  • In this paper ASIC design technique using VHDL is applied to MRAS based speed sensorless control of induction motor. ASIC for MRAS based speed sensorless control is designed through the description of speed estimator using FSM, stator voltage controller, flux angle detector, coordinate transformation, and inverter switching signal output. Finally the above system has been implemented on the FPGA (VERTEX XCV400HQ240). Simulation and experiment have been performed to verify the performance of the designed ASIC.

  • In this paper, simultaneous estimation of rotor speed and time constant for a voltage source inverter (VSI) fed induction motor drive are disccussed. The theory is based on the Model Reference Adaptive System (MRAS). The identifier executes Simultaneous rotor speed and time constant so that vector control of the induction may be achieved in the rotor-flux oriented reference frame. Furthermore, to eliminate the offset error caused by the change in the stator resistance, a fuzzy resistance regulator is also designed which operates in parallel with the rotor speed and time constant identifier

  • This paper reports a simple posteriori error estimate method for adaptive finite element mesh generation using quadratic shape function especially for the magnetic field problems. The elements of quadratic shape function have more precise solution than those of linear shape function. Therefore, the difference of two solutions gives error quantity. The method uses the magnetic flux density error as a basis for refinement. This estimator is tested on two dimensional problem which has singular points. The estimated error is always under estimated but in same order as exact error, and this method is much simpler and more convenient than other methods. The result shows that the adaptive mesh gives even better rate of convergence in global error than the uniform mesh.

  • This paper reports a new and simple posteriori error estimate method for adaptive finite element mesh genration especially for the magnetic field problems. To estimate local errors, we consider the interelement boundary conditions. Elements which violate much the conditions are considered to have great errors. Magnetic flux density errors are considered as a basis for refinement. This estimator is tested on two dimensional proplems with singular points. The estimated errors are always under estimated but in same order as exact errors, and this algorithm is much simpler and more convenient than other methods. The adaptive mesh gives much better rate of convergence in global errors than the uniform mesh.

  • The effect of sensor faults in direct torque control(DTC) based induction motor drives is analyzed and a new Instrument fault detection isolation scheme(IFDIS) is proposed. The proposed IFDIS, which operated in real-time, detects and isolates the incipient fault(s) of speed sensor and current sensors that provide the feedback information. The scheme consists of an adaptive gain scheduling observer as a residual generator and a special sequential test logic unit. The observer provides not only the estimate of stator flux, a key variable in DTC system, but also the estimates of stator current and rotor speed that are useful for fault detection. With the test logic, the IFDIS has the functionality of fault isolation that only multiple estimator based IFDIS schemes can have. Simulation results for various type of sensor faults show the detection and isolation performance of the IFDIS and the applicability of this scheme to fault tolerant control system design.

  • A sensorless control for an IPM (Interior Permanent Magnet) synchronous motor in a single piston rotary compressor is presented in this study. The rotor position is estimated from the d-axis and q-axis current errors between the real system and a motor model of the position estimator. The torque pulsation of the single piston rotary compressor is compensated to reduce speed ripples, as well as, mechanical noise and vibration. The proposed sensorless drive enables the compressor to operate at a lower speed which increases energy savings and reduces mechanical noise. It also gives high speed operations by a flux weakening control for rapid air-cooling and heating of the heat pump air-conditioners.

  • This paper presents estimation of d-axis and q-axis inductance of an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) by using an extended Kalman filter (EKF). The EKF is widely used for control applications including the motor sensorless control and parameter estimation. The motor parameters can be changed by temperature and air-gap flux. In particular, the variation of the inductance affects torque characteristics like the maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) control. Therefore, by estimating the parameters, it is possible to improve the torque characteristics of the motor. The performance of the proposed estimator is verified by simulations and experimental results based on an 11kW PMSM drive system.

  • This paper presents a hybrid sensorless control for an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) for zero-, low-, and high-speed regions. Many sensorless control methods such as an observer-based estimator have been introduced. However, most of the observer-based estimators have a disadvantage at start-up and in the low-speed region. To solve this problem, a simple strategy of using a hybrid system is proposed by integrating a high-frequency (HF) signal injection method and a full-order flux observer. In addition, an HF signal injection method with only a low pass filter (LPF) is proposed to simplify the hybrid system. The hybrid system achieves high-performance drive throughout the entire speed range. The effectiveness of the proposed hybrid technique is verified by experiments using an 11-kW IPMSM drive system.

  • We present a method to estimate 3-component plasma velocity (Vx, Vy and Vz) at solar photosphere near solar disk center, using the Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) onboard the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) called Space-weather HMI Active Region Patch (SHARP). In Heliocentric-Cartesian Coordinates, the component of Vz is obtained from Dopplergram while the components of Vx and Vy are derived from the relation of $B_z{\overrightarrow{u}}=B_z{\overrightarrow{{\nu}_t}}-{\nu}_z{\overrightarrow{B_t}}$ (Demoulin & Berger 2003) using a series of vector magnetograms by an optical flow technique NAVE (Nonlinear Affine Velocity Estimator). This velocity measurement method is applied to AR 12158 producing an X1.6 flare along with a coronal mass ejection. We find noticeable upflow motions at both ends of flux ropes which become a major eruption part, and strong transverse motions nearby them before the eruption. We will discuss the change of plasma motions and magnetic fields before and after the eruption.
