실차 시험을 통한 ER 현가장치의 성능평가 (Rerformance Evaluation of ER Suspensions Under Field Test)

  • This paper presents performance characteristics of a semi-active suspension featuring continuously variable ER (electro-rheological) dampers. These are evaluated through the field test of a passeng er car. Four ER dampers (two for front and two for rear part) are manufactured and their field-dependent damping properties are experimentally investigated. The damping force responses to step input fields are also identified by employing small size of high voltage amplifiers which are made adaptable to the field test. A skyhook controller considering the vertical, pitch and roll motions is formulated and incorporated with a car to be tested. The field test is then undertaken in order to evaluate both comfortability and steering stability showing bump, dive and squat responses.

  • This paper studies a semi-active suspension with ER damper controlled Fuzzy Net Controller designed GA(Genetic Algorithm). Apparent viscosity of ERF(Electro-Rheological Fluid) can be changed rapidly by applying electric field. Semi-active suspension for ground vehicles are expected to improve ride quality with less vibration. This paper deals with a two-degree -of-freedom suspension using the ER damper for a quarter vehicle system. In this paper, the GA is applied for generating Fuzzy Net Controllers. The GA designs the optimal structure and performance of Fuzzy Net Controller having hybrid structure. Computer simulation results show that the semi-active suspension with ER damper has good performances of ride quality.

  • To solve the problems of energy and environment conservation issued recently, mainly in mechanical engineering point of view, R&D's on the thermal, fluid and environmental engineering technology have been carried out by two R&D departments in the Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials (KIMM). Now there are 65 researchers in the two. The representative projects in the field of thermal and fluid engineering are development of an inactive gas generator and development of a cryogenic cooler for electronic sensors. Pyrolysis and melting of wastes, gas treatment using nonthermal plasma, and desalination are important technology to be developed in environmental R&D areas. To reduce the emission from the existing diesel engines for buses, an LPG direct injection type of bus engine is being developed supported by LPG supply companies. These several R&D projects which have been carried out in KIMM are introduced briefly.

밀폐공간내 자성유체의 유동특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Flow Analysis for Natural Convection of Magnetic Fluid in a Cubic Cavity)

  • Natural convection of a magnetic fluid is different from that of Newtonian fluids because magnetic body force exists in an addition to gravity and buoyancy. In this paper, natural convection of a magnetic fluids(W-40) in a cubic cavity is examined by numerical and experimental method. One side wall was kept at a constant temperature($25^{\circ}C$), and the opposite side wall was also held at a constant but lower temperature($20^{\circ}C$). Under above conditions, various magnitudes of the magnetic fields were applied up. GSMAC scheme is used for a numerical method, and the thermo-sensitive liquid crystal film(R20C5A) is utilized in order to visualize wall-temperature distributions as an experimental method. This study has resulted in the following fact that the natural convection of a magnetic fluids is controlled by the direction and intensity of the magnetic fields.

표면에 딤블이 있는 원주의 항력감소 (Drag Reduction of Cylinder with Dimpled Surface)

  • Fundamental studies on the drag reduction of the circular cylinder having dimple were conducted by the measurement of the fluid force acting on the cylinder and by the flow visualization around the cylinder. The drag coefficients were changed by the shape and the geometrical arrangement of the dimple. The drag of the cylinder was reduced about 25% by the proper arrangement of the dimple. The flow field around the cylinder having dimple, which was the minimum drag, was visualized by the hydrogen bubble technique. In this case, the separation points were moved rearward and the wake region was small in comparison with that of the cylinder having no dimple.

  • Metalworking fluids (MWFs) are fluids used during machining and grinding to prolong the life of the tool , carry away debris, and protect the surfaces of work pieces. These fluids reduce friction between the cutting tool and the work surface, reduce wear and galling, Protect surface characteristics, reduce surface adhesion or welding and carry away generated heat. Workers can be exposed to MWFs by inhaling aerosols (mists) and by skin contact with the fluid. Skin contact occurs by dipping the hands into the fluid, splashes, or handling workpieces coated with the fluids. The amount of mist generated (and the result ins level of exposure) depends on many factors. To reduce the potential health risks associated with occupational exposures to MWFs, it is required to establish optimum MWFs supply method and condition with minimum Quantity in all over the mechanical machining field including high speed type heavy cult ing process.

MR 유체를 이용한 제어 가능한 차량용 햅틱 노브 (Controllable Haptic Knob for Vehicle Instrument Using MR Fluids)

  • The paper presents control performance of a magnetorheological(MR) fluid-based haptic knob which is applicable to in-vehicle comfort functions. As a first step, MR fluid-based haptic knob is devised to be capable of both rotary and push motions with a single device. Under consideration of spatial limitation, design parameters are optimally determined to minimize a reciprocal of control torque using finite element analysis. The proposed haptic knob is then manufactured and its field-dependent torque is experimentally evaluated. Subsequently, in-vehicle comfort functions are constructed in virtual environment and make them communicate with the haptic knob. Control performances such as reflection force are experimentally evaluated via simple feed-forward control strategy.

고차 주파수 스펙트럼을 이용한 ER 유체 댐퍼의 비선형 특성 해석 및 모델링 연구 (The Nonlinear Analysis and Modeling of the ER Fluid Damper Using Higher Order Spectrum)

  • The nonlinear damping force model is made to identify the properties of the ER (electro-rheological) fluid suspension damper. The instrumentation is carried out to measure the damping force of the ER damper. The higher order spectral analysis method is used to investigate the nonlinear frequency coupling phenomena with the damping force signal according to the sinusoidal excitation of the damper. The distinctive higher order nonlinear characteristics are observed. The nonlinear damping force model, which has the higher order velocity terms, is proposed with the result of higher order spectrum analysis. The higher order terms coefficients, which vary according to the strength of the electric field, are calculated using the least square method.

  • This paper presents design.dynamic modeling and control issues of a novel type of an ER valve-cylinder system incorporating with an electro-rheological(ER) fluid. The yield stress of the ER fluid to be employed to the proposed system is evaluated as a function of applied electric fields. The design and manufacturing process of the ER valve which features fast system response and simple mechanism are undertaken on the basis of model parameters. The governing equation for the hydraulic and pneumatic model is constructed by incorporation with the field-dependent Bingham behavior of the ER fluid. An effective neuro controller is proposed to realize an accurate position control.

  • 우리나라의 국방 분야에서 모델링 및 시뮬레이션의 수준은 외국에 비해 상당히 저조하며, 무기체계의 연구 개발과 획득에서 신뢰성 부분을 해결하지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 전산유체역학을 이용하여 M&S를 공학적인 차원에서 모델링과 시뮬레이션의 적용 가능성을 제시하고, 향후 효과적인 무기체계의 연구개발과 획득에 적극 활용하고자 한다.
