간호보건계열과 비보건계열 대학생들의 의료용 방사선피폭과 방사선조사식품의 인식에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Perception of Medical Radiation Exposure and Irradiated Foods among College Students in Nursing and Health-related and Health-unrelated Majors)

  • 본 연구는 간호보건계열 대학생과 비보건계열 대학생들의 의료용 방사선과 방사선 조사식품에 대한 지식과 인식을 조사하여 방사선 이용에 대한 적절한 교육 프로그램을 개발하고 홍보하는데 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다. 의료용 방사선에 대한 지식도는 25세 이상이 3.00점으로 가장 높았고 임상병리학과가 3.0점으로 가장 높았다. 의료용 방사선의 위험성에 대한 인식도는 여자(3.34점)가 가장 높았고 간호보건계열 학과(3.40점)에서 가장 높았으며 3학년(3.41점)이 가장 높게 나타났다. 의료용 방사선의 편익에 대한 인식도는 남자(3.90점)가 가장 높았다. 방사선 조사식품에 관한 인식과 안전성에 관한 인식은 모든 학과에서 낮았다. 방사선조사식품에 관한 교육의 필요성과 방사선조사식품에 관한 정보제공 의사는 높았다. 결론적으로 대학생들에게 의료방사선에 대한 정확한 지식과 방사선조사식품의 안전에 대한 인식 개선을 위해 구체적인 홍보활동과 교육 프로그램 개발이 필요할 것으로 생각된다.

Population-Based Intervention for Liver Fluke Prevention and Control in Meuang Yang District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Thailand

  • Opisthorchiasis is still a major health problem in rural communities of Thailand. Infection is associated with cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), which is found frequently in Thailand, particularly in the northeastern. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of health intervention in the population at risk for opisthorchiasis and CCA. A quasi-experimental study was conducted in Meuang Yang district, Nakhon Ratchasima province, northeastern Thailand, between June and October 2015. Participants were completed health intervention comprising 4 stations; 1, VDO clip of moving adult worm of liver fluke; 2, poster of life cycle of liver fluke; 3, microscopy with adult and egg liver fluke; and 4, brochure with the knowledge of liver fluke containing infection, signs, symptoms, related disease, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and control. Pre-and-post-test questionnaires were utilized to collect data from all participants. Students paired t-tests were used to analyze differences between before and after participation in the health intervention. Knowledge (mean difference=-7.48, t=-51.241, 95% CI, -7.77, -7.19, p-value =0.001), attitude (mean difference=-9.07, t=-9.818, 95% CI=-10.9, -7.24, p-value=0.001), and practice (mean difference=-2.04, t=-2.688, 95% CI=-3.55, -0.53, p-value=0.008), changed between before and after time points with statistical significance. Community rules were concluded regarding: (1) cooked cyprinoid fish consumption; (2) stop under cooked cyprinoid fish by household cooker; (3) cooked food consumption; (4) hygienic defecation; (5) corrected knowledge campaign close to each household; (6) organizing a village food safety club; (7) and annual health check including stool examination featuring monitoring by village health volunteers and local public health officers. The results indicates that the present health intervention program was effective and easy to understand, with low cost and taking only a short time. Therefore, this program may useful for further work at community and provincial levels for liver fluke prevention and control.

후계농업인을 위한 인문교양 교육의 필요성과 강화방안 (A Study on the Necessity and Strengthening Programs of Liberal Arts Education for Second-Generation Farmers)

  • The decrease in the farming rates of agricultural produce importing countries has led to concerns over stable food supply and food safety and this situation demands a change in awareness on agricultural problems arising from the depletion of natural resources and environmental destruction. To preserve agriculture, importing countries are emphasizing the various roles of agriculture in order to revive its multi-functional aspects. It is obvious that differentiated strategies are needed to create values from agricultural production, and a liberal arts education can play an important role in making these strategies. However, training programs for future agricultural CEOs of the Korea National Agricultural College(KNAC) attaches too much importance on production skill and management rather than focusing on a liberal arts education. On the other hand, Poolmoo Ecological Agriculture Course carried out by Poolmoo Agriculture Technical High School located in Hongseong-Gun, Chungnam Province (which puts a high value on ecological fanning) gives more weight on a liberal arts education, taking up more than 50% of the curriculum. Also, the National Farmers Academy in Japan which reformed its whole system in 2008, has started various liberal arts educational programs. The Academy fosters creative agricultural management, attractive rural development enhancing a comfortable rural life and educates on the future of Japanese food and international environment. It is expected that the ecological and cultural roles of farming will grow in the future. So, what the KNAC needs is to increase its liberal arts educational programs and various cultural experiences in its educational curriculum to promote agricultural marketing with cultural knowledge and sensitivity.

국내 나노제품에 대한 시민 모니터링 결과 고찰 (An Experience of Korean Consumer's Monitoring on Nanoproducts)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 나노기술에 대한 일반인의 인식과 참여를 제고하기 위해 '소비자 모니터링'이라는 대중참여모델을 고안하고 그 실행결과를 검토하는데 있다. 모니터 요원은 서울과 부산 지역에 거주하는 30~40대 여성 22명이었다. 이들은 모두 대학 시절 이공계를 전공했기 때문에 과학기술에 대한 일반 지식을 갖추고 있었다. 모니터 대상은 일상생활에 사용되는 나노제품 167개였고, 모니터 기간은 약 1개월이었다. 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 제품에 '나노'라는 용어의 정의와 나노물질의 크기를 적시한 수는 2개(1.2%)였다. 제품에 적용된 나노기술의 내용을 충분히 설명한 수는 15개(9/0%)였다. 제품의 기능이 향상된 이유를 충분히 설명한 수는 14개(8.4%)였으며, 과장이나 잘못된 지식이 표현됐다고 의심되는 수는 27개(16.2%)였다. 또한 인체와 환경에 대한 위해 가능성이 의심되는 수가 88개(52.7%)였으며, 안전성과 관련한 설명을 명시해야 한다고 지적된 수는 84개(50.3%)였다. 모니터 요원들은 이번 경험을 토대로, 정부가 나노제품의 안전성을 입증해주는 인증제도를 조속히 도입할 것을 촉구했으며, 기업이 나노제품의 설명서에 상세하고 신뢰감 있는 내용을 담을 것을 요구했다.

서울시 축산물(식육)판매업소의 원산지 표시실태 및 위생상태 모니터링 (Monitoring Country-of-origin Labels and Sanitation on the Meat Markets in Seoul, Korea)

  • 본 연구는 서울시 전제 25개 구를 대상으로 축산물(식육)을 판매하는 영업소를 대형 중형 소형영업소로 구분하여 축산물의 항목 표시 실태 및 위생상태를 점검 파악하기 위하여, 축산물(식육) 판매업소의 위생적 관리와 표시규정의 준수 여부를 중심으로 분석하였다. 서울시 25개 구를 각 구별로 비교 분석하기 위해, 1개 구마다 12개의 영업장을 조사대상으로 선정하여, 총 300개의 영업장을 조사하였고, 또한 이들 25개 구를 서울시 강남지역과 강북지역으로 구분하여 비교 분석하였다. 본 연구에서 영업소의 규모는 대규모의 할인점이나 백화점, 대형 도매점 등의 300평 이상의 대규모 영업소가 16%였고, 중간 규모의 100-300평 사이의 중형영업소가 18%로 나타났다. 100평 이하의 소형 영업소는 66%로 가장 많은 부분을 차지하고 있는 것으로 조사되었다. 표시여부에 관한 규정의 준수는 비포장육과 포장육 모두 대체적으로. 잘 이루어지고 있었으나, 비포장육의 등급별 용도표시 항목과 포장육의 조리방법 표시, 보관방법의 표시 항목은 아직 일부 영업자에게 그 필요성이 인식되지 않고 있는 것을 알 수 있었다. 표시여부에 관한 규정의 준수와는 달리 위생과 관련한 항목에서는 저조한 적합률을 나타내었다. 특히 작업 중과 작업 완료 후의 위생적 조치는 여러 지역에서 잘 이루어지지 않고 있었다. 칼, 칼갈이, 도마 등의 기구류나 기계류가 상온에 그대로 방치되는 경우가 많았으며 위생에 관련한 복장 상태 역시 대부분의 구에서 잘 지켜지지 않고 있었다. 관련 항목의 전반적인 적합률이 매우 낮은 것을 보았을 때 복장에서 유발될 수 있는 식육의 오염에 대한 개념이 많이 부족한 것을 알 수 있었다. 식육의 보관 온도에 관한 규정 준수 또한 문제점이 있는 것으로 조사되었으며 냉장육과 냉동육의 정확한 보관온도를 대부분의 영업자나 종업원들은 알지 못하는 경우가 많았다. 또한, 냉장육의 냉장보관의 경우에는 대체로 잘 지켜지고 있지만, 냉동육의 경우 냉동보관은 잘 지켜지고 있지 않는 사례가 많아 영업자에게 식육의 보관에 대한 적절한 교육과 홍보가 절실히 필요하다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 서울시의 각 구별 축산물(식육)판매업소의 실태를 조사하는 과정에서 중 소형 영업소의 영업자나 종업인은 축산물 판매에 필요한 정보를 표지판에 기재하여 소비자에게 알리기 보다는 구두로 설명하는 경우가 많았다. 농림부 등 관계 당국에서는 식육에 대한 지식이 부족한 소비자에게 그 정보를 정확히 전달하지 않는 축산물 판매업소의 영업자나 종업원은 법을 위반하고 있는 것이라는 교육 및 홍보가 절실히 필요하다고 사료된다. 위의 결과로 볼 때 식품안전성을 확보하기 위해서는 식품위생과 안전성, 식품표시에 대한 홍보와 교육이 지속적으로 이루어져 소비자들의 식품안전에 대한 인식과 신뢰도를 높여야 하며 또한, 축산물(식육) 판매업소의 위생상태에 관련하여 부적합한 대부분의 영업소의 영업자나 종업인의 식육에 대한 위생교육 또한 시급한 문제임을 본 연구를 통해 알 수 있었다.

Individual and collective responsibility to enhance regulatory compliance of the Three Rs

  • Investigators planning to use animals in their research and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) members who review the research protocols must take personal responsibility for ensuring that they have the skills and knowledge to perform their duties, applying the Three Rs principles of Russell and Burch. The two Korean laws introduced in 2008 and 2009 regulating animal use for scientific purposes in line with the Three Rs principles have been revised a total of 11 times over the last 6 years. Both regulatory agencies, e.g., the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, provide regular training based on the legal requirements. Based on the amended Animal Welfare Act, the IACUC appointment framework has been upgraded: appointments are now for two-year terms and require a qualified training certificate issued by the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency since 2012. The authors reviewed the current curricular programs and types of training conducted by the two governing agencies through Internet searches. Our Internet survey results suggest that: a) diversity should be provided in training curricula, based on the roles, backgrounds and needs of the individual trainees; b) proper and continued educational programs should be provided, based on trainees' experiences; and c) active encouragement by government authorities can improve the quality of training curricula.

Physiological understanding of host-microbial pathogen interactions in the gut

  • The gut epithelial barrier, which is composed of the mucosal layer and the intestinal epithelium, has multiple defense mechanisms and interconnected regulatory mechanisms against enteric microbial pathogens. However, many bacterial pathogens have highly evolved infectious stratagems that manipulate mucin production, epithelial cell-cell junctions, cell death, and cell turnover to promote their replication and pathogenicity in the gut epithelial barrier. In this review, we focus on current knowledge about how bacterial pathogens regulate mucin levels to circumvent the epithelial mucus barrier and target cell-cell junctions to invade deeper tissues and increase their colonization. We also describe how bacterial pathogens manipulate various modes of epithelial cell death to facilitate bacterial dissemination and virulence effects. Finally, we discuss recent investigating how bacterial pathogens regulate epithelial cell turnover and intestinal stem cell populations to modulate intestinal epithelium homeostasis.

Dental alloplastic bone substitutes currently available in Korea

  • As dental implant surgery and bone grafts were widely operated in Korean dentist, many bone substitutes are commercially available, currently. For commercially used in Korea, all bone substitutes are firstly evaluated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) for safety and efficacy of the product. After being priced, classified, and registration by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA), the post-application management is obligatory for the manufacturer (or representative importer) to receive a certificate of Good Manufacturing Practice by Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Currently, bone substitutes are broadly classified into C group (bone union and fracture fixation), T group (human tissue), L group (general and dental material) and non-insurance material group in MOHW notification No. 2018-248. Among them, bone substitutes classified as dental materials (L7) are divided as xenograft and alloplastic bone graft. The purpose of this paper is to analyze alloplastic bone substitutes of 37 products in MOHW notification No. 2018-248 and to evaluate the reference level based on the ISI Web of Knowledge, PubMed, EMBASE (1980-2019), Cochrane Database, and Google Scholar using the criteria of registered or trademarked product name.

나노기술 응용식품에 대한 리스크 커뮤니케이션 전략 및 사회적 수용 방안 모색을 위한 대학생의 인식도 및 구매의도 분석 (Analysis on the Perception and Willingness to Purchase of College Students for Strategy for Risk Communication and Social Acceptance of Nanotechnology-Based Foods)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception and willingness to purchase of nanotechnology-based foods to find out the strategy for risk communication and social acceptance. The data were collected from 253 college students in Yeungnam region through a self-administered questionnaire. Frequency, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, t test, one-way ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis, and multiple regression analysis were conducted by SPSS Windows V.20.0. The level of concern about nanotechnology was relatively low, and the level of the perception about necessity for the development of nanotechnology-based foods was average. In addition, the respondents showed somewhat positive thoughts for the development of nanotechnology-based foods with beneficial effect, but they were worried about the risk for it. Percentage of correct answers on knowledge of nanotechnology and nanotechnology-based foods was not high, and the level of willingness to purchase them was average. According to the result of multiple regression analysis, factors affecting the willingness to purchase of nanotechnology-based foods were concern about health, perception about importance of food safety, perception about necessity for the development of nanotechnology-based foods, and perception about the development of nanotechnology-based foods with beneficial effect. On the basis of these results, it is necessary for consumers to offer the exact and reliable information on nanotechnology-based foods.

효과적인 팀워크를 위한 프랜차이즈 호텔 조리장의 피그말리온 리더십 (The Chain Hotel Chef's Pygmalion Leadership for Effective Teamwork of Cooks)

  • Purpose - In the past, the chain hotel chefs only serve food to their customers. However recently, the hotel chefs play a pivotal role in hotel including considering various customer preferences, safety and nutrition of food, and increasing profits through effective human resource management and inventory control. With the change of the chain hotel chef's' roles, pygmalion leadership, one of new leadership styles, focuses on the effect that leader's positive expectation let subordinates have motivation and more engage in work. This study investigates the effect of chain hotel chef's pygmalion leadership on leader trust and organizational trust. Research design, data, and methodology - This study was to investigate the structural relationships among chain hotel restaurant chefs' pygmalion leadership, hotel restaurant cooks' leader trust, organizational trust, and teamwork, and how leader trust and organizational trust play mediating roles in the relationship between pygmalion leadership and teamwork. In this model, pygmalion leadership includes 4 dimensions: Climate, Feedback, Input, and Output. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaire survey on cooks of Deluxe hotel restaurants located in Seoul and Gyonggi-Do. The samples for data analyses were 243 excepting unusable responses. Result - The findings can be summarized as follows: First, climate and feedback had a positive effect on leader trust, respectively. Second, feedback and output had a statistically positive effect on organizational trust, respectively. Third, leader trust had positive effects on organizational trust and teamwork. Fourth, organizational trust had a significant effect on teamwork. Conclusions - As a chain hotel chef treats his/her staffs sincerely, they will be more engaged in work by establishing trust in their leader. Ultimately, it leads to higher sales profit and customer satisfaction. In addition, a hotel can encourage chefs and other staffs to treat each other as if the student-instructor relations, not just commanding staffs. Then, cooks build up their trust to their leader and organization for its sustained growth and development, and the internal bond in organization including teamwork is strengthened. Therefore, to strengthen teamwork and organizational trust, there should be active communication, knowledge sharing, goal sharing, and cooperation between chefs and cooks.
