  • In the present investigation, we define two new subclasses of analytic and m-fold symmetric bi-univalent functions defined by a linear combination in the open unit disk U. Furthermore, for functions in each of the subclasses introduced here, we establish upper bounds for the initial coefficients ${\mid}a_{m+1}{\mid}$ and ${\mid}a_{2m+1}{\mid}$. Also, we indicate certain special cases for our results.

  • In this paper, we investigate a new subclass $S^{{\varphi},{\lambda}}_{{\Sigma}_m}$ of ${\Sigma}_m$ consisting of analytic and m-fold symmetric bi-univalent functions satisfying subordination in the open unit disk U. We consider the Fekete-$Szeg{\ddot{o}}$ inequalities for this class. Also, we establish estimates for the coefficients for this subclass and several related classes are also considered and connections to earlier known results are made.

  • We study on the video-capillaroscopy system for look a.t the nail fold capillary by the computer. This system is composed of the luminous source-producer, image-input, phase microscope. The method and contents of observation on this system are seperated from the image-analysis of nail fold capillary form-patterns and the currents of hematocytes. Therefore we think this system is possible to the practical clinic use for the basic model on the cardiac failure and the deficiency(血虛), stagnant(血瘀) of blood in human.

Effect of Iron Intakes on Macromineral Utilization in Rats (철분 공급수준이 흰쥐의 다량무기질 이용에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate effect of iron intakes on utilization of macrominerals (Ca, Mg, Na, K) in rats fed adequate, 2 fold, 4 fold iron for 12 weeks. There were no differences in feed intake, body weight gain, serum and liver levels of macrominerals across iron groups. Ca level in kidney of 4 fold iron group was significantly higher than those in other groups. Excretions of Mg through feces and Ca, Mg, Na, and K through urine were significantly increased with increment of iron intake. In the case of macromineral balances, daily retentions of Mg, Na, and K in adequate iron group were higher than those in 2 /4 fold iron groups. However there was no difference in Ca retention across iron groups. Therefore, it should be considered interaction with macromineral in iron supplementation.

Three-fold Symmetry Effect on Mn2+ Centers in a LiNbO3 Crystal

  • Spin Hamiltonian for the paramagnetic center with a three-fold symmetry and high spin ($S{\geq}2$) multiplicity should contain the fourth order zero-field splitting (ZFS) terms. Electron magnetic resonance transition lines of the center with S = 5/2 are expected to split in a pair when the magnetic field is applied off the principal axes of ZFS, while they are superimposed when the magnetic field is applied parallel to the principal axes of ZFS. In this study we report that the transition lines of $Mn^{2+}$ centers at the three-fold symmetric sites in $LiNbO_3$, chemically equivalent but physically different, split in two due to the nonzero fourth order ZFS term.

Cytotoxic and Cytotoxicity-Potentiating Effects of the Curcuma Root on L1210 Cell

  • A cytotoxic sesquiterpene against L1210 cell has been isolated from the root of Curcuma domestica. Its structure was identified as ${\beta}-sesquiphellandrene$. The cytotoxicity-potentiating substance was (+)-ar-turmerone. (+)-ar-Turmerone potentiated the cytotoxicity of ${\beta}-sesquiphellandrene$(5 fold in $ED_{50}$ value) and an unknown sesquiterpene which was isolated from the root as well, and that of aurapten(6.3 fold) isolated from the unripe fruit of Poncirus trifoliata. Moreover, it potentiated the cytotoxic activities of MeCCNU 10 fold and cyclophosphamide 10 fold. Except the fact that all the effective cytotoxic substances possess relatively good lipophilicity, no relationship between structures of the cytotoxic substances and the cytotoxicity-enhancing effect of (+)-ar-turmerone could be observed.

Preventive Effect of Selenium Supplementation on Iron Accumulation of Rats Fed Diets Containing High Levels of iron (철분의 과잉섭취시 셀레늄 섭취수준이 철분과잉 축적에 대한 예방효과에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of selenium supplementation of iron accumulation of rats fed diets containing high levels or iron. Sixty male Sprague-Dawley weaning rats were fed with diets containing various levels of iron(adequate : 35ppm, 2-fold : 70ppm, 4-fold : 140ppm) and selenium(adequat : 0.05ppm and high : 0.05ppm) for 12 weeks. Feed intakes of 2-fold and 4-fold iron groups were higher than that of adequate iron group. There was no difference body weight gain across iron and selenium containing diet groups. Hemoglobin level was increasd with iron increment and decreased with selenium supplementation. Iron contents in serum and tissues were increased as iron intake was increased. Liver iron content was decreased with selenium supplementation. Selenium content in liver was decreased with iron increment and increased with selenium supplementation. In the case of iron balance, iron excretion through urine and feces was significantly increased as iron intake was increased. However, apparent absorbability and retention rate of iron were not significantly affected by dietary iron or selenium.

ON THE HIGH-ORDER CONVERGENCE OF THE k-FOLD PSEUDO-CAUCHY'S METHOD FOR A SIMPLE ROOT

  • In this study the k-fold pseudo-Cauchy's method of order k+3 is proposed from the classical Cauchy's method defined by an iteration $x_{n+1}=x_n-{\frac{f^{\prime}(x_n)}{f^{{\prime}{\prime}}(x_n)}}{\cdot}(1-{\sqrt{1-2f(x_n)f^{{\prime}{\prime}}(x_n)/f^{\prime}(x_n)^2}})$. The convergence behavior of the asymptotic error constant is investigated near the corresponding simple zero. A root-finding algorithm with the k-fold pseudo-Cauchy's method is described and computational examples have successfully confirmed the current analysis.
