The Characteristics of Structural Charge in Knowledge Network of Korean Manufacturing (한국 제조업의 지식 네트워크의 구조적 변화의 특성)

  • This paper analyzes the characteristics of technological knowledge flow-structure of Korean manufacturing in dynamic perspective. In doing that, the concept of the knowledge network is introduced which is defined as a set of industries and their interaction(knowledge flow) or linkage. The analysis of the inter-industrial knowledge flows is based on the technological similarity by using R&D researchers'academic background in the year of 1984, 1987, 1990. The analysis is carried out by such methodology as network analysis, indicator analysis and simple statistical analysis. And the final results are drawn both in absolute terms(dimension effect) and in relative terms (proportion effect) respectively. The main findings are as follow. First, the Korean manufacturing knowledge network appears to strengthen existing inter-industrial knowledge linkages rather than to construct new linkages. Second, the network seems to form a dualistic structure in that some high-technology sectors (knowledge production sectors) emerge along with traditional sectors (knowledge absorbing sectors). Third, since the mid-1980s, an inter-industrial fusion is witnessed among technologically intensive sectors, indicating that some sophisticated innovation modes are emerging in Korean manufacturing system.

  • A particle method recognized as one of gridless methods has been developed to investigate the nonlinear free-surface motions interacting to the structures. The method is more feasible and effective than convectional grid methods in order to solve the flow field with complicated boundary shapes. In the present study, breaking waves with a floating body are simulated to investigate fluid-structure interactions in the coastal zone.

  • A computational study of vortex-induced transverse vibrations of a cylinder with low mass-damping is presented. An Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) formulation of the Unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations (URANS), along with the Spalart-Allmaras (SA) one-equation turbulence model, are coupled conservatively with rigid body motion equations of the cylinder mounted on elastic supports in order to study the amplitude and frequency response of a freely vibrating cylinder, its flow-induced motion, Vortex Street, near-wake flow structure, and unsteady loading in a moderate range of Reynolds numbers. The time accurate response of the cylinder from rest to its limit cycle is studied to explore the effects of Reynolds number on the start of large displacements, motion amplitude, and frequency. The computational results are compared with published physical experiments and numerical studies. The maximum amplitudes of displacements computed for various Reynolds numbers are smaller than the experimental values; however, the overall agreement of the results is quite satisfactory, and the upper branch of the limit-cycle displacement amplitude vs. reduced velocity response is captured, a feature that was missed by other studies. Vortex shedding modes, lock-in phenomena, frequency response, and phase angles are also in agreement with experiments.

  • The numerical experiment has been conducted to investigate the unsteady shock wave reflecting phenomena. The cell-vertex finite-volume, Roe's upwind flux difference splitting method with unstructured grid is implemented to solve unsteady Euler equations. The $4^{th}$-order Runge-Kutta method is applied for time integration. A linear reconstruction of the flux vector using the least-square method is applied to obtain the $2^{nd}$-order accuracy for the spatial derivatives. For a better resolution of the shock wave and slipline, the dynamic grid adaptation technique is adopted. The new concept of grid adaptation technique, which is much simpler than that of conventional techniques, is introduced for the current study. Three error indicators (divergence and curl of velocity, and gradient of density) are used for the grid adaptation procedure. Considering the quality of the solution and the numerical efficiency, the grid adaptation procedure was updated up to $2^{nd}$ level at every 20 time steps. For the convenience of comparison with other experimental and analytical results, the case of interaction between the straight incoming shock wave and a sharp wedge is simulated for various flow conditions. The numerical results show good agreement with other experimental and analytical results, in the shock wave reflecting structure, slipline, and the trajectory of the triple points. Some critical cases show disagreement with the analytical results, but these cases also have been proven to show hysteresis phenomena.

  • The numerical simulation of wave slamming on a 3D platform deck was investigated using a coupled Level-Set and Volume-of-Fluid (CLSVOF) method for overset grid system incorporated into the Finite-Analytic Navier-Stokes (FANS) method. The predicted slamming impact forces were compared with the corresponding experimental data. The comparisons showed that the CLSVOF method is capable of accurately predicting the slamming impact and capturing the violent free surface flow including wave slamming, wave inundation and wave recession. Moreover, the capability of the present CLSVOF method for overset grid system is a prominent feature to handle the prediction of wave slamming on offshore structure.

  • The need of progress in engineering designs especially for aerospace structure is nowadays becoming a major industry request. The objectives of this work are to quantify the influence of material and operational uncertainties on the performance of the aerodynamic behavior of an Aircraft Wing, and to give a description of the most commonly used methods for reliability based design optimization (RBDO) to point out the advantages of the application of this method in the design process. A new method is proposed, called Safest Point (SP) that can efficiently give the reliability-based optimum solution for freely vibrating structures with and without fluid flow.

  • As a basic study on the fluid-structure interaction of the shell structure, a theoretical formulation has been suggested on the free vibration of a thin-walled conical frustum shell filled with an ideal fluid, where the shell is assumed to be fixed at both ends. The motion of fluid coupled with the shell is determined by means of the velocity potential flow theory. In order to calculate the normalized natural frequencies that represent the fluid effect on a fluid-coupled system, finite element analyses for a fluid-filled conical frustum shell are carried out. Also, the effect of apex angle on the frequencies is investigated.

  • 케이블 교량에서 발생하는 사장케이블의 진동현상에 대한 현상학적 특성을 명확히 이해해야, 사장케이블의 적합한 제진설계가 가능하다. 본 연구에서는 유체의 흐름과 구조물의 진동을 동적으로 연계하여 해석하기 위하여, ADINA의 CFD 및 Structure 코드를 동적으로 연계하는 FSI(Fluid Flow with Structure Interaction) 기법을 이용하였다. 바람으로 인해 이중원형실린더의 풍상측과 풍하측 실린더에서는 와류가 방출되면서 외력이 작용하게 되며, 이러한 공기력은 풍하측 실린더의 고유진동 운동과 함께 와류진동현상을 유발한다. 본 연구에서는 풍하측 실린더의 와류진동 현상의 해석에 주안점을 두었다. 본 연구에서는 흐름의 레이놀즈수와 이중원형실린더에 대한 바람의 입사각을 변화시키며 풍하측 실린더에서 발생하는 와류진동의 크기를 분석하였다. 본 연구결과, 유입풍속 및 바람의 입사각에 따라 이중원형실린더에서 발생하는 일반적인 와류방출현상과 풍하측 실린더에 작용하는 공기력 및 변위양상을 예측할 수 있었다. 특히, 바람의 입사각이 $15^{\circ}$인 경우에는 풍하측 실린더에서 방출되는 와류로 인해 풍하측 실린더에는 비대칭의 공기력이 작용하며, 이는 풍하측 실린더가 2사분면에서 4사분면 방향으로 진동하는 원인이 되는 것으로 판단된다.

Numerical Study of Ablation Phenomena of Flame Deflector

  • A flame deflector prevents a launch system from thermal damage by deflecting the exhaust flame of the launch vehicle. During the deflection of the flame, the flame deflector is subjected to a high-temperature and high-pressure flow, which results in thermal ablation damage at the surface. Predicting this ablation damage is an essential requirement to ensure a reliable design. This paper introduces a numerical method for predicting the ablation damage phenomena based on a one-way fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analysis. In the proposed procedure, the temperature and convective heat transfer coefficient of the exhaust flame are calculated using a fluid dynamics analysis, and then the ablation is calculated using a finite element analysis (FEA) based on the user-subroutine UMESHMOTION and Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) adaptive mesh technique in ABAQUS. The result of such an analysis was verified by comparison to the ablation test result for a flame deflector.
