Fluidized bed reactors operated in subatmospheric pressure has been focused because several industrial applications such as vacuum drying and plasma cvd requires reduced pressure fludization. However, the hydrodynamics of fluidized beds in subatmospheric pressure has not been extensively investigated. The pressure drop in the fluidized bed has been measured with variation of downstream pressures from 1.33 to 101.3 kPa in the shallow and deep fluidized beds under the sub-atmospheric pressures. The obtained minimum fluidization velocity of powders is a function of pressure due to the changes of gas density and mean free path. We can experimentally determine the critical Knudsen number and the critical pressure to define the slip regime significantly to influence the hydrodynamics of fluidized beds.

Drying of granules for tablet formulation is one of the important unit operations. The loss on drying method is traditionally used for this purpose. However, it is a time-consuming method, requiring at least 1 h. Moreover, it is ineffective in monitoring the moisture content of granules during the drying process. In this study, online real-time monitoring of moisture content during the drying process was successfully performed using near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy. NIR spectra were collected during 15 different drying batches for developing a reliable NIR spectroscopic method. Such a large number of batches were used to develop a more robust partial least squares (PLS) model. NIR spectra collected from 12 batches were used for developing the model that was validated by predicting the moisture content of the samples in the remaining 3 batches. The standard errors of predictions (SEPs) in the measurement of batch 1, batch 2, and batch 3 were 0.52%, 0.57%, and 0.56%, respectively. The online NIR spectroscopic method developed in this study was reliable and accurate in monitoring the moisture content during the drying process.

The drying characteristics of fluidized bed drying with different drying conditions using naked barley were carried out. This fluidized drying mechanism of naked barley was consisted of consecutive two falling rate parts, first falling rate period and second falling rate period without showing constant rate period. The drying rate constant was increased with decreasing charged amount and relative humidity and increasing air temperature and air velocity. Since the drying rate constant expressed by Arrhenius type equation in the falling rate period showed good linearity, the falling rate period was considered as the controlling step. The activation energy of first falling step was 1,900 cal/gmol, while for second falling step the values showed 2,500 cal/gmol.
The effects of inlet gas velocity (0.26-0.31 m/s), inlet gas temperature (315-353 K) and the mass ratio (0.1-0.4) of fine polymer (crosslinked poly methyl methacrylate beads) to inert medium particles on the drying rate of fine polymer in a 0.15 m-ID ${\times}$ 1.0 m-high inert medium fluidized bed dryer have been investigated. Crosslinked PMMA beads of 20 ${\mu}m$ (group C) were used as fine polymer, and glass beads of 590 ${\mu}m$ (group B) were used as the inert medium. The drying rate increases with increasing inlet gas temperature and velocity. However, the drying rate decreases slightly as the mass ratio of fine polymer to inert medium particles increases. The particle size distribution of dried fine polymers was mono distribution.
Co-incineration of coal and wastewater sludge was r;erfonn:rl in a O.lMWth bench scale circulating fluidized bed combustor(CFBC) Sludge was received from a wastewater treatment plant in a dye industrial complex in Busan. Metropolis. Moisture content of received sludge was 80%. Coal and sludge mixture was prepared with weight ratio of 90/10, 85/15 and 80/20. Co-combustion characteristics of the coal and sludge mixture demonstrated stable combustion conditions. Component analysis, incineration characteristics, boiler performance was measured before and after the test and application for commercial 59MWth CFBC boiler. The release of hazardous components such as $SO_2$ and Cl was suppressed by the presence of inherent minerals of Ca, Na, K in coal and sludge mixture. Pre-drying was not essential but it was recommended for the benefits of manageability of sludge.

In this study, Indonesia low rank coal, which has moisture content of around 26%, is dried less than 5% by using a laboratory-scale (batch type) steam fluidized-bed dryer in order to produce the low-moisture, high rank coal. Normally, CCS (carbon capture and storage) process discharges $CO_2$ and steam mixture gas around $100-150^{\circ}C$ of temperature after regeneration reactor. The final purpose of this research is to dry low rank coal by using the outlet gas of CCS process. At this stage, steam is used as heat source for drying through the heat exchanger and $CO_2$ is used as fluidizing gas to the dryer. The experimental variables were the steam flow rate ranging from 0.3 to 1.1 kg/hr, steam temperature ranging from 100 to $130^{\circ}C$, and bed height ranging from 9 to 25 cm. The characteristics of the coal, before and after drying, were analyzed by a proximate analysis, the heating value analysis and particle size analysis. In summary, the drying rate of low rank coal was increased as steam flow rate and steam temperature increased and increased as bed height decreased.
This investigation was aimed at developing a ready-to-reconstitute beverage by utilizing probiotics and whey protein hydrolysates carrying bioactive peptides. Cheddar cheese whey was ultrafiltered. The 18% protein retentate was subjected to protein hydrolysis using Neutrase. The hydrolyzed retentate was further condensed to 35% total solids and spray-dried at $75^{\circ}C$ outlet air temperature. Different levels of sugar, citric acid and stabilizer were blended for spray-dried hydrolysates. Spray-dried hydrolysate was further inoculated with different levels of probiotics grown in a whey medium and dried in fluidized-bed drier at $40^{\circ}C$ to obtain a ready-to-reconstitute beverage. Hydrolysis was greatest at an enzyme:substrate ratio of 1:25 for 3 h. Spray-dried hydrolysate reconstituted to 1% protein and blended with 15% sugar, 0.2% citric acid and 0.15% xantham gum resulted in a superior product with no sedimentation. Accordingly, sugar, citric acid and xanthum gum were dry-blended with spray-dried hydrolysates. Bifidobacterium bifidum and Lactobacillus acidophilus that was grown separately in a whey medium, blended to produce 2% spray-dried hydrolysate and dried as described above resulted in a readyto-reconstitute beverage mix. The fluidized dried product typically exhibited a probiotic count of $10^8$colony forming units (CFU)/g. However, blending of probiotic to the retentate and direct spray-drying precipitously reduced the probiotic count to $10^4$ CFU/g of powder.
The influencing factor in drying characteristics of fluidized bed drying with different drying conditions for husked barley were carried out. This fluidized drying mechanism of husked barley was consisted of consecutive two falling rate parts, first falling rate period and second falling rate period without showing constant rate period. The drying rate constant was increased with decreasing charged amount and relative humidity and increasing air temperature and air velocity. Since the drying rate constant expressed by Arrhenius type equation in the falling rate period showed good linearity, the falling rate period was condsidered as the controlling step. The activation energy of first falling step was 1,100 cal/gmol, while for second falling step the values showed 1,600 cal/gmol.

The Rapid Expansion of supercritical fluid Solutions (RESS) process was applied to particles coating. Experiments were conducted in a fluidized bed with an internal nozzle in the center of the reaction tube. Microcapsules (mean particle size : 49$\mu\textrm{m}$) prepared by spray drying method were used as the core particles. Supercritical CO2 solutions of paraffin were expanded through the nozzle in to the bed that was fluidized by air. Surface morphology prepared particles was observed by SEM. For the inspection of particle size change, particle size distributions were measured before and after coating. The releasing behavior of Mg2+ ions inspected by AA.
$K_2CO_3$-based dry regenerable sorbents were prepared by spray-drying techniques to improve mass produced $K_2CO_3-Al_2O_3$ sorbents (KEP-CO2P, hereafter), and then tested for their $CO_2$ sorption capacity by a $2,000Nm^3/h$ (0.5 MWe) $CO_2$ capture pilot plant built for Unit 3 of the Hadong thermal power station in 2010. Each of the sample sorbents contained 35 wt.% $K_2CO_3$ as the active materials with various support materials such as $TiO_2$, MgO, Zeolite 13X, $Al_2O_3$, $SiO_2$ and hydrotalcite (HTC). Their physical properties and reactivity were tested to evaluate their applicability to a fluidized-bed or fast transport-bed $CO_2$ capture process. The $CO_2$ sorption capacity and percentage utilization of $K_2CO_3$-MgO based sorbent, Sorb-KM2, was $8.6g-CO_2/100g$-sorbents and 90%, respectively, along with good mechanical strength for fluidized-bed application. Sorbs-KM2 and KT were almost completely regenerated at $140^{\circ}C$. No degradation of Sorb-KM by $SO_2$ added as a pollutant in flue gas was observed during a cycle test.
