The Study on the Development of The Non-Gravity Fluidized Dryer (무중력 유동층 건조기 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the non-gravity fluidized dryer. In this non-gravity fluidized dryer the fluidized zone is produced by two paddles in mixer, which maximizes the surface area of materials and then heated air through the guiding panels dehumidify them. This can conduct the drying process quickly and control moisture contents to lower limits. The ventilation system is closed loop system, which can be changeable to open system, and can be used as a multi-purposed dryer in which mixing, drying, granulating and cooling process is conducted. In order to develop the non-gravity fluidized dryer, in the first fundamental experiments were performed to mixing accuracy and then the other parts of dryer and control system were examined to check whether they were designed properly and operated harmoniously with mixer. Also the preparatory experiments were fulfilled to examine the efficiency and reliability of the dryer. Lastly, on the basis of preparatory experiments, performance test for the non-gravity fluidized dryer carried out for the variation of the initial moisture contents, desired moisture contents, heated air velocity and heating temperature.

  • Combustion performance of an internally cycloned circulating fluidized bed for paper sludge was discussed through a series of batch type experiments. Operation parameters such as water content, feeding mass of sludge and secondary air injection rate were varied to find out the effect on the combustion performance, which was examined with carbon conversion rate and pollutant emission such as CO and NOx. A conventional solid fuel reaction was observed in the experiments of varying water content and feeding mass of the sludge, which is characterized with kinetic limited reaction zone, diffusion limited reaction zone and transition zone. Secondary air injection with swirl enhances the mixing of the gas phase as well as the solid phase, and improves combustion efficiency accompanied with higher carbon conversion rate and lower pollutant emission rate.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a new type dryer, which is to proceed mixing and drying of wet-materials at the same time and drying process is carried out in a closed system. In this drying system, thermal contact occurs, when a fluidized zone is created by paddle mechanism. Accordingly, wet-materials is dried in a short time without any damage. Also wet-materials could be dried uniformly to low moisture contents. It is suitable to dry a small quantity of multi-kind materials. And drying process is carried out in a closed system, so as for environmental pollution dust not to be emitted into the atmosphere. Accordingly, it could be used to dry not only food and chemical materials, but also environmental pollution materials.

  • A fluidized bed reactor containing porous media has been known to be effective for nitrogen and organic matters removal in wastewater. The porous media which attached microbes plays important roles in simultaneous nitrification/denitrification (SND) due to coexistence of oxic, anaerobic and anoxic zone. For SND reaction, oxygen and organic substrates should be effectively diffused from wastewater into the intra-carrier zone. However, the overgrowth heterotrophic microbes at the surface of porous media may restrict from substrates diffusion. From these viewpoints, the existence and effect of heterotrophic bacteria at surface of porous media might be the key point for nitrogen removal. A porous media-membrane hybrid process was found to have improved nitrogen removal efficiency, due to stimulated denitrification as well as nitrification. Microelectrode studies revealed that although intra-media denitrification rate in a conventional fluidized bed was limited by organic carbon, this limitation was reduced in the hybrid process, resulting in the increased denitrification rate from 0.5 to $4.2\; mgNO_3-N/L/hr$.

  • In general, the circulation path of the fluidized particles in a CFB (Circulating Fluidized Bed) boiler is such that the particles entrained from a combustor are collected by a cyclone and recirculated to the combustor via a sealpot which is one of non-mechanical valves. However, when a fluidized bed heat exchanger (FBHE) is installed to additionally absorb heat from the fluidized particles, some particles in the sealpot pass through the FBHE and then flow into the combustor. At this time, in the FBHE operated in the bubbling fluidization regime, if the heat flow is not evenly distributed by poor mixing of the hot particles (800~950 ℃) flowing in from the sealpot, the heat exchanger tubes would be locally heated and then damaged, and the agglomeration of particles could also occur by formation of hot spot. This may affect the stable operation of the circulating fluidized bed. In this study, the unevenness of heat flow arising from structural problems of the FBHE of the domestic D-CFB boiler was found through the operating data analysis and the CPFD (Computational Particle Fluid Dynamics) simulation using Barracuda VR. Actually, the temperature of the heat exchanger tubes in the FBHE showed the closest correlation with the change in particle temperature of the sealpot. It was also found that the non-uniformity of the heat flow was caused by channeling of hot particles flowing in from the sealpot. However, it was difficult to eliminate the non-uniformity even though the fluidizing velocity of the FBHE was increased enough to fluidize hot particles vigorously. When the premixing zone for hot particles flowing in from the sealpot is installed and when the structure is changed through the symmetrization of the FBHE discharge line for particles reflowing into the combustor, the particle mixing and the uniformity of heat flow were found to be increased considerably. Therefore, it could be suggested that the structural modification of the FBHE, related to premixing and symmetric flow of hot particles, is an alternative to reduce the non-uniformity of the heat flow and to minimize the poor particle mixing.

Biofilm Processes for Volume Decrease in Recirculating Water Treatment Systems for Aquaculture

  • The engineering aspect of water treatment processes in the recirculating aquaculture system was studied. To recycle the water in the aquaculture system, a wastewater treatment process was required to maintain high water quality for the growth and health of the cultured fish. In this study, three different biofilm processes were used to reduce the concentration of organic matters and ammonia from the recirculating water - two phase fluidized bed, three phase fluidized bed, and trickling filter. The objectives of this research were to evaluate the optimum treatment conditions of the biofilm processes for the recirculating aquaculture system, and thereby reduce the volume of biofilm processes, which are commonly used for the recycle water treatment processes for aquaculture. The result of this study showed that the removal efficiency of organic matters by trickling filter was found to be lower than that of the fluidized bed. In the trickling filter system, anthracite showed better organic removal efficiency than crushed stone as a media. In the two phase fluidized bed, the maximum removal efficiency of either organics or ammonia was obtained when both the packing rate of media was maintained to $40\%$ of total reactor depth excepting sediment zone and the bed expansion rate was maintained to $100\%$. When 100 tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) of each average 200g was reared, the pollutant production rate was 0.07g $NH_4\;^+-N/kg$ fish/day and 0.06g P04-3-P/kg fish/day, and sludge production rate was 0.39 g SS/kg fish/day. In the two phase and three phase fluidized bed, the volume of water treatment tank could be calculated from an empirical equation by using the relationship between the influent COD to $NH_4\;^+-N$ ratio (C/N, -), media concentration (Cm, g/L), influent ammonia nitrogen concentration (Ni, mg/L), effluent ammonia nitrogen concentration (Ne, mg/L), bed expansion rate $(E,\;\%)$, and influent flowrate $(Q,\;m^3/hr)$.   • It is important to keep the distribution of the raw material mixture constant, in order to maximize the effect of the pre-mix type repair mortar, and it is also necessary to increase the performance of the mixer in order to minimize the deviation of the product. In this study, three kinds of mixer used in production sites were used to make repair mortar and the properties of each mortar were examined. As a result, it is confirmed to the difference in properties of pre-mix type repair mortar differ depending on the type of mixer, and the fluidized zone mixer showed relatively good results. In addition, it is preferable to set the mixing time to about 10 minutes to 15 minutes in order to ensure workability and optimum physical properties.

  • Analyses for concentration, surface phenomena, and crystal structure were performed to identify the causes of clinker formation in three type of pulverized coal fired boilers. Some clinkers had partially molten surface and more CaO and $Fe_2O_3$ as compared with fly ash, and the major crystalline phases identified in the clinker were mullite and quartz. Clinkers were formed in high temperature zone of the boiler according to the identification of mullite by XRD. Free $SiO_2$ in sand combined with K, Na and Ca in limestone served as a fluxing agent to form clinkers in a circulating bed boiler.

A Study on the Use of Low-Grade Domestic Anthracite by Anthracite - Bituminous Coal Blend Combustion in a Fluidized Bed Combustor (유동층 연소로에서 유.무연탄 혼합 연소법을 이용한 국내산 저질 무연탄의 활용에 관한 연구)

  • It has been studded that combustion and the production of air pollution of anthracite - bituminous coal blend In a fluidized bed coal combustor, The objects of thIns study were to investigate mixing characteristics of the particles as well as the combustibility of the low grade domestic anthracite coal and Imported h19h calorific bltununous coal in the fluidized bed coal combustor. They were used as coal samples ; the domestic low grade anthracite coal with heating value of 2,010kca1/kg and the Imported high grade bituminous coal with beating value of 6,520kca1/kg. Also, the effects of air flow rate and anthracite fraction on the reaching time of steady state condition have been studied. The experimental results are presented as follows. The time of reaching to steady state was affected by the temperature variation. The steady state time was about 120 minute at 300sc1h which was the fastest. It has been found that $O^2$ and $CO^2$ concentration were reached steady state at about 100 minute. It has been found that $O^2$ concentration decreased and $CO^2$ concentration increased as the height of fluidlzed bed Increased. It was found that splash zone was mainly located from 25cm to 35cm above distributor. Also, as anthracite traction Increased, the mass of elutrlatlon particles Increased, and $CO^2$ concentration decreased. As gk flow rate Increased,$O^2$ concentration decreased and $CO^2$ concentration increased. Regardless of anthracite fraction and flow rate, the uncombustible weight percentage according to average diameter of elutriation particles were approldmately high In the case of One Particles. As anthracite traction and k now rate Increased, elutriation ratio Increased. As anthracite fraction was increased, exit combustible content over feeding combustible content was Increased. Regardless of anthracite fraction, size distribution of Ued material from discharge was almost constant. Over bed temperature 85$0^{\circ}C$ and excess air 20% , the difference of combution efficiencies were little. It is estimate that the combustion condition In anthracite-bituminous coal blend combustion is suitable at the velocity 0.3m/s, bed temperature 85$0^{\circ}C$, the excess air 20%.
