  • This paper gives the detail of the work carried out to develop real-time control software for Flexible Manufacturing Systems. A basic design philosophy to implement such software is proposed. The major features are the partitioning of complicated control actions into simplified ones, structured programming and multi-threaded transaction-based tasks. The software operates on the basis of passing task-to-task messages via mailboxes, causing appropriate actions to be taken by each task. Each task represents a separate subprocess so that the subprocesses can be run simultaneously. The task-to-task message could be easily replaced by computer-to-computer communication, using LAN, demonstrating that the software methods developed produce a flexible designs for control software of an FMS. A method of linking such software to simulation software is suggested as a potentially powerful additional design-tool.

  • The concepts of flexible displays and plastic electronics have become some of the most talked about new product opportunities for direct view flat panel displays in recent years. The potential advantages are frequently cited, but the achievement of commercially viable products will require many significant technological innovations in new materials and manufacturing technology. This paper will provide a very broad overview of the rationale for developing flexible displays, the market drivers, the applicable display technologies, the major hurdles that must be overcome and the required evolution of new manufacturing technologies that are essential for successful commercialization. This is intended to provide the outline and context for the series of presentations on specific aspects in each of these topics that will be delivered and discussed at the Plastic Electronics Special Session of the 2005 IMID conference.

신경망을 이용한 유연디스크 디버링가공 아크형상구간 인자예측에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Flexible Disk Deburring Process Arc Zone Parameter Prediction Using Neural Network)

  • Disk grinding was often applied to deburring process in order to enhance the final product quality. Inherent chamfering capability of the flexible disk grinding process in the early stage was analyzed with respect to various process parameters including workpiece length, wheel speed, depth of cut and feed. Initial chamfered edge defined as arc zone was characterized with local radius of curvature. Averaged radius and arc zone ratio was well evaluated using neural network system. Additional neural network analysis adding workpiece length showed enhance performance in predicting arc zone ratio and curvature radius with reduced error rate. A process condition design parameter was estimated using remaining input and output parameters with the prediction error rate lower than 2.0% depending on the relevant input parameter combination and neural network structure composition.

공작기계의 유연 다물체 동역학 및 제어기 연계해석 (Coupled Flexible Multi-Body Dynamics and Controller Analysis of Machine Tool)

  • In this study, advanced computational technique for mechatronic analysis has been developed for the efficient design and test of typical machine tool models. Flexible multi-body dynamic (FMBD) analysis method combined with motion controller including control logics is used to simulate typical operation conditions. The present FMBD machine tool model is composed of flexible column structure, rigid body spindle, vertical motion guide (arm) and screw elements. Driving motor clement with rotating degree-of-freedom is interconnected and governed by the designed Matlab Simulink control logic, and then the position of the spindle is feedback into the control logic. It is practically shown from the results that the investigation of designed machine tools with controller can be effectively conducted and verified.

  • 유연 생산시스템의 스케줄링 문제는 생산시스템의 효율성 제고에 많은 관심을 끌고 있다. 이 연구에서는 유연 생산시스템의 이산적 스케줄링 문제를 변형의 개념을 가지고 해결하고자 한다. 이산적 개념을 표현하는 데는 패트리 네트가 효율적인 방법중의 하나이다. 패트리 네트의 변형이란 기존의 모델이 가지고 있는 기본적인 성질들을 변형시키지 아니하고 해석하고 분석하기가 편리한 사이즈로 기존의 모델링 변형시키는 것이다. 특히 본 연구에서는 타임 패트리 네트의 변형을 이용하여 대기시간과 완료시간을 혼합하여 스케줄링 문제를 분석하는 기법을 제시하였다.

  • The problems concerning FMC (Flexible manufacturing cell) system layout were treated in this paper. In fact, there being no clear definition about FMS (Flexible manufacturing system), it could be treated as the system adopting flexible-automation and FMS has been improving as a form of parts machining system. It was thought that the problems of combination of machine tool groups and parts family were important. Parts familly and machine tool groups were made up by means of multivariate analysis and the minimum trnsfer concept using correlation coefficient ($\rho$). And FMC system was layout by directional graph according to the FMS classifications.

항균 특성을 위한 나노구조 유연 필름의 제작 및 평가 (Fabrication and Assessment of Flexible Nanostructured Film for Antibacterial Properties)

  • In the field of medical and marine industries, antibacterial surfaces have been emerged as one of the most important issues. Recently, many researchers have been studying antibacterial surfaces to kill bacteria or prevent the adhesion of bacteria. In their researches, various materials and structures are suggested to inhibit the adhesion of bacteria or kill the attached bacteria. However, chemical materials such as antibiotics or metal could be toxic. Moreover, frequent use of antibiotics causes super bacteria having resistance to antibiotics. In this study, nano-pillar structured surface was fabricated using polyurethane acrylate (PUA) and the mechanically induced antibacterial function was confirmed based on the fabricated nanostructures. Nanostructures can damage the bacterial membrane of Gram-negative bacteria through stretching of bacterial membrane via interaction with the nanostructures and the bacterial membrane. Consequently, the proposed transparent, flexible and nanostructured PUA films can be one of promising candidates for antifouling and antibacterial surfaces which can be applied in various industries.

  • While the demand for robots in the manufacturing industry has dramatically increased, the industrial robots' functionality is mainly determined by the effector attached to the end of their arms. They need a flexible gripping system that can act as a human hand and easily grasp a variety of objects, which requires resilient sensors. This study clarifies the electrical output characteristics of elastic tactile sensors according to contact terminals because the output characteristics of the tactile sensors vary greatly, depending on the contact material and the method of contact with the conductive wire. Our research considers the Three Roll Mill and Paste Mixer as the dispersion medium, and a nickel- and gold-plated brass electrode as the contact terminal.

FMC 반송용 로봇의 선견형 운영방법 (Proactive Operational Method for the Transfer Robot of FMC)

  • 본 논문에서는 로봇 한 대를 중심으로 여러 설비들이 제어되는 Flexible Manufacturing Cell(FMC)에서 로봇의 대기위치 선정과 작업물 선택 의사결정을 위하여 Q-learning 알고리즘을 응용한 방법을 제시하였다. 이를 위해 하나의 로봇과 다수의 설비로 구성된 전형적인 가상의 FMC를 시뮬레이션으로 설계, 제안한 알고리즘을 적용하여 다른 대안과의 비교 분석을 실시하였다. 비교결과 적용된 알고리즘이 로봇가동률을 높여 평균 처리시간, 총 처리량 모두 향상시키는 결과를 가져왔다. 또한, 이 방법은 본 논문에서 제시한 정보뿐 아니라 그 우선순위와 가중치에 따라 다른 정보들을 손쉽게 추가하여 적용할 수 있으므로 FMC의 생산성 향상에도 크게 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

다품종 제품과 전용 대기공간을 고려한 다단계 베르누이 라인을 위한 성능 모델 (Performance Models of Multi-stage Bernoulli Lines with Multiple Product and Dedicated Buffers)

  • To meet rapidly changing market demands, manufacturers strive to increase both of productivity and diversity at the same time. As a part of those effort, they are applying flexible manufacturing systems that produce multiple types and/or options of products at a single production line. This paper studies such flexible manufacturing system with multiple types of products, multiple Bernoulli reliability machines and dedicated buffers between them for each of product types. As one of the prevalent control policies, priority based policy is applied at each machines to select the product to be processed. To analyze such system and its performance measures exactly, Markov chain models are applied. Because it is too complex to define all relative transient and its probabilities for each state, an algorithm to update transient state probability are introduced. Based on the steady state probability, some performance measures such as production rate, WIP-based measures, blocking probability and starvation probability are derived. Some system properties are also addressed. There is a property of non-conservation of flow, which means the product ratio at the input flow is not conserved at the succeeding flows. In addition, it is also found that increased buffer capacity does not guarantee improved production rate in this system.
