타올에 흡착된 아마인유와 올리브유의 자연발화에 대한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Spontaneous Ignition of Flaxseed Oil and Olive Oil Adsorbed on Towels)

  • 연구목적: 타올에 흡착된 기름에 의하여 점화원이 없는 상태에서 화재가 발생되는 자연발화 실험을 하기 위하여 건성유인 아마인유와 불건성유인 올리브유를 사용하여 섬유에 흡착되었을 때 자연발화가 발생되는 현상을 실험을 통하여 화재가 발생되는 현상을 확인하였다. 연구방법: 시료용기를 실험장치에 넣은 후 시료의 중심온도 변화를 관찰하여 중심온도가 설정온도 보다 상승하고 화재가 발생하였을 때를 「발화」로 판정하여, 시료의 중심온도 최대치를 확인한 후 실험을 중지하였으며, 시료의 중심온도가 설정온도와 유사하게 유지되었을 경우 「비발화」로 판정하고 실험을 중지하였다. 연구결과: 아마인유가 흡착된 타올은 5장, 10장, 15장에서 모두 시료용기 내의 온도가 급상승되고 연소가 발생되었으나, 불건성유인 올리브유는 탄소가 단일결합으로 되어 있어 건조가 어렵고 산소와의 결합이 어렵기 때문에 발화가 되지 않았다. 결론:건성유인 아마인유가 흡착된 타올의 량이 많을수록 설정온도에 도달되는 시간이 길어지는 현상으로 발화가 발생되는 것을 확인하였다.

Effects of Gibberellin Biosynthetic Inhibitors on Oil, Secoisolaresonolodiglucoside, Seed Yield and Endogenous Gibberellin Content in Flax

  • Flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) has been used for the edible oil in Korea. The evaluate the effect of plant growth retardants on flaxseed yield, oil content, and gibberellin level, chloromequat chloride (CMC), paclobutrazol (PBZ), and prohexadione-Ca (PHC) were used as plant growth retardants in this study. These plant growth retardants were foliar-sprayed to flax plant at 55 days after seeding. The concentrations of each plant growth retardant were as followed: CMC 250, 500, 1000 ppm, PBZ 40, 80, 160 ppm and PHC 500, 1000, 2000 ppm. PHC treatment to forming bolls was more stimulated than CMC and PBZ. The highest ripened seed rate was observed in PHC treatment at 2000ppm. The high see yields were obtained in PHC treatment following PBZ and CMC, in turn. Seed yield that significantly increased in PBZ and PHC was found to be increased 12.4 ~ 23.9% as compared to the control. The PHC showed higher flaxseed production and oil yield than that of CMC and PBZ. The results obtained in the present study suggest that higher concentration of plant growth retardant (PHC) increased flaxseed yield and oil content. The optimal concentration of PHC treatment was observed in 2000 ppm. It concludes that the foliar application of PHC 2000 ppm may be useful for the increasing oil and higher seed production in flax plants.

Soybean Oil 및 Flaxseed Oil 첨가 배양시 탄수화물 첨가수준에 의한 반추미생물의 Bio-hydrogenation과 CLA 생성에 미치는 효과 (Effect of the Level of Carbohydrates on Bio-hydrogenation and CLA Production by Rumen Bacteria When Incubated with Soybean Oil or Flaxseed Oil In vitro)

  • 본 실험은 대두유 또는 아마유를 in vitro 방법으로 배양 할 때, 탄수화물원의 첨가수준이 반추위 박테리아에 의한 bio-hydrogenation과 CLA 생성에 미치는 효과를 조사하였다. 4수준(0%, 0.3%, 0.6% 그리고 0.9%, w/v)의 혼합된 탄수화물원(glucose, cellobiose, soluble starch, 1:1:1, w/w/w)과 두 종류의 oil을 cellulose powder에 흡착시킨 형태로 각각 60mg씩 인공타액(120ml)과 반추위액(30ml)이 혼합된 배양액(150ml)에 넣은 다음 39℃에서 12시간동안 혐기적으로 배양하였다. 배양액의 pH와 암모니아 농도는 두 종류 oil을 첨가한 배양액 모두에서 탄수화물원의 첨가 수준이 높을수록 pH와 암모니아 농도가 낮았다(P<0.05). 탄수화물원의 첨가 수준이 증가할수록 total VFA 생성량 역시 증가되었으나(P<0.01) 첨가한 oil 간의 차이는 없었다. 배양시간이 경과됨에 따라 탄수화물원의 첨가수준이 높을수록 propionate의 조성비율이 증가된 반면(P<0.001) acetate와 butyrate의 조성비율은 감소되었다. 배양 후 3시간이 경과하였을 때 배양액 내 oleic acid의 조성비율은 대두유에 비하여 아마유를 첨가한 배양액에서 낮았으나(P<0.001) linoleic acid의 비율은 높았다(P<0.001). 이와는 달리 탄수화물원의 수준이 증가될수록 stearic acid(P<0.05), CLA(P<0.01) 및 cis-9, trans-11 CLA(P<0.001)의 조성비율은 감소되었으나, linoleic acid의 조성 비율은 증가되었다(P<0.05). Linolenic acid의 조성비율에 있어서는 첨가된 oil의 종류와 첨가된 탄수화물원의 수준간의 상호작용이 있는 것으로 나타났는데(P<0.001), 12시간의 배양종료 후 대두유 첨가구에 비해 아마유 첨가구에서 stearic acid(P<0.01), oleic acid(P<0.001), 그리고 trans-11C18:1(P<0.01)의 조성비율이 감소된 반면, linoleic acid(P<0.001)와 linolenic acid(P<0.01)의 조성비율은 증가되었다. 탄수화물원의 첨가수준이 증가될수록 stearic acid와 총 CLA의 조성비는 감소되었으나(P<0.01), trans-11-C18:1(P<0.05)와 linoleic acid(P<0.01)의 조성비율은 증가되었다. 배양 12시간 후 배양액 내의 oleic acid (P<0.05), linoleic acid(P<0.05) 및 linolenic acid(P<0.01)의 조성비율에 있어서는 첨가한 oil의 종류와 첨가한 탄수화물원의 수준간의 상호작용이 있었는데, 탄수화물원의 첨가수준이 감소됨에 따라 cis-9, trans-11 CLA와 trans-10, cis-12 CLA의 조성비 역시 감소되는 경향이었으나 첨가한 oil의 종류에 대한 영향은 거의 받지 않았다. 본 실험의 결과를 종합해 볼 때, 탄수화물의 첨가수준과 oil의 첨가는 반추미생물의 bio-hydrogenation 작용 및 CLA 생성에 영향할 수 있는 것으로 여겨진다.

Influence of Dietary Conjugated Linoleic Acid and Its Combination with Flaxseed Oil or Fish Oil on Saturated Fatty Acid and n-3 to n-6 Fatty Acid Ratio in Broiler Chicken Meat

  • This study examined the effect of CLA, flaxseed oil and fish oil and their combination forms on crude fat of liver and fatty acid profiles of liver, breast and thigh meat in broiler chicks. A total of 72, 1-day-old Cobb broilers were assigned to 6 groups, and fed an experimental diet supplemented with 5 different fat sources; conjugated linoleic acid (2% CLA), flaxseed oil (2% FXO), fish oil (2% FHO), CLA and flaxseed oil combination (1:1; 2% CXO), and CLA and fish oil combination (1:1; 2% CHO). Eight birds per treatment were processed, and liver, breast and thigh samples were investigated at 21 d of age. As a result of this study, most fatty acids of liver, breast and thigh meat were influenced by fat sources supplemented in the diet (p<0.05). CLA addition resulted in an increase of crude fat and saturated fatty acid (SFA) content but a concomitant decrease in n-3 to n-6 fatty acid ratio was observed in liver (p<0.05). Moreover, the same trends of SFA and n-3 to n-6 fatty acid ratio were also observed in breast and thigh meats of birds fed CLA alone. In the CXO-fed group or CHO-fed group, n-3 and n-3 to n-6 fatty acid ratio in both breast and thigh meat increased compared with CLA group, while SFA content decreased (p<0.05). FHO fed-groups had the lowest proportion of n-6 fatty acid in both breast and thigh meats compared to other fat source treatments (p<0.05). In conclusion, the increased levels of crude fat and SFA in liver and meats obtained by feeding CLA could be reduced by its combination with FXO or FHO. In addition, the combination of CLA and FXO or FHO fed to broiler chicks could increase the n-3 to n-6 fatty acid ratio of their meat along with the deposition of CLA.

Preparation of Bioactive Kefir with Added Flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) Extract

  • Flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) is an important food, oil, and fiber crop of the family Linaceae. Although flaxseed has been consumed as a food ingredient for several centuries, its nutritional benefits have not yet been completely established. Flaxseed is a good source of lignans, nonstarch polysaccharides, and high-quality proteins. Hence, in this study, we aimed to prepare a bioactive kefir containing flaxseed and to examine the physicochemical characteristics of kefir containing different concentrations of flaxseed. We investigated the pH, and sensory evaluation of bioactive Kefir containing different concentrations of flaxseed. We investigated the pH, total anthocyanins (TAs), and sensory evaluation of bioactive Kefir containing different concentrations of flaxseed. The pH of this bioactive kefir decreased, whereas the TA content increased with increasing incubation time; however, these parameters were not affected by the amount of added flaxseed. As the addition rate of flaxseed increased, the scores for overall acceptability, texture, color, flavor, and taste in sensory evaluations were generally the same as or lower than the control. There were no significant differences in overall acceptability, texture, color, flavor, and taste between the control and treated groups. Therefore, further studies are needed to develop methods for production of health-improving kefir as a dietary supplement based on the functional properties of flaxseed.

Effects of flaxseed oil supplementation on lactating sows and their offspring

  • This study was conducted on sows to evaluate the effect of flaxseed oil on the sows and their offspring's performance. Forty-eight (48) sows (Landrace × Yorkshire) and their offspring were assigned randomly to each treatment (Control and Control + flaxseed oil 0.5% [FX]). Body weight (BW), average daily feed intake (ADFI) and nutrient digestibility of the sows were estimated. Sow backfat thickness, days-to-estrus, and chest circumference were measured by different methods. In piglets, survival rate, the initial weight, weaning weight, and average daily gain (ADG) were calculated. Fecal scores of both the sows and piglets were recorded. Inclusion of FX did not influence (p > 0.05) the litter size, days-to-estrus, sow BW, ADFI and digestibility of nutrient throughout the experiment. Reduction in (p < 0.05) BW loss was observed with the FX supplementation in sows. Only the backfat thickness during the weaning period showed an increase (p < 0.05) by FX supplementation. Chest circumference was decreased (p < 0.05) in the FX group compared to the control. Sows fed the FX diet had a reduced (p < 0.05) fecal score only at weaning. Piglets' fecal score showed no significant differences for FX supplementation. However, the inclusion of FX brought about a higher (p < 0.05) birth weight, weaning weight, and average daily gain (ADG). In conclusion, our study suggests that FX has positive supplementary effects on a sow's body condition and its offspring's performance as a source of n-3 fatty acid.

Stimulating the Growth of Kefir-isolated Lactic Acid Bacteria using Addition of Crude Flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) Extract

  • Linum usitatissimum L. (flaxseed) is emerging as an important functional food ingredient because of its rich contents, namely, ${\alpha}$-linolenic acid (ALA, omega-3 fatty acid), lignans, and fiber, which are potentially beneficial for human health. Furthermore, flax or flaxseed oil has also been incorporated as a functional food ingredient into various foods such as milk, dairy products, and meat products. Flaxseed is known to possess antimicrobial activity in vitro and in vivo, but its growth-stimulating effect on lactic acid bacteria is not clear. Hence, the objective of this study was to determine whether crude flaxseed extract stimulated the growth kefir-isolated lactic acid bacteria in vitro. The result of this study showed that Lactobacillus kefiranofaciens DN1, Lactobacillus brevis KCTC3102, Lactobacillus bulgaricus KCTC3635, and Lactobacillus plantarum KCTC3105 treated with $100{\mu}L$ of crude flaxseed extract showed significantly higher growth than the control treated with $100{\mu}L$ of water (p<0.05). Based on the results of this study, crude flaxseed extract could be used as a growth stimulator for lactic acid bacteria in various food applications, including production of milk and dairy products.

아마인유와 참기름을 이용하여 제조한 ω-3와 ω-6 지방산이 균형 잡힌 다가불포화지방산 혼합유의 특성 (Characteristics of ω-3 and ω-6 Balanced Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid Oil Mixture Using Flaxseed Oil and Sesame Oil)

  • 식품의 기호성과 산화안정성 및 영양학적 특징을 높이기 위해 참기름과 아마인유를 혼합하여 ${\omega}$-3와 ${\omega}$-6 지방산이 균형을 이루고 안정성이 우수한 다가불포화지방산을 갖는 혼합유를 제조하여 산화 및 관능특성을 조사하였다. ${\omega}$-3와 ${\omega}$-6 지방산이 균형 잡힌 안정성이 우수한 다가불포화지방산을 갖는 혼합유의 지방산 분석 결과 아마인유 20%와 참기름 80%를 혼합하여 제조한 혼합유(F20S80)의 ${\omega}$-3와 ${\omega}$-6의 조성 비율은 각각 8.9%와 39.7%로 약 1:5의 비율을 나타내었으며, 아마인유 10%와 참기름 90%를 혼합하여 제조한 혼합유(F10S90)의 ${\omega}$-3와 ${\omega}$-6의 조성 비율은 각각 4.4%와 42.1%로 약 1:10의 비율을 나타내었다. 이들의 비율은 ${\omega}$-3와 ${\omega}$-6에 대한 영양학적 권장 비율이 1:4~10 범위에 포함되므로 건강에 유리한 혼합유임을 알 수 있었다. 혼합유의 안정성을 평가하기 위해 $20^{\circ}C$ 상온, 상대습도 70%와 $45^{\circ}C$ 가온, 70% 상대습도 저장조건에서 16주간 저장하면서 아마 인유(F100), F20S80, F10S90 및 참기름(S100)의 산가와 관능특성을 분석한 결과, F10S90 혼합유는 $20^{\circ}C$ 상온, 70% 상대습도 저장조건과 $45^{\circ}C$ 가온, 70% 상대습도 저장조건에서 16주간 저장하였을 때에 두 조건에서 모두 S100과 통계적으로 유의차가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 결론적으로 F10S90 혼합유는 ${\omega}$-3와 ${\omega}$-6 비율이 1:10으로 건강에 유리한 유지이며, 참기름을 선호하는 우리나라에서는 기호성 및 저장성이 우수한 기능성 혼합유로 사용하여도 좋을 것이다.

Effect of supplementation of feed with Flaxseed (Linumusitatisimum) oil on libido and semen quality of Nilli-Ravi buffalo bulls

  • Background: The current study was designed to investigate the effect of supplementation of Flaxseed (Linumusitatisimum) oil on libido and semen quality of Nilli-Ravi buffalo bulls. Methods: In this study, 12 adult healthy bulls kept at the Semen Production Unit, Qadirabad district Sahiwal, were used. These bulls were divided into three equal groups, A, B and C. Group A was kept as control, while in groups B and C supplementation of feed was provided by using flaxseed oil @125 ml/day and 250 ml/day,respectively for 12 weeks. Two ejaculates per animal were collected at 0 day then 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th week of treatment. In this way a total 216 samples were taken, and each semen sample was evaluated for color, volume, mass activity, percent motility, sperm cell concentration per ml, percentage of live sperm, and plasma membrane integrity. Libido of bulls was also evaluated before every collection. Results: Analysis of data revealed that these parameters were significantly (P < 0.01) increased in flax oil treated animals as compared to control. Conclusion: It was concluded from the present study that flax seed oil has beneficial effects on reproductive health of buffalo bull.

급성 위염 동물 모델에서 감국(甘菊) 추출물과 아마인유(亞麻仁油) 혼합물의 위 점막 보호 효과 (Protective Effects of Chrysanthemi Indici Flos Extract and Flaxseed Oil Mixture on HCl/ethanol-induced Acute Gastric Lesion Mice)

  • Objectives : The objective of this study was to investigate the protective effect of Flaxseed oil and Chrysanthemi Indici Flos 50% ethanol extract in an HCl/ethanol induced acute gastritis model. Methods : ICR mice were divided into 6 groups; normal mice (Nor), gastritic mice with distilled water (Veh), gastritic mice with 10 mg/kg sucralfate (SC), gastritic mice with 16 g/㎏ Flaxseed oil (FO), gastritic mice with FO + 50 mg/kg Chrysanthemi Indici Flos (FCL), and gastritic mice with FO + 100 mg/kg Chrysanthemi Indici Flos (FCH). Then, mice were orally administered with 150 mM HCl/60% ethanol and caused acute gastritis. After 1 hr, mice were sacrificed, and blood and stomach tissue were collected. Results : Administration of FCL and FCH to mice prior to the induction of gastritis was found to reduce gastric injury. reactive oxygen species (ROS) and peroxy nitrite ($ONOO^-$) levels of stomach tissues were significantly decreased in FO, FCL, and FCH compared to Veh group. As results of stomach protein analyses, FCL and FCH effectively reduce inflammatory-related factors such as inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and interleukin 1 beta ($IL-1{\beta}$) in gastric lesion mice. In addition, nuclear factor kappa B p65 ($NF-{\kappa}B$ p65) and phosphorylation inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa $B{\alpha}(p-I{\kappa}B{\alpha})$ were down-regulated in FCL and FCH administrated gastric lesion mice. Conclusions : These results suggest that FCL and FCH has an inhibitory effect against gastric injury. Therefore, FCL and FCH has the potential to be used as a natural therapeutic drug.
