Adenomyosis is a common gynecological disorder characterized by the presence of endometrial glands and stroma deep within the myometrium associated with myometrial hypertrophy and hyperplasia. Focal uterine infarction after IVF-ET in a patient with adenomyosis following biochemical pregnancy has not been previously reported, although it occurs after uterine artery embolization in order to control symptoms caused by fibroids or adenomyosis. We report a case of a nulliparous woman who had uterine adenomyosis presenting with fever, pelvic pain and biochemical abortion after undergoing an IVF-ET procedure and the detection of a slightly elevated serum hCG. Focal uterine infarction was suspected after a pelvic magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated preserved myometrium between the endometrial cavity and inner margin of the necrotic myometrium. This case demonstrates that focal uterine infarction should be considered in the differential diagnosis of acute abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding and infectious signs in women experiencing biochemical abortion after an IVF-ET procedure.
Objective : The authors investigate the spatial characteristics of apoptotic genes expressed around the focal cerebral infarction, and attempted to explain the penumbra with them. Methods : A delayed focal cerebral infarction was created in twelve adult Sprague-Dawley rats. We performed the immunohistochemical staining for the apoptosis, bcl-2 and p53 proteins and measured the local cerebral blood flow [CBF] at the infarction core area and peri-infarct area pre- and intra-operatively. The peri-infarct area was divided into six sectors by distance from the infarction border. Results : The size [$mm^2$] of apoptosis, bcl-2, and p53 areas were $3.1{\pm}1.2$, $4.7{\pm}2.1$, and $6.8{\pm}2.4$, respectively. Apoptosis, bcl-2 or p53 positive cells were concentrated at the peri-infarct area adjacent to the infarction core. Their numbers reduced peripherally, which was inversely proportional to the local CBF. The p53 area seems to overlap with and larger than the ischemic penumbra. Conclusion : The p53 positive area provides a substitutive method defining the penumbra under the molecular base of knowledge.

Thermal imaging system is implemented for the measurement and the analysis of the thermal distribution of the target objects. The main Part of the system is thermal camera in which a focal plane array typed sensor is introduced The sensor detects mid-range infrared spectrum or target objects and then it output generic video signal which should be processed to form a thermal image frame. A digital signal processor(DSP) in the system inputs analog to digital converted data. performs algorithms to improve the thermal images and then outputs the corrected frame data to frame buffers for NTSC encoding and for digital outputs.. To enhance the quality of the thermal images, two point correction method is applied. Figures indicate that the corrected thermal images are much improved.
The finite schematic eye based on spherical aberration and Stiles-Crawford effect is designed by an optimization method. It consists of four aspherical surfaces. The radius of curvature, thickness, asphericity, and spherical aberration are used as constraints in the optimization process. Stiles-Crawford effect in the pupil is considered as a weighting value for optimum design. The designed schematic eye has effective focal length of 20.8169 mm, back focal length of 15.4820 mm, front focal length of -13.8528 mm, and image distance of 15.7150 mm. When the pupil diameter is 4 mm, the diameter of entrance pupil and exit pupil are 4.6919 mm and 4.2395 mm, respectively. From the data of 75 measured Korean emmetropic eyes, this finite schematic eye is designed first in Korea.

We report a focal-length tunable liquid lens based on thermopneumatically driven fluidic pressure. The fluidic pressure is generated by deformation of an elastomeric diaphragm induced by thermopneumaticity from a laterally integrated microheater sealed within an air chamber. The pressure is transmitted by a confined liquid to a lens diaphragm through an internal fluid channel. The liquid filling under the lens diaphragm functions as a liquid lens for dynamic focusing with properties depending on the curvature of the deformed diaphragm. The diaphragm area of the air chamber is designed five times larger than that of the lens cavity to yield high focal-length tunability by amplified deflection of the lens diaphragm. With our method, we achieved excellent focal-length tunability from infinity (without an input current) to 4 mm (with an input current of 12 mA) with a lens aperture diameter of 2 mm.
Scanning Laser Optical Tweezers(SLOT) is an optical instrument frequently employed on a microscope with laser being delivered through its various ports. In most SLOT systems, a mechanical tilt stage with a mirror on top is used to dynamically move the laser focal point in two-dimensions. The focal point acts as a tweezing spot, trapping nearby microscopic objects. By adding a mechanical translational stage with a lens, SLOT can be expanded to work in three-dimensions. When two mechanical stages operate together, the focal point can address a closed three-dimensional volume that we call a workspace. It would be advantageous to have a large workspace since it means one can trap and work on multiple objects without interruptions, such as translating the microscope stage. However, previous studies have paid less consideration of the volumetric size of the workspace. In this paper, we propose a new method for designing a SLOT such that its workspace is maximized through optimization. The proposed method utilizes a matrix based ray tracing method and genetic algorithm(GA). To demonstrate the performance of the proposed method, experimental results are shown.

Focal osteoporotic bone marrow defect (FOBMD) is a radiolucent area corresponding to the presence of hematopoietic tissue rarely found in the jaws. FOBMD is most commonly located in the mandibular edentulous posterior area of a middle-aged female. From November 2011 to November 2012, we experienced three cases involving removal of implants that had accidentally fallen into the FOBMD area. All patients happened to be female, with a mean age of 54 years (range: 51-60 years). One case involved hypoesthesia of the lower lip and chin, while two cases healed without any complication. Displacement of an implant into the FOBMD area is an unusual event, which occurs rarely during placement of a dental fixture. The purpose of this study was to report on three cases of FOBMD and to provide a review of related literature.
Downregulation of olfactomedin-4 (OLFM4) is associated with tumor progression, lymph node invasion and metastases. However, whether or not downregulation of OLFM4 is associated with epigenetic silencing remains unknown. In this study, we investigate the role of OLFM4 in gastric cancer cell invasion. We confirm the previous result that OLFM4 expression is increased in gastric cancer tissues and decreases with an increasing number of metastatic lymph nodes, which are associated with OLFM4 promoter hypermethylation. Overexpression of OLFM4 in gastric cancer cells had an inhibitory effect on cell invasion. Furthermore, we found that focal adhesion kinase (FAK) was negatively correlated with OLFM4 in regards to lymph node metastasis in gastric cancer tissues. Also, inhibition of FAK induced by OLFM4 knockdown resulted in a decrease in cell invasion. Thus, our study demonstrates that epigenetic silencing of OLFM4 enhances gastric cancer cell invasion via activation of FAK signaling.

It is difficult to see a therapeutic effect from cardiovascular disease treatment methods in the case of a hardened chronic total occlusion (CTO), owing to the calcification of the deposition materials. However, lesion cells, such as CTOs, can be selectively necrotized without affecting the normal tissue using high-intensity ultrasound focused on one point. In this study, a phantom CTO was necrotized by a high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) energy system, and the acoustic characteristics in the focal region were analyzed. An experimental HIFU device was constructed to discover the appropriate conditions for the necrosis of a phantom CTO. The transfer characteristics of the ultrasound changed in the focal region by the density difference of the phantom CTO. These changes were acoustically analyzed to choose the available frequency band for each density. On-off temperature control in the focal region was applied to prevent rapid temperature rises, which would otherwise affect normal tissue.
In this paper, position control of focal plane compensation device using piezoelectric actuator is conducted. The forcal plane compensation device installed on earth observation satellite camera compensates micro-vibration from reaction wheels. In this study, four experimental models of the open-loop compensation device are derived using MATLAB system identification toolbox in the input range of 0~50Hz. Subsequently, the PID controller for each model is designed and the performance test of each controller is conducted through MATLAB/Simulink. According to frequency response analysis of the closed-loop compensation device system, the PID controller designed for 38~50Hz input range has enough tracking performance for the whole 0~50Hz input range. The maximum output error is about $1{\mu}m$ for the input range. The simulation results has been verified by the experimental method.
