A cooling performance analysis has been made in the 8-channel calorimeter based on sub-scale KSR-III engine. Three-dimensional heat transfer analysis in cooling channels has been performed using the heat flux distribution through the chamber wall predicted from axi-symmetric compressible flow inside the combustion chamber. The heat flux distribution is verified against the published literature. Presented for the development and operation of the calorimeter are the coolant pressure drop, coolant temperature rise and the maximum chamber wall temperature. Required coolant flow rate is determined for given chamber pressure. Cooling performance is also predicted for temperature dependant coolant properties.

Soil $CO_2$ emission is one of the primary components in carbon balance of terrestrial ecosystems. To accurately assess their net ecosystem exchange of $CO_2$ and net primary production, measurement of soil $CO_2$ efflux is required along with that of canopy $CO_2$ flux. In this paper, soil $CO_2$ flux measurement technique using closed dynamic chamber systems is briefly reviewed. Preliminary results on soil $CO_2$ exchange and inter-comparison of different measurement systems currently used in Korean regional network of tower flux measurement sites (KoFlux) are also reported.

The soil NO flux measurements in Korea were made from 17 May 1997 to 16 June 1997 on grass land at Kunsan National University in southwestern Korea by using flow-through chamber technique. The experiment was conducted in an effort to determine the role of natural emissions of NO on rural atmospheric photochemistry, and to understand the soil NO emission mechanism with respect to soil parameters. Soil NO fluxes were measured every minutes and averaged in every 15 minutes as well as soil temperature. Soil samples were analyzed for $NO_3^-, NH_4^+$, and moisture in soil. Soil nitrate was not detected in most times, and total N-containing was limited in site soils. There was a optimum range of soil moisture and temperature for soil NO flux. The overall average of soil NO emission rates were found to be 1.30 $\pm 0.92 ngNm^{-2}s^{-1}$ (n=1219), and ranged from 0.01 ngNm^{-2}s^{-1}$ to 5.62 ngNm^{-2}s^{-1}$. Diurnal variation of soil NO emission was typical, which was in higher level during daytime, and was in lower level over the night. NO flux showed a strong soil temperature dependence $(r^2=0.78)$, but not with soil moisture and soil N-containing during this experimental period; NO fluxes increased exponentially as soil temperature increased. In order to assure the relevant relationship between soil NO flux and the soil parameters, long-term soil flux measurement on different types of land use should be planned and conducted continuously.
The purpose of this study is to characterize the iontophoretic transport of growth hormone releasing peptides (GHRP-6) through hairless mouse skin from aqueous solution. The effect of various factors, such as pH, poloarity, current profile, current density, current duration, ionic strength, drug concentration, and enhancer application was studied to obtain basic knowledge on the transport. We have also studied the stability of GHRP-6 in solution with/without current. The donor chamber was filled with phosphate buffer solution containing GHRP-6 and the receptor chamber was filled with phosphate buffer solution (pH 7.4). Ag/AgCl electrode was used for their stability and reversibility. At a predetermined time interval, sampling was made and the concentration of drug was analysed using HPLC system. The results showed that, compared to passive flux, the total amount of drug transported increased markedly by the application of anodal current. Cathodal flux was similar to passive flux. Flux increased with the current density, the duration of current application and drug concentration. The effect of enhancers on the flux was studied using hydrophilic (5% N-methyl pyrrolidone) and hydrophobic (5% propylene glycol monolaurate, 5% oleic acid) enhancers. Application of enhancer also increased the flux.
This paper illustrates the validity of reciprocating type superadiabatic combustor as a industrial applicable dryer. After the investigations of inner and surface temperature distributions of combustor various with air-fuel(methane) ratio, mixture flow rate and reciprocating time, this combustor can be applied in industrial dryer at certain operating conditions. The results are as follows. 1) Higher equilivalence ratio emits more radiation heat flux at the censer chamber 2) Higher mixture flow rate makes more uniform temperature distribution. however, due to the heat transfer from censer chamber to porous media, the radiation beat flux is worse. 3) Longer reciprocating time emit more radiation heat flux. however, this case also makes temperature distribution wide

Next to carbon dioxide, methane is the second largest contributor to global warming among anthropogenic greenhouse gases. Methane is emitted into the atmosphere from both natural and anthropogenic sources. Natural sources include wetlands, termites, wildries, ocean and freshwater. Anthropogenic sources include landfill, natural gas and oil production, and agriculture. These manmade sources account for about 70% of total global methane emissions; and among these, landfill accounts for approximately 10% of total manmade emissions. Solid waste landfills produce methane as bacteria decompose organic wastes under anaerobic conditions. Methane accounts for approximately 45 to 50 percent of landfill gas, while carbon dioxide and small quantities of other gases comprise the remaining to 50 to 55 percent. Using the closed enclosure technique, surface emission fluxes of methane from the selected landfill sites were measured. These data were used to estimate national methane emission rate from domestic landfills. During the three different periods, flux experiments were conducted at the sites from June 30 through December 26, 1999. The chamber technique employed for these experiments was validated in situ. Samples were collected directly by on-site flux chamber and analyzed for the variation of methane concentration by gas chromatography equipped with FID. Surface emission rates of methane were found out to vary with space and time. Significant seasonal variation was observed during the experimental period. Methane emission rates were estimated to be 64.5$\pm$54.5mgCH$_4$/$m^2$/hr from Kimpo landifll site. 357.4$\pm$68.9mgCH$_4$/$m^2$/hr and 8.1$\pm$12.4mgCH$_4$/$m^2$/hr at KwanJu(managed and unmanaged), 472.7$\pm$1056mgCH$_4$/$m^2$/hr at JonJu, and 482.4$\pm$1140 mgCH$_4$/$m^2$/hr at KunSan. These measurement data were used for the extrapolation of national methane emission rate based on 1997 national solid waste data. The results were compared to those derived by theoretical first decay model suggested by IPCC guidelines.

The emission control of automobile has been intensified as a part of the countermeasure to decrease air pollution in the world. As the cars with an alternative fuel starts to get into the spotlight, the cars with low emission has been introduced and exhaust gas regulation forced in this country. These days, LPG vehicles, which infrastructure of fuel was already built up, and CNG vehicles are recognized for alternative fuel cars in this country. In this study, the constant volume combustion chamber was manufactured and used for experiments to obtain the combustion characteristics of propane mixture. The combustion characteristics was analyzed, with the change of supply conditions of propane fuel. Inside the combustion chamber, the maximum temperature increase with the initial pressure is going up. The burning velocity also seems to have the same characteristic as the temperature. However, the heat flux do not change much according to the theoretical correct mixture but it changes with the various initial temperature of the combustion chamber.

Hot-firing tests were carried out using a mixing head with 19 swirl coaxial injectors and a combustion chamber with internal cooling channels. The propellants of liquid oxygen and kerosene(Jet A-1) were burned in a range of chamber pressures (59~82 bar) and mixture ratios (2.0~3.0). The temperature of water used as the cooling fluid was measured at the inlet and outlet of the cooling channels, and the heat flux was calculated. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of combustion instability on heat transfer in a subscale thrust chamber, and detect the temperature variation of cooling water. During several hot-firing tests, combustion instability was encountered which caused a 5~20% increase in heat flux. The peak heat flux took place in the initial stages of combustion instability.

A design program has been developed to predict film cooling performance of a liquid rocket engine. A thermal protecting effect of low mixture ratio gas layer has been analysed by CFD. A one-dimensional film cooling model based on the CFD results has been implemented to the previously developed design program of regenerative cooling. Satisfactory agreement has been achieved by comparing the predicted maximum heat flux at the throat of a subscale chamber and the average measured value, and the predicted nozzle average heat flux and the measured value for a full scale chamber with film cooling. It is ascertained that the film cooling is effective to reduce the throat heat flux in rocket engine chamber.
