A Study on the Effects of Handset Bundling on Competition and Consumer Welfare (단말기 번들링이 경쟁과 소비자후생에 미치는 효과 연구)

  • This paper finds that the ultimate source of problems facing Korean mobile telecommunications such as excessive subsidies of handsets, waste of resources, and a vicious circle of expensive handsets and high prices for services, is bundling of handset and subscription. The analysis suggests that bundling causes consumers to confuse about prices of handsets and services, and firms focus on handset subsidy competition rather than on upgrading service qualities and lowering prices due to anti-competitive effects of bundling. Because most of the cost of bundling is passed on to consumers, the welfare of consumers decline. In particular, equality among consumers worsens due to price discriminations. To resolve these problems, unbundling of handset and subscription is a necessity. Mixed bundling allowing separate selling of handsets under bundling does not seem to work as a cure because bundling tends to be a dominant strategy. The best regulatory policy is a complete separation of handset and subscription.

Study on Spatial Morphology Change and Protection Strategy Construction Considering Environmental Problems of Busan Coastliney (부산 해안선 환경문제에 대한 공간형태 변화 및 보호대책 구축에 관한 연구)

  • This paper puts forward protection strategies for the environmental problems of Busan coastline, providing theoretical basis and guiding standards for the tourism development and environmental transformation of the coastline. The order of research is to deduce the factors that affect environmental problems from the theoretical coastline development characteristics. The investigation method of spatial structure combined with time axis is adopted, and historical images and image processing techniques are used to find the characteristics of morphological changes of Busan coastline. The three types of natural coastline, artificial coastline and ecological restoration coastline are analyzed through the five factors that affect the fluctuation, extensibility, greening rate, concealment and vision of space. According to the above discussion, international competition examples are introduced to find solutions. Finally, environmental protection schemes are put forward from five aspects of tourism, accidents, development, culture and transformation. In the future research, it will focus on the transformation of coastline space to provide a more humanized activity space for coastline residents.

A Case Study of Broadcasting Contents Using One Source Multi Use Strategy (사례 분석을 통한 방송콘텐츠 OSMU의 고찰 - OSMU 이론적 정립 및 비즈니스분류를 중심으로 -)

  • In this study, we investigated broadcasting industry in Korea and in U.S. to find out what mostly makes the broadcasting industry competitive for the near future. One source multi use(from now on OSMU) marketing strategy is important when discussing profits of broadcasting contents. To develop a theoretical and academic framework of OSMU, 14 experts participated in focus group interview. A new meaning of OSMU is defined and 4 types of OSMU business models are developed in the study. Also, two successful examples of broadcasting contents, each from Korea and U.S., were analyzed with the models that we have developed. Lastly, we discussed how to enhance the competitiveness of broadcasting contents and industry by using the benefit-maximizing-strategies of OSMU.

  • This study focuses on regathering the regional festival tourists through the reuse of Pyeongchang Winter Olympics facilities. It has a purpose of proposing directions to develop regional festival through the case analysis of successful domestic and international festivals. As a method of primary study, case analysis of domestic and international festivals and literature study were done. It was developed by data from the Statistics Office and Culture Tourism. This study suggests the Trout Festival and Snow Festival, to develop the following strategy using the facilities and make new, fused contents for the festivals. It expects the increase in facilities utilization and boom in regional economy to appear with the initiation of the unique strategy. This study to be used as a reference in the future for regathering the tourists and future studies on this specific topic.

High School of Arts students' Understanding of the Nature of Science and Nature of Art (과학과 예술의 본성에 대한 예술고 학생들의 인식)

  • This study is a survey conducted to explore what art high school students specifically see as nature of science. Third-year students of a high school of arts in Gyeonggi-do participated in the survey. The questionnaire was classified into three categories - the formative arts in the fine arts, the sound arts in music, the performing arts in dance, and drama and play. The study analyzed what they think of as similar aspects of science and art respectively according to their majors, with focus on the extracts. As a result, they mentioned 'creative imagination', 'correlation with technology', 'social and cultural relation', 'subjectivity', 'variability', and 'inquiring attitude' as similarities between science and art. The results are almost the same as the elements of the nature of science as agreed on by scientists. From the result, we can assume that students majoring in art, indeed, need an education on the nature of science. Also, while the fine arts students have more tendency to perceive inquiring attitude than others, music students are more likely to perceive variability than others. Therefore, teaching strategy in experimental inquiring context for the former is more helpful in understanding the nature of science, and teaching strategy in the context of scientific history for the latter.

A Grounded Approach to Dietary Experiences in College Women (여대생의 다이어트 경험에 관한 근거이론적 접근)

  • This research is intended to study the dietary experiences by college women to promote women's health through the proper diet. The approach method was used grounded theory. The participants were selected 3 colleges in Seoul, Inchon, and Cheongju. The selected 15 women were college students who had a history of dietary experiences or who were on the way of diet at the time of the start of this research. The data were collected from August 2001 to October 2001. Data collecting method was a Focus Group Interview. The data were analysed by the Strauss and Corbin's method(1966). The results were showed that the 236 concepts in the dietary experiences were gathered into 48 sub-categories, eventually being integrated into 17 higher categories. 'Esthetic self-pursuit' is the core phenomenon of the dietary experiences. Such phenomenon is due to subjects physical problems, sense of comparison and desire of weight-loss. In the circumstantial context, the esthetic self-pursuit phenomenon is enhanced by social opinions, aesthetic senses, and the recognition of self-control. The interaction strategy of the esthetic self-pursuit can be intensified and sustained by will power, supporting systems, and accessibility. Through the dietary experiences, the body changes positive or negative figures. Following the sense of success or failure, the diet are sustained or abandoned accordingly. Therefore for the application of promoting health, an intervention strategy should be created a collect organized diet program in a social level not a private level.

Brand Development for Rural Specialty Products - A Case Study of Bokbunja Drink in MuJu - (지역특산물 브랜드 개발 사례 연구 - 무주군 복분자 음료 생산 농가를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a brand naming strategy for rural specialty products of Muju. This study was to apply brand development research to the field. The selected investigation subject, a local farming operation producing a specialty product, was chosen from a New Enterprise Support Project of Farm Women ('06). The selected subject was a farming operation producing bokbunja drink in Muju. The data was derived from 137 female consumers. The major results of this study were as follows. First, the process of brand development strategy was advanced by six steps: Step 1, environment analysis; Step 2, brand case study; Step 3, SWOT analysis (Strength Weakness, Opportunity, Threat factor analysis); Step 4, direction design for brand naming development (Targeting, Brand focus concept extraction); Step 5, brand logo and symbol production; and Step6, Evaluation. Second, to extract brand naming development direction, key concepts in association with natural connection, area features, representative resources, and natural friendship were investigated. Namely, the health function concept was selected on the basis of a consumer recognition investigation where results appeared most highly favorable. Also, it was decided that the direction of brand naming should emphasize a green image and the location name of Muju. Finally, the brand name was decided to be "Saenggichan" bokbunja liquid and the slogan went with "guchondon-native thorn bokbunja from jar maturing."

A Study on the recognitions and effects of Urban Regeneration factors -focused on Busan's village activist trainees- (도시재생 전략요인에 관한 인식과 영향 연구 -부산시 마을활동가 교육생을 대상으로-)

  • Urban regeneration can be an effective tool to promote sustainability and enhance quality of village. Urban regeneration can be considered to be the process of reversing economic, social and physical decay having reached the point where market forces alone will not suffice. For this study, 154 village activist trainees are surveyed. Using the survey results, factor analysis, multi-regression analysis is conducted to identify the factor's significance and to find improvement properties by composing the significance and the satisfaction level. The purpose of this study is to suggest strategy of urban regeneration through the effect of urban regeneration factor on recognition and satisfaction. The findings show that environmental regeneration factor is more influential than economic, social and cultural factors on recognition and satisfaction. This study provide a convenient set of indicators for strategic focus to help urban regeneration policy.

  • As social institution, the public libraries in changing social environment are required to adopt a more systematic and efficient managerial strategy, only to function properly and to achieve the given goal. In this context, the specialization of the public libraries means the provision of information and library services through differentiation and focus strategy, and should be realized for the efficient library management. In order to examine the specialization of the public libraries in Korea, this study builds the theoretical background of the specialization of the public libraries, looks into the current situation of the public libraries, investigates and analyzes the specialization of the public libraries in terms of information and library services, and suggests some recommendation for improvement. By so doing this study aims at enhancing our understanding of the specialization of the libraries as a whole.

A Study of Home-furnishing Products Strategy through the Consumption Tendency Analysis of Single Household (1인 가구의 소비성향 분석을 통한 홈퍼니싱 제품전략 연구)

  • Single households currently account for 26.5% of all households and their number is expected to continue to rise, reaching 34.5% by 2035. An analysis of the consumption trends and needs of single households shows that they are rising as a new consumer group with a focus on investment on the individual and favouring: small but high-tech products: efficient use of limited resources: safety and peace of mind: self-improvement and leisure. Products which meet such demands are having an impact on the growth of home-furnishing market. An analysis of companies in Korea's home-furnishing market, with examples like the lifestyle company IKEA, shows a variety of brands such as SPA brand, furniture specialist, distributor and character products. And yet most are OEM products which lack differentiated product lines and compete with similar display and distribution structure. We needs the Single household consumption tendency of home-furnishing market and differentiation strategy through product analysis. In order to increase the value of companies in the home-furnishing market, in addition to differentiated design, product competitiveness must aspire to higher customer satisfaction with easy assembly, innovation in logistics, innovative sales methods such as virtual-reality simulation for products and space, individually-tailored furniture for the needs of single household and products which combine smart technology. For home-grown home-furnishing brands to have competitiveness, they must leverage on the strengths of the industry, offering differentiated and competitive products in a wider range of areas with convergence functions as well as differentiation in consumer interface and application of advancing technology; in-depth product research is called for.
