We have successfully termed brown colored patterns inside of a transparent borosilicate glass generally known as BK7, laying the focus of near infrared Ti: sapphire femtosecond laser beam in the bulk BK7 glass. It is important to keep the laser power well below the damage threshold of BK7 in forming the color center. Thanks to the low laser power, there was no laser induced mechanical damage such as cracks or threads in the color formed area. From the absorbance spectrum and its gaussian fitting, we found the band gap of BK7, 4.21eV, and three absorption edges.

An off-axis zone plate is able to focus on a single order while neglecting the zeroth order in a visible imaging system. This allows one to enhance the contrast quality in diffractive images, which is the major advantage of this type of zone plate. However, most previous reflection zone plates are used in focusing X-rays with a small grazing incident angle and are intricately designed with the use of a local grating period. In this study, we suggest the design of an off-axis elliptical zone plate (EZP) that is used to focus a monochromatic light beam with separation between the first and unfocused orders under a large grazing incident angle of 45°. An assumption using the total grating period, which depends on the average and constant grating period, is proposed to calculate the desired distance between the first and zeroth order and to simplify the construction of a novel model off-center EZP. Four diffractive optical elements (DOEs) with different parameters were subsequently fabricated by direct laser lithography and then verified using a performance evaluation system to compare the results from the assumption with the experimental results.

In this paper, the key parameters of $CO_2$ laser(focus depth, air blow rate, total laser beam time, number of pulse) are experimented for thru-hole and scribing line on AIN(aluminum nitride) substrate with high thermal conductivity. And, microstrip line & spiral planar inductor are fabricated on AIN substrate using 5 um Cu-plating with self-masking technique. The microstrip line of AIN has 0.1 dB/mm attenuation at 10 GHz and 6 nH spiral planar inductor has 56 maximum quality factor at 1 GHz. Thus, the AIN substrate is promising for GHz applications of high power area.
Optical microscopes integrated with CCD cameras are widely used for automatic inspection of precision circuit patterns fabricated on glass masks and silicon wafers. For this application it is important to position the object always is focus so that the image appears in good quality while the microscope scans the object. However, as the magnification of the microscope is taken large for fine resolution the depth of focus becomes small, often in submicron ranges, requiring special care in focusing. This study proposes a new auto-focusing method, which can be readily incorporated in existing optical configuration of microscope. This method is based on optical triangulation using a separate beam of laser and two photodiodes, eliminating focus errors caused by surface roughness and waviness. Experimental results prove that the method can produce focus error signals which are very sensitive with a resolution of 5 nm within 0.5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ accuracy.

We measure a beam diameter of scan and sub-scan direction of LSD (Laser Scanning Urnt) which uses $fheta$ lens produced by injecLion molding method as a scanning lens. While the measured beam diameter in scan direction, which is $62muextrm{m}$ to $68\mu\textrm{m}$, shows similar size comparing to the design beam diameter, the sub-scan beam diameter shows sIzable beam diameter deviation as much as 37 11m ranging from $78\mu\textrm{m}$ to $115\mu\textrm{m}$. Injection molding lens has the surface figure error due to the shrinkage III the cooling time and the internal distortion (birefringence) due to the uneven cooling conditIOn so that these bring about wavefront aberration (i.e., the enlargement of beam size), and are eventually expre~sed as the deterioration of the pdnting image. In this paper. we first measure and analyze beam diameter, birefringence (polanzation ratio), and asphedcal figure error of mIens in order to know the principle cause of the beam diameter deviation in sub-scan directIOn. And Lhen. through the analysis of a designed depth of focus and a calculated field curvature (imaging position of the optical axis directIon) using the above figure elTor data, we know Lhat the birefringence IS the main factor of sizable beam diameter deVIation in sub-scan direction. ction.

Fresnel zone plates have been widely used in many applications, such as x-ray telescopes, microfluorescence, and microimaging. To obtain an x-ray Fresnel zone plate, many fabrication methods, such as electron-beam etching, ion-beam etching and chemical etching, have been developed. Fresnel zone plates fabricated by these methods will inevitably lead to some nonideal factors, which have an impact on the focusing characteristics of the zone plate. In this paper, the influences of these nonideal factors on the focusing characteristics of the zone plate are studied systematically, by numerical simulations based on scalar diffraction theory. The influence of the thickness of a Fresnel zone plate on the absolute focusing efficiency is calculated for a given incident x-ray's wavelength. The diffraction efficiency and size of the focal spot are calculated for different incline angles of the groove. The simulations of zone plates without struts, with regular struts, and with random struts are carried out, to study the effects of struts on the focusing characteristics of a zone plate. When a Fresnel zone plate is used to focus an ultrashort x-ray pulse, the effect of zone-plate structure on the final pulse duration is also discussed.
A stack of gradient-index (GRIN) rod lenses cannot be used for coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) microendoscopy for insertion to internal organs through a surgical keyhole with minimal invasiveness. That's because GRIN lens has large amount of inherent chromatic aberrations in spite of absolutely requiring a common focus for pump and Stokes beam with each frequency of ${\omega}_p$ and ${\omega}_S$. For this endoscopic purpose, we need to develop a long slender probe-type objective, namely probe-type microscope objective (PMO). In this paper, we introduce the structure, the working principle, and the design techniques of PMO which is composed of a probe-type lens module (PLM) and an adaptor lens module (ALM). PLM is first designed for a long slender type and ALM is successively designed by using several design parameters from PLM for eliminating optical discords between scanning unit and PLM. A combined module is optimized again to eliminate some coupling disparities between PLM and ALM for the best PMO. As a result, we can obtain a long slender PMO with perfectly diffraction-limited performance for pump beam of 817 nm and Stokes beam of 1064 nm.

In recent, Lamb wave has been actively studied for non-destructive testing of plate. Among those studios, laser generation method of focused Lamb wave is expected to have high spatial resolution with advantages of non-contact testing. In this method, the laser beam is illuminated on the surface of object by through an arrayed-arc slit, and then the energy of the generated Lamb wave is concentrated at a focus of arc. This focusing effect improves the spatial resolution, which is dependant on the geometries of arrayed-arc slit. In this paper, the relationships between the parameters of arc-shaped slit and the focusing ability of the generated Lamb wave was investigated by the simulation based parametric study The results show that to improve the focusing effect, radius of illuminated laser, angle of arc and number of arcs must be increased, which minimum radius of arc and distance between arcs(=wavelength) must be decreased. These results are expected to be used as a guide to design the proper shape of slit.

A focal length-correcting lens called the F-theta lens is required to compensate for the different focus on spot size due to the deflected incident laser beam. The F-theta lens was designed by the ray tracing method and fabricated by a 3D printer with polymer-based material. The designed F-theta lens is able to compensate for the focus on spot size by an incidence angle of 0 to 2 degrees. Based on the analysis of the simulation, there was almost no aberration in the $0^{\circ}C$ incidence angle, and the maximum of $50{\mu}m$ of aberration was observed at the incidence angle of $2^{\circ}$. Diffraction-encircled energy was analyzed to characterize the designed optics, and an image simulation was performed to confirm the actual image resolution.
