Tip position control of a flexible cantilever is difficult due to the non-minimum phase dynamics that result from the finite propagating speed of a mechanical wave along the cantilever. In this paper, we propose a method for the tip position control using a light and cheap accelerometer that does not bring any significant change to the dynamics of the cantilever system. The linear system identification model of the flexible cantilever is obtained with measurements by a laser displacement sensor. A Kalman estimator is designed with this model and calculates the estimated tip position with the acceleration data of the accelerometer that is attached on the tip of the cantilever. To verify reliability of the estimator, the estimated tip position is used to the feedback control system that uses a fuzzy logic controller. The control results are compared with those of the fuzzy control system where the real tip position is measured by a laser displacement sensor. Also, the performance of the estimator with the accelerometer is presented and discussed.
Multibody system dynamics is based on classical mechanics and its engineering applications originating from mechanisms, gyroscopes, satellites and robots to biomechanics. Multibody system dynamics is characterized by algorithms or formalisms, respectively, ready for computer implementation. As a result simulation and animation are most convenient. Recent developments in multibody dynamics are identified as elastic or flexible systems, respectively, contact and impact problems, and actively controlled systems. Based on the history and recent activities in multibody dynamics, recursive algorithms are introduced and methods for dynamical analysis are presented. Linear and nonlinear engineering systems are analyzed by matrix methods, nonlinear dynamics approaches and simulation techniques. Applications are shown from low frequency vehicles dynamics including comfort and safety requirements to high frequency structural vibrations generating noise and sound, and from controlled limit cycles of mechanisms to periodic nonlinear oscillations of biped walkers. The fields of application are steadily increasing, in particular as multibody dynamics is considered as the basis of mechatronics.
In this paper, a new sensorless vibration control scheme is proposed for a flexible manipulator system. A robust sliding mode controller incorporating with a ‘reaction moment observer’ used for the estimation of the reaction moment reciprocally acting on flexible arm and hub inertia is introduced to achieve desired control target. The rigid body dynamics of the single-link flexible manipulator is simply considered in the design of the sliding mode controller. Then, the reaction moment is estimated by the proposed reaction moment observer to suppress the residual vibration of the flexible arm. The performance of the proposed control scheme is verified by computer simulation and experiment.
In order to not only perform as a extreme model under the severe operating condition but also acquire more diverse and advanced control capability utilizing high compliance, active vibration control of a flexible 2-link robot manipulator are investigated. Multi variable-structured frequency shaped optimal sliding mode is proposed for the flexible robot manipulator like control system, whose control variables, an angular motion of joint and vibration of flexible link, have to be controlled simultaneously by one control torque at a driving joint. The control system is divided into two subsystems, a control input related subsystem and an added subsystem. The proposed sliding mode, composed of multi control variables, makes optimized relation between subsystems and a individual control input, thus, the sliding mode controller can compensate whole dynamics of each subsystems simultaneously. And the possibility and effectiveness are verified by vibration control of a manipulator having two flexible links. Simulation and experiment results show that the proposed control scheme achieves the purpose effectively.

Using flexible multibody system dynamic method, the rigid-flexible coupling multibody dynamic analysis model of the drum brake system was developed, and the kinematic and dynamic simulation of the system was processed as its object of study. Simulations show that the friction will increase with the dynamic friction coefficient, but high dynamic friction coefficient will cause the abnormal vibration and worsen the stability of the brake system, even the stability of the whole automobile. The modeling of flexible multi-body can effectively analyze and solve complex three-dimensional dynamic subjects of brake system and evaluate brake capability. Further research and study on this basis will result in a convenient and effective solution that can be much helpful to study, design and development of the brake system.
In multibody dynamics, differential and algebraic equations which can satisfy both equation of motion and kinematic constraint equation should be solved. To solve these equations, coordinate partitioning method and constraint stabilization method are commonly used. In the coordinate partitioning method, the coordinates are divided into independent and dependent and coordinates. The most typical coordinate partitioning method are LU decomposition, QR decomposition, and SVD (singular value decomposition). The objective of this research is to find an efficient coordinate partitioning method in the dynamic analysis of flexible multibody systems. Comparing two coordinate partitioning methods, i.e. LU and QR decomposition in the flexible multibody systems, a new hybrid coordinate partitioning method is suggested for the flexible multibody analysis.
Dynamic analysis of a three-axle heavy truck is carried out with rigid body model and flexible body model. To see the effects of chassis flexibility, the chassis is modeled as flexible body. The mass matrix, stiffness matrix, and vibration normal modes of the chassis are obtained by a finite element analysis program, and four vibration normal modes are used in the flexible body model. The vehicle model consisting of a frame, a cab, suspensions, an engine, a deck, a seat, and tires, has total 77 degrees of freedom. The result shows that the peaked acceleration in the flexible model is lower than that of the rigid body model.
Many of today´s robot are required to perform tasks which demand a high level of accuracy in end-effector positioning. Those rigid robots are very inefficient and slow because its have large and heavy links, In an attempt to solve these problems, a robots using flexible beam were created. But the single-link flexible beam is infinite-dimensional system. Many researchers have proposed controlling such a beam an approximated model consisting of a finite a number of models. In this paper, we start by deriving the analytic model for the dynamics of general single-link beam, and a controller is designed for flexible beam with integral type servo system bases of the linear matrix inequality (LM) technique. To the end, simulation results show that a designed controller guarantees affective vibration control the single-link flexible beam.
Many mechanical systems are over-constrained if only rigid bodies are used to model the system. One example of such system is a satellite system with solar panels. To avoid this over-constrained problem, solar panels can be modeled as flexible bodies. The CMS(Component Mode Synthesis) method is widely used to analyze the flexible multi-body system because it can considerably approximate the deformation of the flexible bodies using small number of well-selected mode. However, it is very difficult to decide the boundary condition and the selection of modes. In this paper, the methods for mode synthesis and setting the boundary condition are presented to analyze the flexible multi-body system with over-constraints. Finally, the reliability of proposed method is verified by solar panel's deployment test.
