Multiple Objective Scheduling of Flexible Manufacturing Systems Using Petri Nets (페트리네트를 이용한 유연생산시스템의 다중목표 스케쥴링)

  • This paper presents an approach to multiple objective scheduling of flexible manufacturing systems(FMS). The approach is an extension of the scheduling method that formulates scheduling problems using Petrinets, and applies heuristic search to find optimal or near-optimal schedules with a single objective. New evaluation functions are developed to optimize simultaneously the makespan and the total operating cost. A scheduling example is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

  • This paper discusses the analysis of flexible manufacturing systmes design using computer simulation method. The simulation language employed is SIMAN which is a powerful tool to model flexible manufacturing systems. The important characteristics of FMS, its design and operational problems, and structures based on the number of NC machine tools and their layout are discussed for the appli- cations of FMS to manufacturing. A new algorithm for forming part families and machine groups has been proposed and its software is also developed. Simulation procedure using SIMAN for analysis of FMS designs is discussed and two design problems are analyzed and evaluated to illustrate systemstic procedure for analysis of FMS.

  • Recent trends in the flexible manufacturing systems are morphing cell control for the shop-wide production operation system and providing the integrated operation and execution system together with vendor-specific FMC/FMS platform. In these requirements, the shop-floor level operation system plays a role of coordinating the control activity of each cell, and has to provide flexibility for the complexity of mixed operations of various cells. This paper suggests a system architecture for the mixed environments of multi-cells and job shop, its corresponding enabling technologies based on comparative studies with other related studies and commercialized systems. This approach includes a process definition model considering the integration with upper BOM-BOP and external service modules, and reconfigurable device-level interface which provides dynamic interconnections with machine tools and cell controllers. The function modules and their implementation results are also described to provide the feasibility of the proposed approaches as the flexible shop-floor operation system for the multi-cell environments.

  • To apply the queueing network theory in evaluating performances of flexible manufacturing systems, it is generally assumed that the processing times are distributed exponentially. However, in FMS, processing times are usually deterministic. In this study the performance measures of FMS are approximated under the assumption that processing times are usually deterministic. Multi-classes of parts and single server and multi-server stations are considered in the model. This study also that, in the numerical example, this approach yields better solutions than those obtained by the pure Linearizer algorithm, when the processing times are deterministic.

  • Scheduling problem in Flexible Manufacturing Systems(FMS) is complex because of various situation of Manufacturing Systems. Especially, in case of short-term scheduling demanding high efficiency, low cost at short-period, efficient scheduling is a serious problem. To solve this problem, many dispatching rules are developed. But, it leave much to be desired, because real situation in shop floor is complex and real-time scheduling is needed in real manufacturing shop floor. In this paper, search algorithm that allocate different dispatching rules to each machine is presented to complement lack of dispatching rule and develop practical real-time scheduling system. The search algorithm is described in detail. First, algorithm detect machine breakdown, evaluate each dispatching rule. dispatching rules for each machine meeting performance criteria are ranked. The algorithm selects new dispatching nile for bottleneck machine. The effectivenes and efficiency of the mixed dispatching rule and search algorithm is demonstrated.

  • In this report, we have designed a Flexible Manufacturing System(FMS) for Engine-Cylinder block that is composed of maching center, special purpose machine, AGV(Automatic Guided Vehicle), using Micro-Computer and Programmable Controller(PC).   • In the automated manufacturing systems, the problem regarding how to make production activities flexible is even more important and critical than that regarding how to product large quantities, and the more flexible, if possible, the manufacturing system is, the more competitiveness and profitable factors it gets. This research, therefore, concentrated on establishing the flexibility and evaluating performance on the manufacturing system, operational flexibility is considered because of enabling the manufacturing system to get both the improvement of production rate and the adaptive ability of environment changes. For it, we used the analytical tool, GSPNs, which is a kind of timed Petri-Nets. GSPNs is competent enough to consider practical situations just like operation priorities, machine failure, randomness, concurrency and so on. Through the GSPNs analysis, it is confirmed that in the manufacturing system with operational flexibility is compatible with the traditional performances such as production rate or mean waiting time.

We address the problem of determining the optimal processing times of individual operations and routing mix in FMSs with multiple routes for each part type in order to minimize tool cost, subject to meeting a throughput constraint for each part type. The problem is formulated as a nonlinear program superimposed on a closed queueing network of the FMSs under consideration. Numerical examples reveal the potential of our approach for significant saving in tool costs.
