  • This paper is to study the heat transfer performance of the copper-water heat pipe with screen wicks. Recently, the semiconductor capacity of an electronic unit becomes larger, but its size becomes much smaller. As a result, a high- performance cooling system is needed. Experimental variables are inclination angles, temperatures of cooling waters and the mesh number of screen wicks. The distilled water was used as a working fluid. Based on the experimental results, when the copper-water heat pipe of 6mm diameter is used at the top heat mode, the heat transfer performance of 100 mesh 2 layers heat pipe is better than that of 150 and 200 mesh. The thermal resistance of the two layers with the 100-mesh screen was 0.7-$0.8^{\circ}C$/W.

  • In modem wind power system of large capacity above 1MW, horizontal axis wind turbine(HAWT) is a common type. And, the optimum design of wind turbine to guarantee excellent power performance and its reliability in structure and longevity is a key technology in wind Industry. In this study, mathematical expressions based upon the conventional BEMT(blade element momentum theory) applying to basic 1MW wind turbine blade configuration design. Power coefficient and related flow parameters, such as Prandtl's tip loss coefficient, tangential and axial flow induction factors of the wind turbine analyzed systematically. X-FOIL was used to acquire lift and drag coefficients of the 2-D airfoils and we use Viterna-Corrigan formula to interpolate the aerodynamic characteristics in post-stall region. In order to predict the performance characteristics of the blade, a performance analysis carried out by BEMT method. As a results, axial and tangential flow factors, angle of attack, power coefficient investigated in this study.

  • An in vitro study was carried out to investigate the differences in rumen microbes and fiber degradation capacity between sheep and goats. Three local male sheep and three Inner Mongolia male cashmere goats (aged 1.5 to 2 years; weight 25.0 to 32.0 kg) were each fitted with a permanent rumen cannula used to provide rumen fluid. Cycloheximide was used to eliminate rumen anaerobic fungi. The results showed that the quantities of fungal zoospores in the culture fluid of the control group were significantly greater in the sheep than in the goats; however, bacteria and protozoa counts were significantly higher in goats than in sheep. The digestibility of straw dry matter did not differ significantly between the two species before elimination of fungi, but tended to be higher for sheep (55.4%) than for goats (53.3%). The results also indicated that bacteria counts increased significantly after elimination of anaerobic fungi; however, the digestibility of straw dry matter significantly decreased by 12.1% and 8.6% for sheep and goats respectively. This indicated that the anaerobic fungi of the rumen played an important role in degradation of fiber.

  • In this paper, a numerical analysis was performed to investigate the effect of the pitch angle of a helical nozzle on the performance characteristics of a vortex tube. Three-dimensional numerical simulation has been performed with standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model by using FLUENT 13.0. The effect of the pitch angle of helical nozzle was described in term of ${\beta}$. A CFD analysis was performed on ${\beta}=0^{\circ}$, $5^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$. In order to realize the influence of ${\beta}$ on performances of the vortex tube. Computation results were expressed by the ${\beta}-{\Delta}T_{h,c}$ graph and radial profiles of axial velocity and swirl velocity. The results showed that ${\beta}$ which improves energy separation capacity of vortex tube was $5^{\circ}$ at ${\alpha}=0.33$, 0.5 and $10^{\circ}$ at ${\alpha}=0.33$. Besides, It was confirmed that the results were closely related to axial velocity and swirl velocity.

  • Comparing to the gravimetric and volumetric method, the flowmeter calibration based on the master meter method is relatively economical and convenient, especially for high flowrate. The uncertainty of flow quantity and flowrate using the master meter method was evaluated according to the GUM (Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement). In order to apply for the wider flow range, two master meters (electromagnetic flow meter) were employed as reference flowmeters. The uncertainty of the master meter was obtained by combining the statistical variation of the repeated measurements and the variation of fluid density and pipe material due to temperature and pressure changes were scrutinized. for a practical application, the uncertainty of calibrator, whose measuring capacity of 1000 ㎥/h obtained by employing two 500 ㎥/h electromagnetic How meters, was evaluated. The uncertainty budget shows the quantitative contribution of each uncertainty component to the overall uncertainty of the calibrator. As a result, it was found that the dominant uncertainties were from the master meter, which was evaluated statistically, and from the process of least squares fitting. On the contrary, the uncertainties arising from the variation of the fluid density and the pipe volume due to the temperature and pressure were negligible.

  • The heat produced by the fission in the fuel of HANARO, 30 MW of research reactor, was transferred from the primary cooling water to the secondary cooling water through heat exchangers. The secondary cooling water absorbing the heat was circulated by secondary cooling pumps and cooled through 33 MW of cooling tower. Each capacity of the three secondary cooling pumps was fifty percent ($50\%$) of full load. The two pumps were normally operated and the other pump was standby. One of the secondary cooling pumps has often made troubles by high vibration. To release these troubles the pump shaft has been re-aligned, the pump bearing has been replaced with new one, the shaft sleeve has been replaced with new one, the shaft and the impeller have been re-balanced representatively and/or the vibration of motor has been tested by disconnecting the shaft of pump. But the high vibration of pump cannot be cleared. We find out the weight balance trouble of the assembly in which the impeller is installed in the shaft. After clearing the trouble, the high vibration is relieved and the pump is operated smoothly. In this paper, the trouble solution shooting method of secondary cooling pump is described including the reason of high vibration

  • A new foil bearing, ViscoElastic Foil Bearing(VEFB) is suggested with the need for a high damping foil bearing. Sufficient damping capacity is a key technical hurdle to super-bending-critical operation as well as widespread use of foil bearings into turbomachinery. The super-bending-critical operation of the conventional bump foil bearing and the VEFB is examined, as well as the structural dynamic characteristics. The structural dynamic test results show that the equivalent viscous damping of the VEFB is much larger than that of the bump bearing, and that the structural dynamic stiffness of the VEFB is comparable or larger than that of the bump bearing. The results of super-bending-critical operation of the VEFB indicate that the enhanced structural damping of the viscoelastic foil dramatically reduces the vibration near the bending critical speed. With the help of increased damping resulting from the viscoelasticity, the suppression of the asynchronous orbit is possible beyond the bending critical speed.

  • The head-capacity corves for pumps developed by the pump manufacturer are based on tests of a single pump operating in a semi-infinite pool with no nearby walls or floors and with no stray currents. Hence, flow into the pump suction is symmetrical with no vortices or swirling. Pump station designers rely on these curves to define the operating conditions for the pump selected. However, various constraints such as size, cost, and limitations on storage time require walls, floors, and pump intakes to be close proximity to each other. From this background, the authors are carrying out a systematic study on the flow characteristics of intakes within a sump found in pump stations. Model pump intake basin is designed and PIV is adopted as a measuring tool to capture the instantaneous flow patterns. Special attention is paid to investigate the flow patterns near the free surface, side-wall, and back-wall due to different clearances from back-wall to vortical intake pipe. Moreover, the locations and patterns of the various types of vortices that were found in the examinations are discussed.

  • Recently so much attention has been focused on renewable energy and, since its sources to exploit are already almost saturated in the country, the practical alternative to this situation could be a micro-turbine which uses the low head and low flow. From a point of view of local micro-turbine design capacity and manufacturing technology, the problems such as the accumulation of technical skills, the expansion of related industries, the national policy expansion and the turbine efficiency to improve are still vulnerable and it's true that there are also negative views about the economic feasibility, the technicity and the operation management of the micro-turbine. However, if the improvement can be done in technology of low-head double regulation micro-turbine to generate more outputs and the operation management can be reliably realized, the micro-turbine will be re-evaluated as an appliable source of renewable energy, even the output is small, and by a paradigm shift, it could realize a power generation as an economic and rational system.

  • Because the mixing efficiency is influenced remarkably by varying the geometrical configurations, the study of flow characteristics inside the mechanical agitator is very important to improve the performances. The draught tube in the agitator makes intermixing between the screw and tube by interrupting radial flow, and it makes circulation region in a mixing chamber. In general, the helical screw agitator with a draught tube (HSA) is proved more efficient to mix than the others. Consequently, such as the shapes of helical screw, number of pitches and the variation of angular velocity are the main parameters for improving the capacity of HSA. And also the suspension of the solid particles in the agitator can be determined these parameters. The rate of solids suspension in the mixing chamber was quantified with a statistical average value, of. Numerical analyses were carried out, using a commercial CFD code, Fluent, to obtain the velocity, pressure and particle distributions under steady, laminar flow and no-slip conditions. Results are graphically depicted with various parameters.
