  • This paper presents the flexible MEMS transmitter based on flexible printed circuit board or FPCB, which can be transformed to arbitrary shape. The FPCB is suitable to fabricate light weight and small size modules with the help of its thin thickness. Moreover a module based on FPCB can be attached on the arbitrary curved surface due to its flexible enough to be lolled up like paper. In this paper, the flexible MEMS transmitter integrated on FPCB for a short-distance sensor network which is based on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) communication system is proposed. The active device of the proposed flexible MEMS transmitter is fabricated on InGaP/GaAs HBT process which has been used for power amplifier design to take advantages of high linear and high efficient characteristics. Moreover, the passive devices such as the filter and signal lines are integrated and fabricated on the FPCB board. The performance of the fabricated flexible MEMS transmitter is analyzed with EVM characteristics of the output signal.

  • This paper introduces a resistance scanning-type flexible tactile sensor for intelligent robots and presents the output characteristics of the sensor via signal processing. The sensor was produced via the lamination method using multi-walled carbon nanotubes (a conductive material), an insulator, and Tango-plus (an elastic material). Analog and digital signal processing boards were produced to analyze the output signal of the sensor. The analog signal processing board was made up of an integrator and an amplifier for signal stability, and the digital signal processing board was made up of an IIR filter for noise removal. Finally, the sensor output for the contact force was confirmed through experiments.

  • Flexible tactile sensors can provide valuable feedback to intelligent robots regarding the environment around them. This is especially important when robots such as, service robots share a workspace with humans. This paper presents a contact force measurement algorithm of a flexible tactile sensor. This sensor is manufactured by a direct-writing technique, which is one 3D printing method, using multi-walled carbon nano-tubes. An analog signal processing circuit has been designed and implemented to reduce noise contained in the sensor output. In addition, a digital version of the Butterworth filter was implemented by software running on a microcontroller. Through various experiments, characteristics of the sensor system have been identified. Based on three traits, an algorithm to detect the contact and measure the contact force has been developed. The entire system showed a promising prospect to detect the contact over a large and curved area.

  • Flexible tactile sensors can provide valuable feedback to intelligent robots about the environment. This is especially important when the robots, e.g., service robots, are sharing the workspace with human. This paper presents a flexible tactile sensor that was manufactured by direct writing technique, which is one of 3D printing method with multi-walled carbon nano-tubes. The signal processing system consists of two parts: analog circuits to amplify and filter the sensor output and digital signal processing algorithms to reduce undesired noise. Finally, experimental setup is implemented and evaluated to identify the characteristics of the flexible tactile sensor system. This paper showed that this type of sensors can detect the initiation and termination of contacts with appropriate signal processing.

  • The purpose of this paper is to compare complexity and to assess flexibility of competing transponder architectures for satellite communication services. For performance comparison, we consider three channelization techniques: digital down converter(DDC) based on the use of the cascaded integrator-comb(CIC) filter, tuneable pipeline frequency transform(T-PFT) based on the tree-structure(TS) and variable oversampled complex-modulated filter banks(OCM-FB) based on the polyphase FFT(P-FFT). The comparison begins by presenting a basic architecture of each channelization method and includes analytical expressions of the number of multiplications as a computational complexity perspective. The analytical results show that DDC with CIC filter requires the heavy computational burden and the perfect flexibility. T-PFT based on the TS provides the almost perfect flexibility with the low complexity over DDC with the CIC filter for a large number of sub-channels. OCM-FB based on the P-FFT shows the high flexibility and the best computational complexity performance compared with other approaches.

  • Model pruning methods have attracted huge attention owing to the increasing demand of deploying models on low-resource devices recently. Most existing methods use the weight norm of filters to represent their importance, and discard the ones with small value directly to achieve the pruning target, which ignores the contribution of the small norm filters. This is not only results in filter contribution waste, but also gives comparable performance to training with the random initialized weights [1]. In this paper, we point out that the small norm filters can harm the performance of the pruned model greatly, if they are discarded directly. Therefore, we propose a novel filter contribution recycle (FCR) method for structured model pruning to resolve the fore-mentioned problem. FCR collects and reassembles contribution from the small norm filters to obtain a mixed contribution collector, and then assigns the reassembled contribution to other filters with higher probability to be preserved. To achieve the target FLOPs, FCR also adopts a weight decay strategy for the small norm filters. To explore the effectiveness of our approach, extensive experiments are conducted on ImageNet2012 and CIFAR-10 datasets, and superior results are reported when comparing with other methods under the same or even more FLOPs reduction. In addition, our method is flexible to be combined with other different pruning criterions.

  • Recently to increase the productivity and improve the quality in the industrial process, suppressing the residual vibration in motion control systems becomes the essential problem to solve. One of the methods to suppress the residual vibration is the input shaping technique. It is based on parameters of the system model; however, the parameters are usually difficult to obtain. This paper shows the effects of the residual vibration caused by the variation of the general velocity profile for the system with two vibration modes, and also shows the effects of the input shaping filter based on the parameters of system model. Finally, the simulation results show that the proposed input shaping filter using an artificial immune algorithm is more effective for suppressing residual vibrations than genetic algorithm.

  • The kalman filter which has good estimating capabilities by means of the recursive computation from the previously known of obtained data is usually used for the system estimation in the case of not being directly measurable. The best estimating technique is still open issues on the PWR reactor control system to increase operating contingencies and to predict the safety margins for safer reactor operation. This paper addressed its estimating technique using kalman filter for the more flexible reactor control and showed the reasonable approach for discretization of the continuos-time system for reduction of computation errors.

  • This paper introduces a design and a simulation of a hybrid active power filter (HAPF) for harmonics reduction given an ideal supply source. The synchronous reference frame method has been used here to identify the reference currents. The proposed HAPF uses a new artificial- intelligence technique called Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) for tuning the parameters of a proportional and integral controller called PI-PSO. The PI-PSO controller is used to archive optimality for the DC-link voltage of the HAPF-inverter. The hysteresis non-linear current control method is used in this approach to compare the extracted reference and the actual currents in order to generate the pulse gate required for the HAPF. Results obtained by simulations with Matlab/Simuling show that the proposed approach is very flexible and effective for eliminating harmonic currents generated by the non-linear load with the HAPF based PSO tuning.

  • It is a difficult and important task to measure the reverberation time of an acoustic room with a short reverberation time. This paper presents a new technique to measure the reverberation time of an acoustic room with low value of BT60. The digital signal processing technique used to do this is the wavelet filter which is very flexible to design the 1/n octave band filter and has no delay problem compared with the conventional IIR digital filter. This method is successfully applied to the measurement of the reverberation time at low frequency band of famous concert halls in Korea.
