.82). In Toyo glossiness value, it ranged from 75.7~45.2, and the figures in USA and China were the highest level. The head rice ratio ranged from 95.2~72.4%, and the figures in Thailand, USA and China were distinctly high. When we analyze the palatability of boiled brand rice with Chucheongbyeo as check variety by expert panelists, several rice brands from USA and China showed equal or better scores in shape, smell, taste, stickiness, texture and overall score, although most rice brands showed a tendency to decrease significantly in the taste characteristics compared with Chucheongbyeo. From the above results, it can be seen that the grain quality of USA and China rice is very competitive when imported into Korea. The results will provide basic information for the quality control of foreign rice which will be imported into Korea in the near future, also for the quality information which could be applied on the development of high-quality Korean rice varieties. Continuous monitoring about the foreign brand rice is advisable to improve the quality competitiveness of Korean rice.
