Structural Analysis of Floating Offshore Wind Turbine Tower Based on Flexible Multibody Dynamics (탄성 다물체계 동역학을 기반으로 한 부유식 해상 풍력 발전기 타워의 구조 해석)

  • In this study, we perform the structural analysis of a floating offshore wind turbine tower by considering the dynamic response of the floating platform. A multibody system consisting of three blades, a hub, a nacelle, the platform, and the tower is used to model the floating wind turbine. The blades and the tower are modeled as flexible bodies using three-dimensional beam elements. The aerodynamic force on the blades is calculated by the Blade Element Momentum (BEM) theory with hub rotation. The hydrostatic, hydrodynamic, and mooring forces are considered for the platform. The structural dynamic responses of the tower are simulated by numerically solving the equations of motion. From the simulation results, the time history of the internal forces at the nodes, such as the bending moment and stress, are obtained. In conclusion, the internal forces are compared with those obtained from static analysis to assess the effects of wave loads on the structural stability of the tower.

Damage Index Evaluation Based on Dissipated Energy of SCH 40 3-Inch Carbon Steel Pipe Elbows Under Cyclic Loading (주기적 하중을 받는 SCH 40 3-Inch 탄소강관엘보의 소산에너지 기반의 손상지수 평가)

  • The failure mode of piping systems due to seismic loads is the low-cycle fatigue failure with ratcheting, and it was found that the element in which nonlinear behavior is concentrated and damage occurs is the elbow. In this study, to quantitatively express the failure criteria for a pipe elbow of SCH40 3-inch carbon steel under low-cycle fatigue, the limit state was defined as leakage, and the in-plane cyclic loading test was conducted. For the carbon steel pipe elbow, which is the vulnerable part to seismic load of piping systems, the damage index was represented using the moment-deformation angle relationship, and it was compared and analyzed with the damage index calculated using the force-displacement relationship. An attempt was made to quantitatively express the limit state of the carbon steel pipe elbow involving leakage using the damage index, which was based on the dissipated energy caused by repeated external forces.

The Stochastic Finite Element Analysis and Reliability Analysis of the Cable Stayed Bridge Considered to Correlation of the Random Variable (확률변수의 상관성을 고려한 사장교의 확률유한요소해석 및 신뢰성해석)

  • The reliability analysis can be conducted more effectively by formulating the stochastic finite element method suitable for the reliability theory about the cable stayed bridge. After conducting the initial equilibrium analysis of the cable stayed bridge, the program which can conduct the linear and nonlinear stochastic finite element analysis using the perturbation method and the reliability analysis considered to the correlation of the random variable is developed. Using the results of this program about the cable stayed bridge, the characteristic of the node displacement, element force and cable tension according to the correlation of the random variable is investigated quantitatively. Also the reliability index and the failure probability are examined by the compounding the correlation of the random variable.

  • This study was carried out to the effect of wind load on the structural stability of an articulated type container crane according to the wind direction assuming that 75m/s wind velocity is applied on a container crane using FSI(fluid-structural interaction). To consider fluid phenomenon around the container crane, the wind load was derived by the computation fluid dynamic, and it applied to the FSI which can guarantee an accuracy and a reliability in the design stage for wind resistant structural stability to minimize the damage due to high wind load applied in a container crane with a 'ㄱ' type articulated boom which used in the total height restriction region. Following from this, the reaction force on the each support of a container crane was suggested. ANSYS ICEM CFD 10.0 and ANSYS CFX 10.0 used for computation fluid dynamic, and the ANSYS Workbench 11.0 was used for the fluid-structural interaction.

Interaction Analysis between Tapered Sectional Launching Nose and Superstructure Section of ILM Concrete Bridge (변단면 압출추진코와 ILM 교량 상부단면의 상호작용 해석)

  • ILM(incremental launching method) bridge is one of the prestressed concrete bridge construction methods widely adopted owing to its effectiveness for the quality control. The sections of the launched superstructure pass every position of the bridge spans. This launching process causes the bridge sections to be experienced in the quite different stress states with the stress state occurred after construction completely. Due to the self weight of sections, particularly, the superstructure sections(deck) experience maximum positive and negative moment as well as maximum shear force during launching process. To minimize the temporarily caused sectional forces, launching nose is generally used in the construction method. Therefore, the magnitude of this sectional forces should be checked for the safety of super structure in construction and it is dependent on the structural characteristics of launching nose. In this study, the simplified formulas to analyze the sectional force occurred by the nose-deck interaction in ILM construction are developed. The considering parameters are the span length ratio, stiffness ratio and weight ratio between the launching nose and the super structure. In particular, the developed formulas can consider the tapered sectional shape of launching nose and the diaphragm wall in the superstructure. Additionally, the sensitivity analysis is performed to analyze the effects of nose-deck interaction according to the design parameters.

Inelastic Buckling Behavior of Column and Beam-Column (기둥과 보-기둥 구조물의 비탄성 좌굴거동)

  • The inelastic lateral-torsional buckling behavior of the beam-columns and the columns was investigated in this paper. The energy method was deployed to study the inelastic buckling behavior of the beam-columns and columns. which requires the iterative solution of a fourth-order eigenproblem. Hitherto, the patterns of residual stress that satisfies the I-section manufacturing in Korea is not available, therefore the pattern of residual stress used in this study is a 'well-known' simplified pattern. The simplified pattern of the residual stresses is incorporated with the flow theory of plasticity to model the inelastic response. Firstly, this study investigates the inelastic lateral-torsional buckling behavior of the I-section beam-columns under a concentric axial compressive force and uniform bending, and the effect of residual stress on the inelastic buckling behavior of beam-columns is studied. The study is then extended to the inelastic buckling of the columns by eliminating a bending moment. These results are compared it with the design method in the Korean Steel Designers Manual (KSDM 1995). This study has found that design method in KSDM (1995) is excessively conservative.

  • The major design parameters of the anchored sheet-pile wall include the determination of required penetration depth, the force acting on the anchor, and the maximum bending moment in the piling. Blum solved the fixed earth supported wall using the equivalent beam method, assuming that the wall can be separated into upper and lower parts of the point of contraflexure. Design charts help designer by simplifying the design procedure. But they have some difficulties under some Geotechnical and geometrical conditions. For example, the conventional design charts can compute design parameters only when the ground water table exists above the dredge line. In this paper, the design charts which can be used for the ground water table existing under the dredge line are presented. And simplified formulae are developed by regression analysis. It is found that simplified formulae are not only very useful for the practice of design but also they can evaluate the result of numerical methods or design charts.

The Effect of Aspect Ratio on the Aerodynamic Characteristics of an Insect-based Flapping Wing (곤충 모방형 플래핑 날개의 공력특성에 관한 가로세로비 효과)

  • The effect of aspect ratio (AR) on the aerodynamic characteristics of a flapping wing was examined to analyze the design parameters of an insect-based MAV. The experimental model constructed with 4-bar linkages was operated in a water tank with the condition of a low Reynolds number. A water-proof micro-force load cell was fabricated and installed at the root of the wing which is made of a plexiglas. The wing shapes were based on the planform of a fruit fly wing. The ARs selected were 1.87, 3.74 and 7.48 and the Reynolds number was fixed at $10^4$. For AR=1.87 and 3.74, distinct lift peaks which indicate unsteady effects such as 'wake-capture' were observed at the moment of the start of the wing-stroke. However, for AR=7.48, no unsteady effects were observed. These phenomena were also observed in the delayed rotation case. The results indicate that a larger AR provides better aerodynamic performance for the insect-based flapping wing which can be applied in MAV designs.

Seismic Characteristics of Hollow Rectangular Sectional Piers with Reduced Lateral Reinforcements (횡방향철근이 감소된 중공사각단면 교각의 내진거동 특성)

  • The seismic design concept of RC bridges is to attain the proper ductility of piers, yielding a ductile failure mechanism. Therefore, seismic design force for moment is determined by introducing a response modification factor (R), and lateral reinforcements to confine core concrete are specified in the current design code. However, these design provisions have irrationality, which results in excessive amounts of lateral reinforcements for columns in Korea, which are generally designed with large sections. To improve on these provisions, a new design method based on seismic performance has been proposed. To apply this to hollow sectional columns, however, further investigations and improvements must be performed, due to the different seismic behaviors and confinement effects. In this study, hollow sectional columns with different lap-splice of longitudinal bars and lateral reinforcements have been tested. Seismic characteristics and performance were investigated quantitatively. These research results can be used to derive a performance-based design for hollow sectional columns.

  • The method using Rankine Soure distribution over the hull surface and undisturbed free surface was applied to calculate the free surface flow around a ship. The ship hull as well as a local portion of the undisturbed free surface arc geometrically represented by quadrilateral panels and the source density is determined so as to satisfy the linearized free surface condition based on the double model flow. The pressure distribution, wave resistance, wave profile and hydrodynamic sinkage force and trim moment for the Wigley hull and the Series 60 hull with $C_B=0.60$ were calculated in the fixed condition. The calculated results were compared with the measured values. The dependance of the solution on the panel arrangement, particularly on the free suraface, was also studied through 11 numerical test cases for the Wigley hull.
