Recently the repair of damaged reinforced concrete members by the external bonding of fiber-reinforced polymer laminates has received considerable attention. This paper investigates the flexural behaviors of beam strengthened with Aramid fiber sheets(AFS), and attempts to evaluate the flexural strength of such RC beams by the use of nonlinear flexural analysis because the application of the KCI strength method to strengthened beam is somewhat limited and the failure strain of AFS is overestimated in particular cases.
Dynamic behavior of flexural-torsional coupled vibration of rotating beams using the Rayleigh-Ritz method with orthogonal polynomials as basis functions is studied. Performance of various orthogonal polynomials is compared to each other in terms of their efficiency and accuracy in determining the required natural frequencies. Orthogonal polynomials and functions studied in the present work are: Legendre, Chebyshev, integrated Legendre, modified Duncan polynomials, the special trigonometric functions used in conjunction with Hermite cubics, and beam characteristic orthogonal polynomials. A total of 5 cases of beam boundary conditions and rotation are studied for their natural frequencies. The obtained natural frequencies and mode shapes are compared to those available in various references and the results for coupled flexural-torsional vibrations are especially compared to both previously available references and with those obtained using NASTRAN finite element package. Among all the examined orthogonal functions, Legendre orthogonal polynomials are the most efficient in overall CPU time, mainly because of ease in performing the integration required for determining the stiffness and mass matrices.

Many research have been carried out concerned with the flexural performance of FRP composite in a various ways. Most of them, however, have used a small-scale specimen, so haven't been fully verified by full-scale model test. In this study, a full-scale RC beam model test for flexural strengthening with CFRP composites has been performed in order to verify test results obtained through a series of small-scale model test with respect to FRP stiffness affecting strengthening performance in the previous studies. A total of 4 specimens have been manufactured including control beam. The specimens strengthened with CFRP composites consist of 3 different CFRP stiffness with 2 types of CFRP composite. Consequently, the purpose of this study is to estimate influence of the size effect of specimens and FRP stiffness on the flexural performance. As a result, the effective strain of FRP composite is inversely proportional to FRP stiffness and ensures the same performance with small-scale model test.
For the recycling of the resources and the preservation of the environment, this study's purpose is to measure flexural behavior of the reinforced concrete beams with the major variables like concrete strength, replacement ratio of the recycled aggregate and the waste foundry sand and the tension reinforcement ratio and to present the data of the recycled aggregate used for the structure design. The experiment on the flexural behavior resulted in the followings. The ultimate strength of recycled R/C beam was manipulated proportionate to the tension reinforcement ratio, however the strength instantly decreased after passing the ultimate load due to the destroyed concrete of the compression side. The deflection at the maximum load varied from the tension reinforcement ratio by 5.5 times. The test specimen with the tension reinforcement ratio less than $0.5{\rho}b$ showed constant curve without change in the load from the yield to the ultimate load in contrast to the distinctive plastic region where the displacement was rising. Although the strain of main tension steel with the reinforcement ratio indicate different, the design of recycled concrete member can be applied for current design code for reinforced concrete structure as the ratio of tension reinforcement district the under the reinforcement ration in a balanced strain condition.
This paper presents the results of an experimental study on the structural performance of an innovative GFRP-concrete composite beam construction, which is reinforced with longitudinal GFRP pultruded box-profile and transverse steel stirrups. GFRP perfobond (PBL) shear connectors are employed to enhance the bonding performance between the GFRP profile and the concrete portion. To investigate the shear and flexural performance of this composite system, eight specimens were designed and tested under three-point and four-point bending. The main variables were the height of the composite beam and the shear span-to-depth ratio. The test results indicated that bonding cracks did not occur at the interface between the GFRP profile and the concrete until the final stage of the test. This shows that the specimens performed well as composite beams during the test and that the GFRP PBL connectors were reliable. Based on the test results, two calculation methods were used to determine the flexural and shear capacity of the composite beams. A comparative study of the test and theoretical results suggests that the proposed methods can reasonably predict both the flexural and shear capacities of the specimens, whereas the provisions of ACI 440 are relatively conservative on both counts.
Experimental studies on the behaviors of box-shape steel reinforced concrete (SRC) composite beams were conducted. Seven 1:3 scale model composite beams were tested to failure. Each of the beams was simply supported at the ends and two concentrated loads were applied at the one-third span and two-thirds span respectively. Experimental results indicate that the flexural strength can be enhanced when the ratio of flexural reinforcements and flange thickness of the shape steel are increased; the shear strength is enhanced with increase of web thickness of the shape steel. Insignificant effects of concrete in the box-shape steel are found on improving the flexural strength and shear strength of the box-shape SRC composite beams, thus concrete inside the box-shape steel can be saved, and the weight of the SRC beams can be decreased. Shear studs can strengthen the connection and co-work effects between the shape steel and the concrete and enhance the shear strength, but stud design for the composite beams should be further improved. Formulas for flexural and shear strength of the composite beams are proposed, and the calculated results are in good agreement with the experimental results. In general, the box-shape SRC composite beam is a kind of ductile member, and suitable for extensive engineering application.
To investigate the influence of cross section geometries on the behavior of composite beams in the case of small span to depth ratio and deep beams. the static flexural behavior of composite I-beams and Box- beams was evaluated. 12 types of composite I -beams composed of LVL flanges and particleboard or plywood web and 3 types of composite Box-beams composed of LVL flanges and plywood web were tested under one-point loading. The load-deflection curves were almost linear to failure, therefore, the behavior of tested composite beams was elastic. The theoretical flexural rigidity of composite beams was calculated and compared with observed flexural rigidity. The highest value was found in I-W type beams and the lowest value was found in G-P type beams. The difference between theoretical and observed flexural rigidity was small. Theoretical total deflection of tested composite beams was calculated using flexural rigidity and compared with actual deflection. Shear deflection of these beams was evaluated by the approximation method, solid crosss section method and elementary method. The difference between actual deflection and expected deflection was not found in D, E and F type beams. This defference was small in G, H and I type beams or Box-beam.

A convenient method for enhancing the strength and stiffness of existing reinforced concrete beams is to bond adhesively steel plates to their tension faces. However, there is a limit to the applicability of tension face plating as the tension face plates are prone to premature debonding and, furthermore, the addition of the plate reduces the ductility of the beam. An alternative approach to tension face plating is to bond adhesively steel plates to the sides of reinforced concrete beams, as side plates are less prone to debonding and can allow the beam to remain ductile. Debonding at the ends of the side plates due to flexural forces, that is flexural peeling, is studied in this paper. A fundamental mathematical model for flexural peeling is developed, which is calibrated experimentally to produce design rules for preventing premature debonding of the plate-ends due to flexural forces. In the companion paper, the effect of shear forces on flexural peeling is quantified to produce design rules that are applied to the strengthening and stiffening of continuous reinforced concrete beams.

Reinforced concrete (RC) infrastructures often require strengthening due to error in design, degradation of materials properties after prolong utilization and increases load carrying capacity persuaded by new use of the structures. For this purpose, a newly proposed Side Near Surface Mounted (SNSM) composite technique was used for flexural strengthening of RC beam specimens. Analytical and non-linear finite element modeling (FEM) using ABAQUS were performed to predict the flexural performance of RC specimens strengthened with S-NSM using steel bars as a strengthening reinforcement. RC beams with various SNSM reinforcement ratios were tested for flexural performance using four-point bending under monotonic loading condition. Results showed significantly increase the yield and ultimate strengths up to 140% and 144% respectively and improved failure modes. The flexural response, such as failure load, mode of failure, yield load, ultimate load, deflection, strain, cracks characteristic and ductility of the beams were compared with those predicted results. The strengthened RC beam specimens showed good agreement of predicted flexural behavior with the experimental outcomes.
An unbraced cantilever beam subjected to loads which cause bending about the major axis may buckle in a flexuraltorsional mode by deflecting laterally and twisting. For the efficient design of these structures, design engineers require a simple accurate equation for the elastic flexural-torsional buckling load. Existing solutions for the flexural-torsional buckling of cantilever beams have mainly been derived by numerical methods which are tedious to implement. In this research, an attempt is made to derive a theoretical equation by the energy method using different buckled shapes. However, the results of a finite element flexural-torsional buckling analysis reveal that the buckled shapes for the lateral deflection and twist rotation are different for cantilever beams. In particular, the buckled shape for the twist rotation also varies with the section size. In light of these findings, the finite element flexural-torsional buckling analysis was then used to derive simple accurate equations for the elastic buckling load and moment for cantilever beams subjected to end point load, uniformly distributed load and end moment. The results are compared with previous research and it was found that the equations derived in this study are accurate and simple to use.
