공과대학 신입생의 핵심역량 인식수준을 통한 공학교육방향 연구 (The Study on Proper Way for Engineering University Education: Based on the Perception of Current Competencies and Expected Competencies of Engineering Freshmen)

  • 본 연구는 대학교육을 통하여 획득해야 하는 핵심역량들을 추출하여 공과대학 신입생들이 인식하는 현재의 역량수준과 기대하는 역량수준을 조사하고 공과대학 교육의 방향성을 탐색해 보고자 하는데 목적이 있다. 핵심역량에 대한 문헌분석을 통해서, '전공능력', '교양능력', '외국어능력', '기초수학능력', '인간소통능력'의 5가지를 공학교육의 목표와 내용이 되어야 할 핵심 역량으로 추출하였다. 이를 연구도구화 한 뒤, C대학교 공과대학 신입생 584명을 대상으로 핵심역량에 대한 현재인식수준과 기대인식수준을 조사 연구하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 신입생들은 모든 역량에서 현재 역량수준이 낮다고 인식하고 있었으며, 특히 '외국어 역량'에 대한 인식수준이 가장 낮았다. 기대인식수준에 대한 교육요구도 '외국어능력'이 가장 높았고, '전공능력'은 두 번째로 높았다. 둘째, 신입생들의 하위특성을 성별, 고등학교 계열별, 출신고등학교의 지역별, 대학입학전형 유형별, 수능 수리유형별로 차이검증을 실시한 결과, 하위특성별로 현재인식수준과 기대인식수준간에 유의미한 차이가 있었다. 연구결과를 토대로, 본 연구는 공과대학 교육의 방향으로 외국어(영어)교육의 강화, 학습자의 하위 특성에 따른 개인차 해소를 위한 다양한 교육프로그램 설계 및 실행, 전공능력뿐 아니라 교양능력 및 인간소통능력의 중요성에 대한 인식 제고와 관련 프로그램의 강화, 교수-학습과정에 대한 피드백 자료 축적을 통한 공학 교육프로그램의 지속적인 수정 보완작업, 공학교육과정과 특별프로그램을 통한 진로교육의 활성화를 제언하였다.

북한 중등과정 지리 교과서 기상학분야 용어에 대한 전남지역 고등학생들의 이해 (Perception of High School Students in Chonnam Province on the Meteorology Terms in Geography Textbooks of North Korean Secondary School)

  • 북한에서는 중등과정 기상학 내용을 지리학 분야에서 배운다. 본 연구는 북한 지리교과서에 나오는 기상학분야 용어를 남한의 지구과학 교과서에서 사용하는 용어와 비교하여 같은 의미이면서 다른 용어 40개를 발췌하여 각 용어에 대해 전남지방 고등학생들이 이해하는 정도를 비교하였다. 용어의 이해도 조사는 전남지역 소재 2개 고등학교 89명을 대상으로 하였다. 고등학생들이 남한 용어에 대한 이해 수준은 북한용어의 이해 수준에 비해 평균적으로 30% 정도 높다. 더운전선, 합치기과정, 하루변화, 비탈면 등 9개의 북한 용어는 오히려 남한 용어보다 이해 수준이 높다. 이해 수준이 보다 낮은 3때 용어 가운데 2때 용어는 북한 고유어를 이용하여 최근 만들어진 것들이다. 남한의 용어 대부분은 한자어, 외래어 등에서 유래한 용어로 이루어져 있으며 대체로 북한 고유어로 새로 만들어진 용어보다 더 높게 이해되고 있다.

Designing an Integrated Online-guide for Overseas Applicants Seeking to Teach English in Korea: Focus on Job and Visa Application

  • This study suggests an effective online guide for foreign teachers who want to teach English in Korean schools. When designing this guide for overseas applicants, there should be a consistent analysis to reflect the process of the system. Thus, this paper provides an analysis and results for an integrated online guide to increase the efficiency based on the pedagogical framework for analysis of the 'ADDIE' model (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The number of job applicants who wish to teach English in Korea is growing rapidly because Korea is one of the fastest growing economies in the world and the 'Korean Wave' has especially been experiencing significant changes with the development of social network services and digital technologies. As a result, overseas applicants' expectations regarding Korea when they are seeking information and applying is very high, but the aspects of the procedure provided by the government are somewhat disappointing. The paper presents customer needs and specific recommendation for each step of the application process to improve the guide's effectiveness.

삼각형의 결정과 합동의 분석 (Analysis on Triangle Determination and Congruence)

  • 중학수학 7-나에서 삼각형의 결정조건은 '세 변이 주어질 때', '두 변과 끼인 각이 주어질 때', '한 변과 그 양끝 각이 주어질 때'로 기술하고 있다. 합동 닮음조건도 세 조건으로 기술하고 있다. 이 논문에서는 '두 선분과 긴 선분의 대각이 주어질 때'도 삼각형의 결정조건에, 대응하는 두 변과 긴 변의 대각이 같을 때'는 합동조건과 닮음조건에 포함될 수 있음을 밝히며, 최소필수성은 삼각형의 결정조건에 있다고 보기 어렵고 합동조건에만 존재한다는 것, 유클리드 기하를 통한 삼각형 결정 합동조건의 명제탐구 및 결정 합동조건을 동일시하는 개념 혼동에 의한 문제점, 삼각형 결정을 위한 작도학습에 있어서 각과 길이의 수치화로 인한 부정적 영향에 관하여 논의한다. 마지막으로 미국과 일본 등의 교과서에서는 다루지 않으며, 유클리드 기하에도 없는 결정조건의 학습 효과에 대한 논의와 중학 수학 7-나의 삼각형의 결정 합동부분에 있어 학생들의 탐구력과 창의성 향상을 위한 학습 방향을 제안하는 바이다.

How Derivational Prefix Instruction Impacts Incidental Vocabulary Acquisition and Reading Comprehension

  • The study examined the effects of explicit derivational morphology instruction (henceforth DMI) on the incidental vocabulary acquisition and reading comprehension of 132 Korean 1st-year high school students who responded to a battery of tests (two vocabulary tests and a reading comprehension test). Multiple statistical tools were used to analyze the data: Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA), Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Simple Regression Analysis, Tests of Simple Main Effects, and effect size computation using Cohen's d. The results indicated that (a) DMI enhanced students' ability to infer word meanings in context, (b) DMI promoted high proficiency students' reading comprehension, whereas it impeded intermediate proficiency students' reading comprehension, (c) vocabulary knowledge has a strong positive predictive value for reading comprehension, and (d) the gaps of vocabulary knowledge across proficiency levels were still substantial, despite the observation that DMI promoted students' vocabulary acquisition. These results have a bearing on English as Foreign Language (EFL) reading pedagogy.

향기요법이 고등학생의 스트레스와 스트레스 반응에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of Aromatherapy on Stress and Stress Responses in Adolescents)

  • Purpose: This study was done to examine the effects of aromatherapy on stress and stress responses in adolescents. Methods: A two-group cross-over design was used for this study. The experimental treatment was aroma essential oil inhalation and the placebo treatment was carrier oil inhalation using a necklace. The sample included 36 female high school students. Fisher's exact test, t-test, and paired t-test using SPSS/WIN program were used to analyze the data. Results: Stress levels were significantly lower when the students received the aroma treatment compared to when they received the placebo treatment. The stress responses except salivary IgA levels were significantly lower when the students received the aroma treatment. Conclusion: Aroma inhalation could be a very effective stress management method for high school students. Therefore, it is recommended that this program be used in clinical practice as an effective nursing intervention for high school students.

대학수학능력시험의 직업탐구영역에 대한 수산·해운계열 전문교과 문항 분석 (An Analysis on the Questions of the Fisheries and Shipping Subject of Vocational Search Field)

  • Recently, many more fisheries and shipping high school students have entered college than those of the past. But, this trend could be attributed to the easy and various forms of selection for college admission. Thus the examinations of the college scholastic ability 2005 have added to the vocational search ability including verbal ability, mathematic ability, foreign language ability and inquiry ability. The vocational search ability in fisheries and shipping field is concluded the general fisheries science, general maritime science, general marine science and fisheries and shipping information management. This study analyzed the questions of the fisheries and shipping subject of vocational search field with high school 2nd students on October 2003. In result, this study identified some needed basic scholastic ability for fisheries and shipping high school students.

Linguistic and Educational Factors Affecting TOEFL Scores: Focusing on Three OECD Countries in EFL contexts

  • This study aims at investigating the linguistic and educational factors affecting TOEFL scores, focusing on three OECD countries, Korea, Japan, and Finland. The data comprise document analysis on curriculums, websites, and literature. The findings reveal that the number of Korean test-takers and their TOEFL scores gradually increased year by year. Finnish test-takers consistently gained greatly high scores, and Japanese examinees showed the lowest scores. The languages Korean, Japanese, and Finnish are all far distant from English and receive little support on historical grounds from the Indo-European family tree. In Finland, however, Swedish which belongs to Indo-European languages is still used as an official language with Finnish. Korea and Finland adopt English education from Year 3 in primary school, whereas English is not an official subject in primary school at present in Japan. Finnish students are taught a foreign language in addition to English from primary school. These seem to support the result of the high TOEFL scores of Finnish test-takers. This study concludes that social context which includes linguistic and educational environments are the main factors which affect TOEFL scores.

Generation of Reactive Oxygen Species Contributes to the Development of Carbon Black Cytotoxicity to Vascular Cells

  • Carbon black, a particulate form of pure elemental carbon, is an industrial chemical with the high potential of occupational exposure. Although the relationship between exposure to particulate matters (PM) and cardiovascular diseases is well established, the cardiovascular risk of carbon black has not been characterized clearly. In this study, the cytotoxicity of carbon black to vascular smooth muscle and endothelial cells were examined to investigate the potential vascular toxicity of carbon black. Carbon black with distinct particle size, N330 (primary size, 28~36 nm) and N990 (250~350 nm) were treated to A-10, rat aortic smooth muscle cells and human umbilical vein endothelial cell line, ECV304, and cell viability was assessed by lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) leakage assay. Treatment of carbon black N990 resulted in the significant reduction of viability in A-10 cells at 100 ${\mu}g$/ml, the highest concentration tested, while N330 failed to cause cell death. Cytotoxicity to ECV304 cells was induced only by N330 at higher concentration, 200 ${\mu}g$/ml, suggesting that ECV304 cells were relatively resistant to carbon black. Treatment of 100 ${\mu}g$/ml N990 led to the elevation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) detected by dichlorodihydrofluorescein (DCF) in A-10 cells. Pretreatment of antioxidants, N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and sulforaphane restored decreased viability of N990-treated A-10 cells, and N-acetylcysteine, but not sulforaphane, attenuated N990-induced ROS generation in A-10 cells. Taken together, present study shows that carbon black is cytotoxic to vascular cells, and the generation of reactive oxygen contributes to the development of cytotoxicity. ROS scavenging antioxidant could be a potential strategy to attenuate the toxicity induced by carbon black exposure.

학교 용수 원단위 산정 및 용수 사용량 추정 방법에 관한 연구 (Estimation of water unit factor and water demand of educational institutions)

  • The objective of this research is to provide more reliable and accurate unit factor of water amount by investigating of informations related to various educational institutions such as elementary, middle, high schools and university. In order to estimate the water demand of educational institutions, first of all, the informations such as building area, site area, total school population, and water amount of various educational institutions are investigated to estimate the water unit factor. In this research, we used the total population of students and teachers to estimate the water demand of educational institutions. The results of unit factors of this research are as follows: 1) The elementary school is $0.027983m^3/person{\cdot}day$, 2) middle school: $0.024106m^3/person{\cdot}day$, 3) high school: $0.041415m^3/person{\cdot}day$, 4) specialized high school (science high school and foreign language high school): $0.156938m^3/person{\cdot}day$ and 5) university: $0.033766m^3/person{\cdot}day$. Finally, these water amounts calculated by unit factors were compared with real water amount of educational institutions.
