Microgrid usually consists of a cluster of distributed generators(DGs), energy storage systems and loads, and can operate in the grid-connected mode and the islanded mode. This paper presents detailed descriptions of two different options for controlling the active power of DGs in the microgrid. One is regulating the power injected by the unit to a desired amount(Unit output power control) and the other is to regulate the flow of active power in the feeder where the unit is installed to a constant(Feeder flow control). Frequency-droop characteristics are used to achieve good active power sharing when the microgrid operates in the islanded mode. The change in the frequency and the active power output of DGs are investigated according to the control mode and the configuration of DGs when the microgrid is disconnected from the main grid. From the analysis, this paper proposes a method to determine the droop constant of DGs operating in the feeder flow control mode. Simulation results using the PSCAD/EMTDC are presented to validate the approach, which shows good performance as opposed to the conventional one.

In order to investigate transient behaviour of the CRW(Canard Rotor Wing) type UAV(Uninhabited Aerial Vehicle) propulsion system during flight mode transition considering flow control valve operation, the propulsion system was modelled using SIMULINK commercial program. For transient simulation of the main engine system, the ICV(Inter-Component Volume) method was applied. The valve system is to control the gas flow of the rotary duct system and the main duct system, and the analysis was performed with an assumption that the total gas mass flow of the main engine is the same as summation of the rotary duct flow and the main duct flow, and with consideration of valve loss, flow rate and effective area in valve angle variation. The performance analysis was carried out during flight mode transitions from the rotary flight mode to the fixed wing flight mode and vice versa mode at altitude of 1Km, flight Mach number 0.1 and maximum engine rpm.

Because of the limitation of controllable operation variables for the wastewater treatment process with variable hydrodynamic flow patterns, it may preclude the use of this type of nutrient removal activated sludge process. As the operation variables, only temperature and dissolved oxygen (DO) have been used to operate the process. This study made an effort to improve treatment efficiency and operability of the process by the following methodologies: 1) process and operation data analysis using process simulation, 2) determination of optimal control logic or algorithm using a pilot-scaled experimental apparatus and its operations, and 3) application of experimental and simulation results to find the optimal process operation modes. In this study, it was found that the optimal operation mode named 'save mode' in the basis of process variables, such as the ammonia-nitrogen concentration of inlet flow, temperature and flow rate, can reduce the operation cost comparing with the present normal operation mode. And the stable conditions in nitrification were also shown by the proportional control of DO with the inlet air flow rate of blower and the mixing rate of mechanical aeration.
Split-flow thin cell (SPLITT) fractionation (SF) is a rapid separation technique capable of separating colloidal particles or macromolecules into two or more fractions. SF allows fractionations in a preparative scale as sample is fed continuously. Generally SF uses a thin ribbon-like channel equipped with two flow stream splitters at the inlet and outlet of the channel. Thus there exist two flow inlets and two flow outlets at the top and bottom of the inlet and outlet of the channel, respectively. There are two operating modes in SF, conventional mode and full-feed mode (FFD). Although the resolution in the FFD mode is lower than that in the conventional mode, FFD mode has some merits. The design of the channel and operation are simpler in the FFD mode, as it does not require the feeding of the solvent. Thus there is no flow stream splitter at the channel inlet, and only one pump is needed, unlike the conventional mode, where two pumps are required for the feedings of the sample and the solvent separately. Also the sample is not diluted in the FFD mode as there is no solvent feeding, which is important for fractionation samples with low colloidal concentrations such as environmental samples. For some of environmental samples, pre-concentration is often required. In this study, a new large-scale splitter-less FFD-SF channel was implemented, where there is no splitter at the outlet as well as at the inlet of the channel. It was possible to build the channel in a much larger dimension than conventional ones, allowing much higher sample throughput (TP). The new channel was tested and optimized with polyurethane (PU) latex beads, and then applied to large-scale separation of Polyacrylate (PA).
This study was attempted to develop the electronic-hydraulic hitch control system for position control of tractor plow and investigate the control performance of the system through experiments. Experiments were carried out to investigate the responses of the system to the step and sinusoidal inputs in position control. The effects of control mode, hydraulic flow rate, reference deadband, and proportional constant on control performance of the system were investigated. The following conclusions were derived from the study; 1. For the position control system operated on on-off control mode, positions of implement were controlled within ${\pm}0.73^{\circ}{\sim}{\pm}1.46^{\circ}$ in rockshaft angle to the reference position when the hydraulic flow rates were 5~15 l/min. For the position control system operated on PWM control mode, positions of implement were controlled within ${\pm}0.73^{\circ}$ to the reference position regardless of hydraulic flow rates. It means that the implement could be positioned more accurately to the reference position on PWM control mode than on on-off control mode. 2. As results of the frequency responses of the position control systems, no clear difference in control performance between on-off control and PWM control modes was found. As the hydraulic flow rates increased, the corner frequencies of amplitude attenuation and phase-angle change increased. It means that the control performance of the system could be improved as the hydraulic flow rate increases.

Phase resonance in Francis type hydraulic turbine is studied. The phase resonance is a phenomenon that the pressure fluctuation in the penstock of hydraulic turbine installation can become very large when the pressure waves from each guide vane caused by the interaction with the runner vane reach the penstock with the same phase. Experimental and numerical studies have been carried out using a centrifugal fan. In the present study, comparisons between the pump mode and the turbine mode operations are made. The experimental and numerical results show that the rotational direction of the rotor does not affect characteristics of the pressure fluctuation but the propagation direction of the rotorstator interaction mode plays an important role. Flow rate fluctuations through the stator are examined numerically. It has been found that the blade passing flow rate fluctuation component can be evaluated by the difference of the fluctuating pressure at the inlet and the outlet of the stator. The amplitude of the blade passage component of the pressure fluctuation is greater at the stator inlet than the one at the stator outlet. The rotor-stator interaction mode component is almost identical at the inlet and the outlet of the stator. It was demonstrated that the pressure fluctuation in the volute and connecting pipe normalized by the flow rate fluctuation becomes the same for pump and turbine mode operations, and depends on the rotational direction on the interaction mode.

This study was performed to evaluate the effects of air flow rate and aeration mode on the treatment of bioventing for diesel-contaminated soil. Initial concentrations of diesel-contaminated soils were about 2,500 and 9,000mg/kg. Air flow rates were 30, 60, and 100mL/min, and air was injected in the continuous and the intermittent modes. TPH removal efficiency of intermittent aeration mode was higher than that of continuous aeration mode. Greater air flow rate than the value of guidance book was needed for bioventing.

The objective of this study is to clarify the occurrence of the high-speed mode of unsteady swirling flows in straight tubes. The unsteady flows generated in the tube were measured by means of a semiconductor-type pressure transducer and an FFT analyzer. The high-speed mode measured has rotational speed which is approximately equal to or higher than the peripheral velocity of the swirling flow. The unsteady flow is due to cell rotation in the circumferential direction of the tube. The occurrence of the high-speed mode was confirmed, and the characteristics (rotational speed, pressure amplitude, and phase) of this mode were clarified. In order to understand the measured unsteady flows, the three dimensional vortex core profiles were discussed based on the distributions of the pressure amplitude and phase.

The pseudospectral method for stability analysis was used to find the most influential disturbance mode for transition of plane channel flows and Blasius flow at their critical Reynolds numbers. A number of various oblique disturbance waves were investigated for their pseudospectra and resolvent norm contours in each flow, and an exhaustive search method was employed to find the disturbing waves to which the flows become most unstable. In plane Poiseuille flow an oblique disturbance with a wavelength of 3.59h (where h is the half channel width) at an angle $28.7^{\circ}$ was found to be the most influential for the flow transition to turbulence, and in plane Couette flow it is an oblique wave with a wavelength of 3.49h at an angle of $19.4^{\circ}$. But in Blasius flow it was found that the most influential mode is a normal wave with a wavelength of $3.44{\delta}_{999}$. These results imply that the most influential disturbance mode is closely related to the fundamental acoustic wave with a certain shear sheltering in the respective flow geometry.
