In order to provide fundamental data for developing greenhouse gas emission factor, we investigated power plants in Korea using B-C oil as Energy source. The power plant is a major source of greenhouse gases among the sectors of fossil fuel combustion, thus information of its emission factors is very essential to the establishment of control strategies for the greenhouse gas emissions. The caloric value of fuel was analyzed using calorimeter and the calorific value was 10,419 kcal/kg. The $CO_2$ concentration of flue gas and elemental analysis were conducted using GC-FID and elemental analyzer. The $CO_2$ emission factors from fuel analysis was 75,410 kg/TJ and that from $CO_2$ gas analysis was 94,265 kg/TJ. When compared with IPCC values, the emission factors by the fuel analysis was 2.5% lower, and that by $CO_2$ gas analysis was about 21.85% higher.
Under the Irradiation of the radiofrequency wave, the dipole materials vibrate as microwavic phase change. This causes friction between adjacent molecules and enables an unique charateristics of interior heating of the materials. When dipole gases are adsorbed inside of a solid radiofrequency wave absorber, the gases can be decomposed easily by the microwave energy. The decomposition of sour gases was successfully tested in this manner to develop a sour gas removal process from the combustion flue gas. The standard gas bearing NO and $SO_2$ was passed through and microwave was applied on the calcined char bed as the wave absorber and the gas adsorbent. It was found that more then 95% of NO and 70 % of $SO_2$ was decomposed to the environmentally clean elements during the passage through the 20 gram char bed under the microwave impingement. The surface area and the porosity of char increased because the oxygen radicals produced from decomposed gas attacked carbon in the char capillaries and formed $CO_2$. For a lower concentration of sour gas, general cases in the commercial combustion processes, almost complete decomposion is believed possible and this method is surely expected to be useful for the prevention of air pollutions.
In this study, Seochon Thermal Power Plant No.1 for anthracite coal was tested to find the proper operation range of limestone slurry pH in the absorber tower which can be operated continuously in compliance with the Air Quality Preservation Act and Seocheon Thermal Power Division's internal regulation, sulfur dioxide average emission regulation. When operating the sulfur dioxide concentration [ppm] in the combustion gas flowing into the desulfurization absorption tower at 370, 400, 460 and 550 ppm while the main operating elements such as the flow rate of the combustion gas were fixed, the proper slurry pH Were 4.4, 4.5, 4.8 and 5.1, respectively. Therefore, it is recommended to operate with the correlation equation, RpH=0.004×Cin+2.93 derived using sulfur dioxide and the appropriate slurry pH.

This study was investigated to determine the combustion characteristics, decomposition efficiency, and the flue gas concentrations after combustion in the high temperature reactor($1,250{\sim}1,400^{\circ}C$, 1 atm) for the liquid wastes(waste oil and waste solvent) generated from the industrial complex. The concentration of nitrogen oxide(NOx) is decreased and the synthetic gas is increased when the mass ratio of $O_2$/waste is about 1.53 because the reaction condition was changed to reduction state. And BTEXs(benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene) are decomposed more than 99.99%. If the highly concentrated liquid waste (waste oil and waste solvent) is treated under the operating conditions suggested by this study, our treatment method for the liquid waste was found to be proper because of the contaminants emission concentration is very low. In addition, the synthetic gas after combustion can be used as an alternative fuel.
The oxy-fuel combustion heating characteristics is investigated experimentally by measuring furnace and steel temperature variations for batch type furnace simulator with a specially designed low NOx oxy-fuel burner. Economics of using oxy-fuel combustion is confirmed and, the furnace and steel temperature variations for different heating conditions are compared to deduce optimal heating control pattern for energy savings and rapid uniform heating. High $CO_2$ concentration (> 80-90%), low NOx (< 40ppm) and CO (< 10ppm) are measured in the flue gas. Temperature differences (< $30^{circ}C$) inside the furnace and steel are reduced relatively by increasing the burner jet momentum.
The co-combustion of coal and three kinds of RDFs(Refuse Plastic Fuel) mixture has been experimented in a commercially operating CFB coal boiler respectively and the pollutant emissions such as SOx, NOx, TSP and dioxine were measured at the stack. The mixing ratio with coal was 7.5% RPF, 7.5% RDF and 10% SDF respectively. During co-combustion, dioxine emission level was very low and SOx, NOx and TSP were decreased comparing the single coal combustion. Emitting dioxine concentration was proportioned to the chlorine content of RDF. These RPF, SDF and RDF could be determined to be a good alternative fuel of general coal.

Plasma process has great possibilities to remove SOx, NOx simultaneously with high treatment efficiency and is expected to be suitable for small or middle plants. It was accomplished to evaluate SO2, NOx control possibility and achieve basic data to control pollutants by use of Surface Discharge Induced Plasma Chemical Process (SPCP) in this study. O3 generation characteristics by discharge of a plate was proportional to O2 concentration and power consumption and inversely proportional to temperature and humidity, In case of dry air, NOx was highly generated by N2 and O2 in air during the plasma discharge process but it was decreased considerably as H2O was added. SO2 removal efficiency was very high, and removal rate was 170,350 mEA at 30,50 watt respectively in flue gas which is usually contain HIO. NOx removal efficiency was about 57% at 40 watt power consumption with 7.5% humidity. It is estimated that H2O has an important role in reaction mechanism with pollutants according to plasma discharge.

In this paper, experiments were carried out to study the decrease of NOx in simulated flue gases (initial concentration of NO 1000, 750, 400 ppm, : $N_2$ balance gas). Characteristics of NOx reduction are measured and analysed in corona discharge of multi needles to plane electrode structure and magnetic field. The best characteristics of NO reduction is measured when electric and magnetic field were supplied to reactor, at same time. Consumption power applied electric and magnetic field were higher than that of discharge applied only electric field.
Carbon dioxide is estimated to be responsible for 60% of the global warming effect, and this percentage is tending upward. Studies on removal and fixation of $CO_2$ in the flue gas are recognized as one of the important roles of the future biotechnology. Photobiological systems have considerably higher photosynthetic efficiency than conventional biomass system. The experiment for the photosynthetic fixation of $CO_2$ and the biomass production was performed with various initial cell concentration in a tubular photobioreactor and a bubble column $CO_2$ contactor with a gas sparger of $CO_2$ -enriched air(0.03~20%). Synechocystis PCC 6803 could grow at 10~20% $CO_2$ content under pH control. The highest specific growth rate, 0.0258 $h^{-1}$ , was obtained at 5% $CO_2$-air mixture. The maximum cell production rate, 0.2784 g/L.day, was obtained when the initial cell concentration was 0.45 g/L at 5% $CO_2$ -air mixture. The maximum cell concentration was 2.03 g/L in the tubular photobioreactor when the light intensity was $45.5{\mu}$$E/m^2$ . s. This system showed 0.482 g $CO_2$ /L . day of the $CO_2$ fixation.

[$CO_2$] is a well-known greenhouse gas, which is the major source of global warming. Many researchers have studied to reduce $CO_2$ emission in combustion processes. The central method of low $CO_2$ emission is Oxygen/CxHy combustion. Theoretically Oxygen/CxHy combustion only produces $CO_2\;and\;H_2O$ and allows convenient recovery of $CO_2$. The combustion characteristics, flame stability, composition in the flame zone and temperature profile were studied experimentally for various compositions of oxidant by substituting $CO_2\;for\;N_2$ with the constant $O_2$ concentration. Results showed that flame became unstable due to the high heat capacity, low transport rate and strong radiation effect of $CO_2$ in comparison with those of $N_2$. The reaction zone was quenched and broadened, as the ratio of $CO_2\;to\;N_2$ was increased. The emission of NOx in flue gas decreased due to the decreased temperature of the reaction zone. As the conversion ratio of $CO_2\;to\;N_2$ was increased, the emission of CO and the higher temperature zone increased due to decrease of reaction rate by the a quenching effect.
